hey guys,
Well I am relatively new to the forum and seems like the good times have ended... So I like many of u take refuge in all the wonderful, happy and innovative fanfics that many of u write.... They are like a breath of fresh air.....
I am not much of a writer but decided to give writing one a shot since i am really put off by the way the how show seems to be going.... So trying something to get my mind of it....
All comments (boquets and brickbats) are welcome..... Do let me know if it is worth persuing continuing this fanfic....
The story is a bit ahead of the show and starts with the return of Jai, Pia and Adi from Dubai... I ll fill in the missing pieces in flashbacks and introduce some characters as the ff progresses ( if it progresses).....
So here goes nothing...........

Prologue:
Jai, Adi and Pia walked out of the airport. They had just returned from their trip to Dubai. Jai dressed to kill in his usual black suit, hair looking like they never moved and his expression and difficult to read. Pia had worn a stripped shirt and dark brown knee length brown skirt, her hair were open and wore light make up. While Adi was dressed more casually in brown formals and a plain white shirt, looking fresh as ever back from a vacation They were looking like an unlikely trio. Actually more like a spectrum of clothing styles ranging from Formal to Casual more like an ad of a clothing store and also wearing expressions ranging from grave to casual with Pia managing to have an in between expression, if one existed.
When they reached the entrance Jai walked to one of the cars waiting at the entrance motioning Pia and Adi to go in another one. He had decided to drop by at the office for a while. He needed some time alone to process all that had happened in the past few days before their trip and during their trip. He knew he wouldn't get any time for himself if he went home and so told Adi that he had some imp business to attend to and so had to be at the office for a while. Thankfully Adi did not probe any deeper probably sensing Jai's need to retreat to himself for a while and agreed, not before asking him to return home as soon as possible. Pia made an effort to say something but by the time she could Jai had already left and there was a trail to dust left for her to question. So then Adi and Pia left for home while Jai went to the office.
He looked out of the window at the maddening traffic of this fast city zipping by and the events of the past few days flashed before his eyes.
His life had done a complete turn around since Bani and her sisters had come into his house. His life had gone from a boring Black and White movie to a digital Dolby surround sound 70mm Color movie with a lot of special effects. The comparison forced his lips to curl into an involuntary smile. Maybe he was spending too much time with Dadi and the years spent together were finally making their mark, he thought, shaking his head in amusement.
He went through the events that had occurred: How Pushkar had come clean to him after he had hurled accusations at Bani about her relationship with him? How shocked he had been to find out that Bani had indeed done all of this just for him? How he couldn't quite understand her resilience? How he had planned to get Bani to confess her real intensions to him? How he went closer to Pia in the hope of making Bani jealous and than finally confess all to him. After all he knew how she felt about him being with other women. And how miserably the plan had back fired? How he hadn't seen Bani since?
It had been 10 days 4 hours and a couple of mins since he had last set his eyes on his wife, who he was now hoping to see soon. She and Tarun had left for London after "the incident" and were due to return later in the day he knew. He was glad that Tarun had convinced Bani to assist him in handling some of his businesses as he was busy with his practice and so unable to take care of all of it.
His cell phone rang finally shaking him out of his thoughts as it violently vibrated in his hands. It was Adi he called to let him know that Tarun and Bani had gotten their tickets cancelled and would instead be returning a few days later. Jai groaned at the news. His hopes of seeing Bani and perhaps getting things back on tracks came crashing down And mentally made a note to call Tarun up when he reached the office. They hadn't spoken since he had left with Bani for London.
why did they have to stay back Jai wondered…………..
PART 1.
Bani sat in the study sipping herbal teal, flipping through some of the files that she had brought from the office and her fingers fidgeting with a strand of hair on the side . Anyone who gave her even a look would know that she was lost somewhere in a land far far away. She couldn't get her mind off what she saw and if that wasn't hard enough she heard something totally contrasting. Both the events related yet totally contrasting in nature. She had seen that Jai had started taking a lot of interest in Pia since their trip to Dubai. They seemed to be working together all the time and they seemed to be getting too comfortable for her comfort.
Her mind did a recap of all the events that had occurred. How she and Tarun had come along with Jai, Adi and Pia to Dubai for business. How much Jai had avoided her and how he was extra sweet to Pia. How she had finally decided to confront him about his relationship with Pia and how she left after what she saw in his room that night. How she than overheard Jai talking to Adi. How could Jai still play games with her despite knowing all the truth……..
She than carefully remembered all the events that had taken place.
Jai had insisted that Tarun prepone his official visit to Dubai so that all of them can be there together despite knowing that she was to join Tarun for the trip. She was flustered when Tarun told her the reason for preponing the visit. He had been frank and truthful with her since finding out the true reason of Bani's decision to leave Jai. She insisted that he find out why Jai was so insistent it was unlike Jai to do something like that without some ulterior motive.
Maybe he has a new unheard of set of accusations to hurl at me, she thought ruefully. Maybe now he thinks I am having an affair with Tarun, he is the only one he hasn't accused me of going around with as yet. Than she chided herself for thinking like that about that man she loved so much. After all he was thinking what she wanted him to think; she had no right to say anything in that matter.
Tarun tried hard to find out if there was any reason for Jai to insist on them making the trip together. He didn't want either his best friend Jai or his new found good friend Bani to go through any unnecessary trouble. He knew how difficult it was for them to keep up with this faade they had built up, esp. Bani. He had in the past couple of weeks come to respect and admire her for everything she was doing for Jai, though he didn't agree entirely with the means. But Tarun concluded that Jai genuinely just wanted to spend sometime with him and Adi, like in the old days and so was insistent.
He convinced Bani and all of them made the trip together. She was still very apprehensive but agreed thinking it was all probably for a greater good. She had made sure that she and Tarun would leave later and meet Jai, Pia and Adi at Dubai so that atleast they didn't have to travel together.
Things seemed to go on smoothly for about five days without any major confrontations between Jai and Bani. But on the sixth day, Bani had had absolutely enough and she refused to be party to the flirting that Jai and Pia had going between them. She had used every ounce of her self control but had reached a point where even when she closed her eyes she could do nothing but picture them together. The thought always brought a lump to her throat. She found it hard to believe that the love of her life had found solace in the arms of her sister.
She had seen them together at breakfast flirting like there was no tomorrow and Bani had walked off from there in a fit of rage. She had decided to talk to Jai and find out what the hell he was doing behaving like that when he had a kid on the way. Later on in the day when her mind had played enough havoc with her emotions she had mustered up every ounce of courage in her and marched up to his room. A confrontation very much on the cards.
She walked reached his room, shut her eyes took a deep breath and knocked on the door to find it open.
She pushed the door open and was shocked out of her wits at what she saw. It was as if someone had squeezed the life out of her. She ran out of words, emotions and expressions at what she saw. She just chocked with the sudden rush of emotions and ran out of the room.
PART 2
Bani ran out of the room tears streaming through her face. She had never been so heart broken. Adi and Tarun saw her run past them. She looked haggard and completely broken. Both of them were suddenly overcome by concern and fear. Both gave a look in the direction from which Bani had come running and instantly knew it had something to do with Jai. They turned to each other and decided to go after Bani and find out if Bani was alright. Jai would have to be dealt with a later. Right now Bani was more imp.
They dashed after Bani calling out to her but she didn't seem to listen and just kept running. Most people in the lobby looked around to see if they could find a camera crew around cause the scene looked like it was right out of a movie or maybe another one of those over dragged serials.
She ran into her room and shut the door. She didn't want to see anyone and no explanation could justify what she just saw.
Adi and Tarun reached her door. They were calling out to her but all they could hear was silence. They were dead scared. They yelled their throats out asking Bani to open the door and talk to them but it seemed to have no effect. Well at least on Bani. Everyone else did open their doors in frustration thinking they were ready to be renamed Bani if it would get all the yelling to stop.
Bani on the other hand was oblivious to her surroundings. Her heart was racing and threatening to cave in any moment. She shut her eyes and her mind did a rewind of what she had just seen. She had opened the door and right in front of her eyes she had seen Jai looking out of the window and Pia with an arm on his shoulder slightly leaning on him. And then she heard those dreaded words he had said, "I shouldn't have married Bani when I was in love with you. It ruined everything."
The words kept playing in her mind and finally her feelings of hurt and remorse were replaced by anger. In a rare fit of rage she threw everything she could set her eyes on onto the floor. The beautiful flower vases, the pictures on the tables, the magazines and she even shattered the glasses in the room. She looked at the shattered pieces of glass thinking if her heart had broken into more pieces or the shattered glass.
Adi and Tarun now tired of knocking at Bani's door decided to give her some time alone. And were about to turn to leave when they heard the noise of the shattered glass coming from the room. Their minds simultaneously went through the worst case scenarios. And the noise from the room was replaced with an eerie silence, that was perhaps more scary than the noise they had heard. And their expressions changed from worry to horror. Now they had to get Bani to open the door.
Tarun was the first to be able to think straight. He called the reception and requested them to open the room using the spare key. The staff obliged and when they opened the door nothing had prepared them for what they saw next.
PART 3
Tarun walked passed the study and saw Bani sitting there gazing at a file. She was playing with her hair he noted, must be deep in thought, he figured. Adi smile lit up his face as he admired her countenance. How can Jai be such a fool and give up on a woman like Bani he wondered. He was sure she was thinking about what had happened in the hotel the day she saw Jai and Pia together. She had that faraway look in her eyes. A look he had come to associate with Jai.
Tarun stood there gazing at Bani and also thinking about the same. He remembered how scared he was when they opened the door of Bani's room. He felt like someone had ripped his heart out and had signed it up for a session of catching practice with amateur cricketers, threatening to be dropped down any moment. He gasped for air, his face grew pale.
All the things in the room were scattered. There were things lying all around the room- pillows, the bed sheet, the paintings, the papers, everything it seemed had been thrown onto the ground. Pieces of glass shattered all around the room. But the one thing his eyes were looking for was nowhere to be seen. He looked at Adi, he too was looking totally shocked. They gave each other an anxious glance.
Then suddenly something caught his eye. He wished he hadn't seen it. He wished it was Bani instead of what he saw. He rubbed his eyes and gave it a hard look. Thinking maybe that might get it to disappear. He looked at Adi and with his eyes motioned in the direction of the drops of blood he saw.
This made Tarun's eyes search of Bani even more desperately. But she was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly he heard someone grasp for air and realized it was coming from the washroom.
He and Adi rushed to the washroom. Only to see Bani in a very bad shape and with blood flowing profusely from her hand. He and Adi got very worried and rushed to Bani's aid. He tightly held on to Bani's hand. He saw that she had a deep cut on the palm of her hand that was now beginning to bleed profusely. He looked at her questioningly but saw that she herself didn't comprehend all that was happening. Then as they were about to go out she fainted in his arms. Tarun and Adi panicked further not having any clue as to what was happening. There was then a sudden flurry of action. Adi called for the car and they rushed her to the nearest hospital.
The doctor came out and much to his and Adi's relief informed them that she was fine. It was a deep cut but they had stitched it up and she was just weak as she had lost a lot of blood. But he warned Adi and Tarun that Bani was in a very fragile state of mind and it was doing her health as well as the baby's a lot of damage. He asked them to make sure she wasn't stressed out as that could lead to unnecessary complications. Right now ahe was fine but she needed a lot of care and attention. He and Adi finally let out a sigh of relief. Adi decided to go back to the hotel and talk to Jai about what happened, while he decided to stay back at the hospital with Bani.
PART 4
But Adi could not bring himself to leave Bani in the hospital in this condition. She was like a daughter to him. But he also wanted to know what was it that had happened between Jai and Bani that had made Bani react in such an uncharacteristic way. SO against his better judgment he called up Jai and told him that Bani was in the hospital. Adi heard the concern and hurt in Jai's voice and got even more confused. Tarun stayed with Bani not wanting to leave her side till she got better. His mind also wondered as what had happened. There seemed to be so many questions but no answers. He was very angry with Jai for all the pain he was putting Bani through.
Jai rushed to the hospital as soon as he placed the phone. He was cursing himself for doing this to Bani that to when he knew that she was going through a very delicate period in her pregnancy. HE reminded himself of the times when he had hurled accusations at her about not taking care of 'their' child and now he was stressing her out. But he had no choice he had tried everything to get Bani to tell him the truth but she had bery obstinately refused to oblige him. He knew the truth but he wanted her to tell him the whole truth.
He had been flirting with Pia knowing very well that it was bound to get her jealous enough to blurt the truth out to him. After all jealousy always seemed to take their relationship one step forward. He failed to understand why Bani was in the hospital, Adi had just told him she was in the hospital and that he should get there as soon as possible. He didn't know what was happening and he hated himself for that. He was scared and hoped that Bani and the baby were fine.
He finally reached the hospital and was frantically searching for Adi. His eyes than saw Adi looking very furious and worried pacing up and down the corridor. He had never seen Adi look angry before. As soon as Adi saw Jai, he walked up to him very purposefully, took him by his arm and almost dragged him to Bani's room without saying a word. He pointed to Bani and
Then said, "Why, Jai, why are you doing this to her? Why can't you just let her be? Why do you have to do this to her every now and then? How can you be so heartless and do his to her? How can you see her like this after all she has done for u and our family? Jai …… Jai ………. Jai ….. Are you even listening to me?"
But Jai wasn't listening to a thing. He just stood there taking everything in. He stood there rooted to his place staring at Bani. She looked so pale and fragile. He felt a sudden urge to take her in his arms and kiss all her pain away. He walked towards her but Tarun got up from where he was seated beside Bani and got in his way.
Tarun said, "Don't even think of going anywhere near her. Haven't u done enough damage. What do u want to do Jai, kill her? For God's sake if u can't give her any happiness the least u can do is not give her any pain. If u don't respect her as ur wife at least give her some respect as the mother of your child. I have never been more disappointed in u Jai. I always thought u could never be wrong. But today I know I was wrong to think that. You are in the wrong Jai Walia you are wrong."
Saying this Tarun stormed out of the room. Adi walked up to Jai.
Adi- Jai what did you say to her that made her react in this way. Answer me Jai.
Jai – Adi I didn't know she would react this way. I was talking to Pia when I looked at the mirror and saw Bani standing at the door. So I told Pia that marrying Bani was the biggest mistake of my life cause it was a marriage without love. I expected Bani to confront me then and there and come clean about the whole divorce fiasco. But she just ran out of there with tears in her eyes. I…… I ………. I didn't know that ……. What……. What happened?........ Why is her hand bandaged?......... Is she alright?...... Is the baby fine?....... Will someone tell me what happened?.......
Adi- Jai, what are you talking about? I don't understand u.
Jai told Adi everything about how Pushkar had told him everything and how he was using Pia to make Bani confess the truth to him. Adi was struck with the enormity of whatever Jai had just told him. He just stared blankly and finally finding his voice after everything had sunk in said, "Why didn't you tell me all this sooner. SO much heartache could have been prevented. Jai we can deal with Jigs and Ranveer later but we could have put Bani out of her agony. Would you have been able to forgive yourself if something had happened to Bani or your baby? What would you have told Bani if she had lost the baby? What were you even thinking Jai?"
Sayin tis he walked out with Jai tagging along behind him.
As soon as the room to the door closed. Bani opened her eyes. Her face shocked.
PART 5
Introducing a new character.
Natasha- Tarun's sister. She is a 23 year old. Loves Tarun, Jai and Adi alike. She thinks of Adi and Jai as her brothers too. She is very close to Jai and he is also extremely close to her and treats her like a princess, giving into her every request.
Bani had been in the hospital for a day with Tarun and Adi to take care of her. But Bani was quieter than her usual self making both Adi and Tarun a little anxious. But she had made it loud and clear that she didn't want to see either Jai or Pia under any circumstances. Her mind kept wandering to the conversation she had heard between Jai and Adi. She was very angry with Jai for letting her live with all the pain despite knowing the truth and having handled all the legalities of making the property transfer invalid. He had the nerve to play games with her despite knowing her state of mind she fumed.
She thought he always played games with her knowing that she wouldn't retaliate and that she would always find it in her heart to forgive him.
"Not this time." she thought. "This time I'll show you how games are played Mr. Walia. This time I will get even with you so that we can start on an even plate when things get back to normal."
Jai on the other hand was feeling extremely guilty after speaking to Adi and Tarun about what ever he was doing. Both of them had been very angry and had thoroughly disapproved of his methods to get Bani to confess.
He had tried to go and see Bani the other day, but Adi asked him not to come to the hospital as Bani had categorically said that she didn't want to see them and they didn't want Bani to get further stressed out with things.
He had to see Bani and explain things to her.
Just as he was thinking about what he would say to Bani, his phone vibrated violently on the table breaking his thoughts. He saw Tarun's number flashing on the screen, quickly picking it up hoping everything was fine with Bani.
Tarun – Jai, I have some news for you.
Jai – What is it Tarun? Is Bani alright?
Tarun – Yes, she is fine. She'll be discharged this evening. I need to fly down to London tonight. Natasha is not keeping well these days and I just spoke to her. So I am thinking of paying her a visit. You guys fly back to India as per our plan. I ll join u guys in Mumbai that same night.
Jai – Does Bani know about this? If you leave who'll take care of Bani. She wont even let me see her. I need you to be around when I talk to her.
Tarun – Actually that's what I needed to talk to you about. Bani is insisting on coming with me. She doesn't want to be here. Sorry man. I wanted to ask you if it's ok with you if I took her along. She could use the change and maybe she'll feel better after spending some time with Natasha. You know Natasha's jolly nature rubs off on everyone she meets. Maybe that will cheer her up. You can talk to Bani when we get back to Mumbai. You might also need massi's help with this.
Jai – But can Bani travel? Is she well enough for the journey? Who'll take care of her there?
Tarun – Cool down. She can travel and she is fine. Jai I think she could use the change. Give her some time man. Let everything sink in. So is it okay if she comes along?
Jai – Ya I guess so. Just make sure you fill me in on how she is doing. And please take good care of her. If there is anything I can do just let me know.
Tarun – hey…. No message for Natasha…. Wait till I tell her this she'll kill u…
Jai – give her a hug and a big hi from me. Tell her I miss her and I d love it if ahe dropped by for a few days.
Tarun – I will. You take care. And don't worry about Bani.
Jai – Ya I'll try. Bye. And have a nice trip.
End of Flash Back. Story moves back to when Jai and everyone but Bani and Tarun have returned to Mumbai.
PART 6
Jai was woken from his reverie as his car came to a screeching halt. He looked out only to find that he had reached his office. He got out of the car and ignoring all the 'Good Morning" s, he walked straight to his cabin and slammed the door behind him. He went straight to his desk, seated himself on the chair and reached out for the drawer on the left. Reached inside and pulled out a photo of Bani. He had kept the photo his drawer for a while now and pulled it out from time to time to get a glimpse of his beautiful wife. He felt a sudden urge to feel her and his fingers instinctively moved to her lips and he sighed. O how he missed her. He suddenly spoke out loud, "I am sorry Bani. Please give me a chance so we can make up. I am sorry about playing games but I ll let u know the truth when u are ready for it."
He buzzed his secretary and asked her to hold all calls. "Don't give me any calls. Even if God comes down and decides to call me tell him to call me later." He said. He tried Tarun's cell but his cell was switched off. "Why did Tarun switch his cell off ? I hope Bani is fine", he thought. In a desperate attempt to find out the cause for their delay, he tried calling Bani's cell to find out what the matter was, but she rejected the call. He tried calling a couple of more times. He got tired of calling but she didn't tire rejecting the calls. "She must really be very mad", he thought. Then he tried calling Adi to find out if he had found out anything.
Jai – Adi, Have you guys reached home? I just called to let you know that I have reached the office.
Adi – Ya we have reached. Come on Jai, out with it. You can't have called to let me know you've reached. So what did you call for?
Jai – Actually I called to find out if Tarun had spoken to you. Do you know why they cancelled their tickets and when are they planning to return now?
Adi – Yes Jai, Tarun had called. He told me some work relating to one of his previous cases there had come up. He was to wind it up today. He had asked Bani to return but she wasn't too keen to return without him. So they have booked tickets for tomorrow. Tarun also said that Natasha might come to Mumbai in a while. She has a vacation coming up and wants to spend time with her Jai bhaiya.
Jai – That should be a nice change. I haven't seen Natasha in so long.
Adi – Tarun wanted to talk to you about something. And No its not about Bani. SO stop racking your brains over it getting sick worried. I spoke to her. She sounded weak but much better than I last spoke to her. London seems to be doing wonders for her. You should go there for your honeymoon once you guys patch up.
Jai – Let's at least convince her to talk to me first. I promise I ll let you plan the honeymoon. I ll see you in the evening. Bye.
Adi – Bye Jai and don't make it too late.
Jai stayed in the office till late in the evening wanting to avoid seeing his family and esp. Pia. He just sat at his desk thinking about how wonderful life will be when thongs with Bani are sorted out.
He returned home and met Massi to assure her that he was fine and than retired to his room waiting for tomorrow. The day Bani would at least be in the same town as him.
The day came on later tan Jai had expected he never knew one day could be so long. He got up early and tried calling Tarun hoping to reach him so that he can get some answers.
This time he did get Tarun.
Tarun – Hey Jai, How are you man? I know I know I should have called but you know Natasha can be quite a handful and now that she and Bani have ganged up. It is even more difficult to keep up with them.
Jai – Hey Tarun, To tell u the truth I've been better. Wait till I get my hands on you. If I didn't owe you one for being with Bani I would have strangled the daylights out of you. So how is Bani? Better? How strong is her determination not to meet me?
Tarun – So many questions. All about Bani. You do know that there are other people in the world right? Anyways Bani is fine she is getting better. Sorry buddy, she walks out of the room even at the mention of your name. So I guess she is still pretty mad at you. I'll see you tonight. No you can't come to pick us up. I cannot risk Bani running off from the airport in her condition.
Jai – Thanks for everything yaar. I am really in for it with Bani. At least she is better. I'll make sure Adi is at the airport to pick u guys up. So see u tonight. Take care. Bye.
Jai went about his day in his usual fashion, eagerly awaiting the night, which refused to come.
It was 2 am in the morning. He was waiting for Adi to return from the airport. He was pacing up and down like a caged lion waiting to be freed. HE kept glancing at the door every now and then. Ultimately he sighed and reached out for his cell and dialed Adi's number. He heard a phone ring faintly behind him. He turned around to see a very exhausted Adi at the door with a slight smirk on his face.
Adi – My my…….. isn't someone anxious and impatient tonight.
Jai – What took u so long? How is she? They came back right? Why hasn't Tarun come with u? Is she still mad at me and Pia?
Adi sitting down on the sofa replied – I don't remember signing up for a game of 20 questions. Relax and have a sit while I fill you in. Yes Tarun and Bani have returned. I just dropped them off at Tarun's place. Bani was weak and the traveling didn't help either. She ll manage Jai. Stop looking so worried. Tarun is with her. Since she was so tired we decided against leaving her alone and that's why Tarun will drop over in the morning to see you.
Adi – Is she still mad at us?
Jai – Do I have to answer that? O please stop giving me those cut puppy dog eyes. Ok you asked for it. Yes she is still angry at you and I don't blame her. She said at if any of us even mention my 'ex- Brother-in-law' or 'Pushkar's wife' s name in front of her she will never see us again. She even refuses to acknowledge that you and Pia are related to her. She is obviously very hurt by what she heard. Just a friend's advice. Never even mention your and Pia's names in the same paragraph cause no saying what she might do to u on hearing u.
Jai – You seem tired. Go to bed I'll catch you in the morning. Good night.
Adi – Good night and try and get some sleep Jai.
PART 7
Jai had a good nights sleep just by knowing that Bani was in the same city as him. When he came down for breakfast in the morning he found Tarun and Adi waiting for him. All the others it seemed had already had their breakfast.
Tarun – Hey man. It is so nice to finally see you. And please before you start bombarding me with questions I ll remind you that others do exist in the world.
Tarun and Adi laughed will Jai tried to shrug them off.
Jai – O come on Tarun stop it. Now you are exaggerating. So tell me how is my darling Nats? Missing me? When is she coming?
Tarun – Nats in fine. Misses you a lot. She will be dropping in two days. She has had an absolute blast with Bani. I tell you those two can be quite difficult to handle.
Jai – So how is Bani? Still angry with me?
Tarun – She is fine. I just dropped her off at the office. She was stubborn about returning to work. Don't worry she is fine and I ll be joining her in the office soon. And yes, she is still angry with you.
Jai – Any ideas of how I can get through to her. Forget it. I ll work something out.
Tarun – Jai there is something you need to know. Bani hasn't told Nats that she is your wife. Infact she told Nats that she has left her husband and that its hurts so much to talk about it that she doesn't like bringing it up.
Jai was taken aback by what he just heard and looked extremely hurt. He couldn't believe this was happening to him. How did he so grossly misread the situation he thought.
Tarun – I know it hurts but you have to respect Bani and give her some space. She loves you and nobody doubts that. She'll come back to you. So just give all this some time.
Jai – Right now I just don't know what to do. Let's talk about something else.
Just then Tarun's cell rings. He looks at the number and he smiles.
Tarun – Yes Bani, tell me. What is it?
Bani- Tarun do u have some time? I wanted to go shopping. I was wondering if you could join me.
Tarun – Shopping???? Bani why do you suddenly want to go shopping?
Jai had shock written all over his face. His wife refused to even hear his name but was ready to go shopping with Tarun. He stared at Tarun with a big question mark on his face and jealousy in his eyes.
Tarun- Alright. Alright. I ll pick u up from the office in half an hour we can than go for lunch and then go shopping. If that's ok with you?
Bani – Yes, that's fine. See you later than. Bye.
Tarun turned to Jai and saw the expression he had.
Tarun – Jai. Chill she just wants to shop for the house. She wants to get some things before Natasha comes to town. Its for Nats not me. So please stop giving me those looks.
Tarun bid adieu to them very hurriedly and left. Jai couldn't help but wonder when Tarun and Bani had become so close to each other. He shrugged those thoughts and went to the office with Adi .
PART 8
Jai had spent the entire day wishing he could be Tarun just for the day. At least he'd get to spend some time with Bani. He decided to call Tarun just to get his mind to stop wandering away. He tried calling a couple of times but Tarun was not answering the phone. This made Jai even more anxious and he wondered if everything was alright.
Just as his mind was beginning to play havoc with his emotions Tarun called up. He whispered into the phone that he was still shopping with Bani and if she found out that he was speaking to him there was no saying what she would do. Promising to call him up as soon as possible Tarun hung up.
Jai somehow managed to busy himself with some work. Just as he was getting ready to leave the office he saw Pia walking towards the cabin. He quickly looked around to see if there was an alternate escape route. Maybe I should have left her in Dubai he thought wryly. I am sure she is adopted there is no way she can be related to Bani.
Not knowing what to do he just pulled out his cell phone and pretended to be in a very deep discussion with someone. He walked past Pia and when she gave him a pleading look he motioned that he was on the phone and he would talk to her later. Just as he entered the elevator his phone rang. He looked at Pia who had turned back and gave him a questioning look. Fortunately for him the doors of the elevator closed in time saving him a lot of embarrassment and the trouble of spending time with Pia.
The only relief he had was that Tarun had called back.
Tarun – Hey Jai, so tell me. Actually let me tell u Bani is fine. That seems to be all u ask these days. And yes as u know she is still in no mood for a let up. You'd make a great journalist with the way you ask questions these days esp if you had to report about Bani.
Jai – don't you tire teasing me about Bani? So tell me how was your shopping trip with my WIFE?
Tarun – Bani has excellent taste Jai. She thinks about everyone and everything. She bought so many things for Nats and for the house. She much to my surprise only bought things that were necessary. No unnecessary shopping. I didn't know God could make women like that. I thought that the shopping bug was an unavoidable programming error. And before I forget Nats told me to remind you that she ll be coming tomorrow morning and she expects you to join us for breakfast at 8 in the morning. You'll be joining us right?
Jai – have I ever refused a thing to my Princess? Her wish is my command. Tell her I ll be there. Will Bani be there?
Tarun – Yes naturally. She stays there remember. So you'll also get to finally see her wont you. I was surprised you didn't follow me around I was half expecting you to do that just to get a glimpse of Bani.
Jai was silent. He than told Tarun to take care of Bani and that he'll be there for breakfast tomorrow.
PART 9
It was about seven thirty in the morning. Jai was in the hall waiting for everyone to come so that they could leave for Tarun's place. He kept thinking where everyone was and what was taking so long. As he saw Adi he told him to hurry up, Nats would be waiting.
"Nats, Jai. I thought you'd be better at lying than this." Said Adi.
Finally everyone was ready to leave. Jai saw that Pia was also joining them for breakfast at Tarun's place. Jai just stared at her gaping.
Adi – Today is not your day Jai. Once Bani sees Pia with you, you are history. It was nice knowing you. And for all its worth the funeral is on me.
Jai just shook his head in disbelief. "This isn't going as planned", he thought.
Right through the way Jai kept thinking of reasons he would give Bani for Pia's joining them for dinner.
"Maybe I can tell her that aliens took over Walia mansion and the only way they agreed to let us leave was if we took Pia with us. Even they think she is lethal. Maybe I too could act all surprised as if I didn't know she was joining us…. What am I even thinking…. Forget it Jai…. Let's see where things go at least the funeral is taken care of……"
They reached Tarun's house. Jai got out of the car, took a deep breath, closed his eyes and remembered all the Gods he could, asking them to do something. Not knowing what to expect Jai let everyone including Pia walk into the house before him.
As he entered Tarun's place he noted a marked change in the way the house looked. It suddenly seemed to be full of warmth and gave a fuzzy feeling to the heart. He couldn't quite place a finger on it.
Adi- So your house has finally become a home. Congrats. Nats did this in an hour? She has been transformed into one amazing woman to have turned this place around.
"Is that so Adi bhaiya?", they heard a voice say.
They saw Nats walking down the stairs in a plain sea green salwar suit, her hair open and flying around as she ran down the stairs. Adi, Jai and Tarun looked at their 'princess'. She really looked like one they all thought in unison.
Adi – My cutie pie. How are you? It's been so long.
Adi lifted his hands to envelope her in a hug but she stopped in her tracks and said.
Nats- You know who gets the first hug from me.
All of them smiled and remembered that Jai was Nats favorite person in the whole world and they shared a bond that no one understood. So there was no one closer to Nats than her 'Bhai' as she affectionately called him.
Tarun and Adi turned around to Jai whose face was lit up with a 100 watts smile. Expecting Nats to come running up to him and give him a cute bear hug as he like to call it. She walked towards Jai and gave him a peck on the cheek and her trademark hug. That made Jai feel so much better. Then she walked over to Adi and gave him a hug. She meet everyone and was introduced to the new additions to the family. Jai meanwhile kept scanning the room for any signs of Bani.
Nats turned to Adi and said, "You were saying something about the house I believe Adi bhaiya. Well maybe you should compliment the person who deserves the credit for making this house a home. You have some competition bhai. She is steadily climbing the poll charts for my most favorite person. Ladies and Gentleman I give you , my Bhabhi…… Bhabhi……. Where are you? Bhabhi come here na."
Jai's eyes instinctively turned to the direction in which Nats was yelling. "Why is Nats calling her Bhabhi? Is she talking about Bani?"
He saw her walk in from the kitchen. She looked mesmerizing in a plain baby blue saree her hair done in a loose bun falling on her back giving a full view of the her back and waist in her deep cut blouse, she had the end of her saree tucked at her waist making her look very cute. Her hands were covered with flour and quizzed Nats with her eyes.
Nats – This Bhabhi is my family. You know them all I am sure.
Bani just nodded. And the motion caused a stray strand of hair to loosen and fall on her face causing her some irritation esp. as there was nothing she could do to tuck her errant hair behind her ear.
Jai stood there admiring his wife and noting her child like reaction to the runaway strand of hair. He was about to move to help her with her hair and out her out of her misery when he saw Tarun come forward and very carefully tuck her hair behind her ear. He then said something to Bani, which had her giggling like a kid, and shaking her head in amusement. She than excused herself, asking them to make themselves at home while she tried to make herself a bit presentable. Nats followed Bani into the kitchen.
Jai was very unhappy with what he saw. Tarun and Bani were getting too close for comfort.
Jai suddenly had a lot of questions pop up in his mind: Why was Bani staying with Tarun? Why had she decorated the house and care for it so much? Why was Nats calling her Bhabhi when she didn't know that Jai and Bani were married? Why did Bani turn to Tarun for help? Why didn't she even acknowledge his presence in the house?
They all walked to the sitting area and made themselves comfortable. But Jai was still ost in his thoughts
Then Bani and Nats walked out of the kitchen with tea and coffee for everyone. Nats placed the tray on the table, while Bani seated herself to make the tea and coffee for everyone. She makes tea and coffee for everyone as per their tastes and likes. Only Tarun, Jai and Pia are yet to be served. As Bani turns to Pia, Jai gets a little worried not really knowing what to expect from Bani.
Bani – So Piaji what do you feel like having today tea or coffee? Maybe I should make both there is no saying when you might want something different from what you asked for.
Pia – No, I won't have anything. Thanks.
Bani – What about you Sir? What would you like to have?
Adi, who was sipping his coffee almost chocked at it when he heard Bani address Jai as Sir. He looked at Jai, who looked like he had just been hit by a hurricane.
Nats- Bhabhi, you used to work for him so at that time he was Sir now you can call him by his first name after all he is Tarun Bhaiya's friend and you call Bhaiya by his first name. And bhai will have tea he doesn't like coffee.
Bani – How much sugar would you like Sir, two spoons or has your taste changed?
Tarun and Adi just gaped at Bani and then turned to Jai with the 'I told you she was angry' look on their face.
Jai – I don't change my tastes, Bani.
Bani – I presume that means you'll take two spoons of sugar.
Saying this she prepares his tea and passes it on to Nats to serve it to him. She than turns to Tarun, smiles and makes him his coffee. Just as she is about to pour herself some coffee. Tarun places his hand on her shoulder and says, "Bani, you aren't supposed to have coffee. Hari kaka, get some lemonade for Bani and add just a little sugar to it Bani doesn't like it if it gets too sweet."
That was as much as Jai could take and he suddenly stood up only to realize that everyone was looking at him. He muttered something about having to call the office and walked off to a corner of the room trying to calm himself down. A confrontation would have been better than her being so caustic and indifferent to him.
PART 10
He joined the gang in the sitting room a while later. Just as he sat down on the couch Pia who was sitting beside him leaned forward and whispered into his ear that he had forgotten the gift he had bought for Nats at home.
Bani saw this and it took her anger to another level. Now he is playing games in front of the family she thought. Then she smiled to herself saying, "I'll show you how it's done Mr.Walia. And I assure you this is not the way."
Everyone had their coffee and tea.
Bani looked aloof and didn't even give a second look to Jai and this had him seething. She along with Nats cleared the cups. And very sweetly told them.
Bani – All of you should move to the dinning area. I ll make the parathas, so all of you can have them while they are hot.
Rano – I'll come along to help didi.
Bani – Rano, that's a very generous offer but I have Nats to help me and guests shouldn't have to work. You just sit back and enjoy the breakfast.
Nats – Ya. Bhabhi is right Rano. We'll manage.
Rano – But you are here for a while, that too on a vacation so you shouldn't have to work.
Nats – Hmm… now there's an idea. So….. I can also play guest?
Bani – Nats hun. Nice try. If you don't want to help me I'll manage by myself. I have no escape after all this is my home and I am no guest here. So I have to no way out.
Saying this she made a cute puppy dog face, complete with batting eyelids and all. This made Nats, Tarun and Bani burst into a sudden fit if laughter as if at a personal joke.
Bani looked so cute and innocent as she laughed gleefully like a child, thought Jai. Why did she say this was her home, he wondered.
The effect of the 'personal' joke was that both Tarun and Nats went to the kitchen even though Bani vehemently protested against it.
All of them enjoyed their breakfast. It looked like a nice happy family. They all laughed and talked, teased and defended each other.
As they returned to the seating area after the very sumptuous breakfast.
Adi – That is the best food I have had in a very long time. Thanks Bani for a very memorable breakfast. But tell me why didn't you eat anything? You shouldn't remain hungry in your condition.
Bani – I am not at all hungry. Actually I am stuffed.
Nats- Adi bhaiya you really thought we'd let bhabhi stay hungry. Tarun bhaiya made sure she had something to eat first thing in the morning.
Bani – Yes Adi uncle. I have had something to eat. I have had a very filling breakfast and the world's best company.
After saying this she turned around to Tarun and mouthed him a 'thanks' and gave him a very enchanting smile.
Nats – I think we should all go to the farm house for a few days. Please bhai don't say no. I want to spend some time with my family.
Jai – Anything for you princess. But what about the office? Anyways I'll make someone take care of it. So tell me when do u want to leave?
Nats – Bhabhi you'll come along with all of us right? No bahanas na….
All eyes turn to her. Jai is sure that Bani will politely refuse not wanting to spend a few days with him esp. knowing Pia was lurking around. He had noted her discomfort even today. Adi looks at Jai understandingly half expecting her to refuse too. Everyone else too looks sad and knew what Bani would say. Bani turned to Tarun and looked at him questioningly. He gave her a reassuring smile and she turned to her and said so when do we leave?
PART 11
Jai, Pia and Adi leave for the office late in the morning, while the others decide to catch up with each other, and all of them decide to meet up and go out for dinner.
Later in the evening Adi returns to Tarun's place.
Massi- where is Jai? Why didn't he come with you?
Adi – Massi, Jai had some work, he'll be joining us later. Some thing came up in the office. He should be joining us in half an hour or so.
Looking at the girls he said, "So do you girls plan to change. Then please get at it. We need to have dinner tonight. And the rate at which you guys get ready we will end up fasting. So please girls move it."
Nats - Hey, I have an idea. Today all of us will wear western clothes. All of you look all grown up in sarees and salwaar suits. And I feel like a kid. And guys please tone it down and get rid of those heavy duty suits. Dress casual we are going out for a family dinner and not a business dinner.
Jai walks in while this conversation was going on, with Pia in hot pursuit. Bani sees this and her resolve to make Jai pay back for all the games is strengthened.
Nats turns to him and says, "That means you too bhai. No justifications and no explanations. I remember well that you did dress casual a while back. Tarun bhaiya must be having something casual you can slip into. Adi bhaiya is dressed casually enough. Any more casual and we'd all think he is ready for bed time."
Jai just smiles and looks at Bani, who is looking very lovingly at Nats, giggling at the joke Nats just made.
The girls make their way upstairs to get dressed. And both Tarun and Jai also go to change.
The guys are all dressed and waiting to leave. Adi calls out to the girls telling them they are late.
All the girls came down dressed in jeans and tops looking very young and beautiful. Suddenly Tarun asked, "Where is Bani? She isn't coming?" .
Nats said, "She is coming. She went to get something from your room."
Just as Nats completed her sentence Bani walked down the stairs. And everyone kept gaping at her. They had never seen her look like that.
She was dressed to kill in a black corset off shoulder top, with flowing sleeves teamed with a flowing white gypsy skirt.
Jai had never seen Bani look anything like this and just couldn't get his eyes off her. "Why didn't she ever dress like this when we went out for dinner? If she had I would never let her go. God, she looks hot !!!!!", thought Jai.
Bani saw the look in Jai's eyes. This made her heart do a victory dance. She had his undivided attention and this was signal enough for her to go ahead with her plans.
She very coolly walked down the stairs and started walking in Jai's direction. Jai's heart was pounding at the sight in front of his eyes. But much to his dismay, she just walked passed him and went and stood in front of Tarun.
Bani gave him a very cute smile putting her hand forward said, "You forgot your cell on the dresser again. Who reminded you to get it when I wasn't around?"
She turned around to see the annoyance on Jai's face. Pia came to her and whispered "You ve never dressed like this before. You look nice."
