Chapter 8

Everyone slowly started getting up and going inside' everyone but Dhruv. He stayed back for a second to rethink Ishika's behavior. The way she interrupted Antara and changed the subject sounded a bit fishy to him. He couldn't help but think that there is more to it. There's something that Ishika is hiding. Something that is painful to talk about, something he inferred from the expression change on Antara's face.

He made a mental note to ask about that directly to Ishika once they became better friends' For the moment, he followed the rest of them inside. As they entered the room, sudden warmth surrounded them all. Their freezing body warmed up completely in the next five minutes to come. They had had drinks in between but that wasn't enough to satisfy their hunger. They grabbed a table and had their dinner while having fun.

Everyone was having fun but Ishika was lost somewhere in her own world. She was wondering how her shifting here would change her life. All the new people she would be meeting' the new atmosphere, new standards of life' everything suddenly seemed difficult to adjust to. She had a hard time gulping the food down.

Out of the corner of his eyes, Dhruv was stealing glances at her, still a bit disturbed seeing her so worried and lost in thoughts. He had a huge temptation of walking up to her and asking her the problem. But then he questioned himself, "Why would she tell me? She doesn't even know me like a good friend to begin with'"

His friends diverted his attention once again. Though he wished he could divert her attention from whatever she was thinking about. There were silent spectators of this worry of Dhruv and Ishika. They were Antara and Yash. Antara knew the reason Ishika seemed silent and Yash could understand that his friend was feeling helpless, not able to help Ishika. Moreover, he was also worried about Antara, who seemed to be just as upset as Ishika. He knew he couldn't do much about Ishika as he didn't know her at all, but Antara, he could do something about.

He stood up suddenly and forwarded his hand, asking for a dance. "May I?" he asked gently.

She smiled, having no strong reason to refuse and slipped her hands in his palm. She let him lead her to the floor, as the songs changed to slow and romantic and the party songs were cut off for the night. Most of the crowd slightly started moving out. Only the couples and few other people hung out.

Rest of their friends started moving to the dance floor as well. Jayraj asked Dhruv, "Dhruv, aren't you coming?"

He saw this to be the perfect time. He acted, "I would' but what will I do dancing with myself? I don't have a partner'"

Nikita understood the hint first and she carried out the act. "Oh come on. Why are you lying? There's a pretty girl sitting right in front of you!"

Everyone's eyes flickered to Ishika and she slowly looked up at them, feeling how everyone was looking at her. The gaze made her aware that they were talking about her or asking her something. She had been so lost in her world, she wasn't quite aware of her surroundings. Now that she was, she asked, "Huh? Why are you all staring at me?"

Raj replied with a question, "Didn't you hear what any of us were saying?"

"No' I'm sorry. I'm just tired I guess' I'm not much used to staying out this late you see." She replied. That was a blunt lie. She wasn't tired' she was just sad. And about not staying out late- she ALWAYS stayed up late. It just wasn't 'out-out'.

Dhruv replied, "Really..? Is that why you were at the party until AFTER mid-night?" he had caught the lie of course. He could see in her lie that she can't lie properly. Moreover, the look in her eyes was grief, not tiredness.

Hearing the question, Ishika looked at the ground and everywhere else but Dhruv. She could see how easily he caught her lie. Only one person in the world could do that till now' Antara' And now, there was Dhruv as well. She finally looked up, gaining courage and said, "That was New Year's eve. A different situation all together." She then stood up and continued, "I'm sorry guys' I'll just head home'" she looked at where Antara was and the way she continued to look at Yash, she didn't want to interrupt. "Let her know I've left'"

She took a step out of the table when Nikita said, "Wait'" she caught up to her and continued, "You'll go alone at this time? You just said it's late. Let Dhruv drop you. I would but I seem to be called for." Inferring upon the dance.

Ishika's eyes flickered from Dhruv and back to Ishika. The thought of having a boy, especially when it was Dhruv, somewhat scared her and excited her. She didn't know why but being alone with him around just made her heart act crazy for a reason unknown to her.

"No, It's fine. I have my car and really, I'll go by myself. No need to trouble him." She replied stealing a glance at Dhruv.

Dhruv walked around the table. He wasn't going to let this idea of spending some time alone go to waste. "There's no trouble! And Nikita is right' you're new to town and you shouldn't be left to go home at this time alone. I'll drop you."

There was only one thing Ishika could manage to say, "But I have my car'"

"Your car can stay parked here. No one's going to swallow it. Tomorrow, we're all meeting to plan a few things before school re-opens. Antara will pick you up then and when we're done, you can leave with your car. Now let's go."

Now, Ishika had nothing in her part that she could say' She had no other option but to go home with Dhruv. She nodded and bid a low bye to everyone. To her surprise, Nikita gave her a hug and bid her bye.

Both Ishika and Dhruv walked out of the place. Dhruv followed close behind Ishika.
