Actor Tina Dutta can't contain her joy
that her first TV serial Uttaran, as a
lead is completing 1000 episodes today.
More so, because she has been a part of
the mega serial for the last three years.
She recalls the time when she was offered the role and she almost didn't take
it up. "The producer had come to
Kolkata for the audition. I was not sure
if I would be selected. However, on the
day I got to know that I was finalised, I
was offered another serial as a main
lead. That was a fresh show, whereas Uttaran was already on air. I went through
a dilemma and finally Uttaran won because it was a popular serial," says
Tina.
And why not? In this serial, Tina got
the opportunity to play a double role,
which is uncommon on the smallscreen. "I play 20-year-old Meethi as
well as the 40-year-old Iccha. The characterisations are completely different
and it's a huge challenge to portray
them together," says Tina who for the
older role took inspiration from her
own mother. "I observed the way she
talks, behaves, her sober body language
and incorporated it. Meethi's role is a
breeze because I am exactly like her —
bubbly, naughty and chulbuli," smiles
the actor.
However, with Rashami Desai Sandhu aka Tapasya making a comeback to
the show in today's episode, Tina's
screen time may get adversely affected
After all, it was only because of Rashami's exit earlier this year, that Tina's
role got lengthened both as Iccha and
Meethi. In fact, Tina became Meethi after the serial undertook another leap
after Rashami quit.
Tell that to Tina and she retorts, "Uttaran is Iccha's story. Even if Tapasya
(Rashami) is coming back, it is to get Iccha her rights (as Veer's wife). So, both
Iccha and Meethi will be there and
frankly, I have never been insecure."
Tina who has been playing a simple,
girl-next-door kind of a girl in the serial is
now itching to play a dark or negative
role. "I would love to do a film like Fashion
and the role Kangana (Ranaut) essayed in
it," says Tina. Hope the makers are
tuned in!
