Priyanka to play Mary Kom????

"As far as we know, Priyanka is going through the script right now. But nothing can be finalised until she finishes reading it. It's a big secret because neither Sanjay nor Omung want to let any information about the film out," says an insider close to the development of the project.

The film is likely to kick off around March-April next year, even though the female lead hasn't been finalised yet.

The insider adds that since Priyanka shares a good equation with both Sanjay and Omung, she might have an edge over her contemporaries. "She was also in talks with Sanjay for Ram Leela (tentative title), and although things didn't work out for that film, they want to work together soon. If all goes well, Omung's film might see that happen," adds the insider.

Despite repeated attempts, Sanjay remained unavailable for a comment.

MC Mary Kom, the Indian boxer has managed to make some space not just in the hearts of the million Indians but also in the heart of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The five time world champion hails from Manipur and belongs to the Kom tribal community. Mary is married to K Onler Kom and is the mother of two kids Rechungvar and Khupneivar. She has won many awards and medals along with the Arjuna award (2003) and Padma Shree (2006) for sports (boxing). She was also a contender for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the year 2007.

Mary recently won the bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in August.

Sanjay is so much inspired by this strong lady that he decided to produce a biopic on the boxing champion. Omung Kumar the famous art director is all set o make his debut in the industry as a film director with this biopic on Mary Kom.

Speculations doing rounds in the media is that, which actress will take up the role and step into the shoes of the 29 year old boxing champion? The buzz is that Priyanka Chopra might be the one. Whereas sources say Katrina Kaif's name might also be in the filmmakers list.

Though as of now nobody knows who will take up the role of the leading lady and everybody seems to be tightlipped about it. Speculations are rife whether the lead role will be played by an established actress or a newbie.

To this, Omung the director has to say that, "Right now, we don't know anything about the casting. We aren't sure if it's going to be an established star or a new face. But whoever is the chosen one will have to go through training to pick up Mary's style, body language and moves."

Supposedly the film will release in the month of March or April next year and it is already making people curious about it.

There is a strong buzz doing the rounds that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is planning to rope in actress Priyanka Chopra to play the 29-year-old boxer Mary Kom in his next venture.

The biopic will be based on the life of the boxing champion and the makers are in hunt of the girl, be it an established star or a new face, to essay Mary Kom's role.

According to a report by a leading daily, PC is going through the script right now. However, nothing is finalized yet. In fact, trade sources say that Katrina Kaif's name is also in the list.

Omung Kumar, a well known art director of Black and Saawariya fame, will be making his debut as a director of this biopic.

The movie is likely to go on floors in March-April next year.
