Okay, yesterday's depiction of Mandavi really forced me to come here and create this topic.

First things first. In Valmiki Ramayan, all that is known about Mandavi is that she married Bharat, and that (implicitly), she later had 2 sons Taksha and Pushkal, who accompanied their father in a war against the Gandharvas and conquered Gandhara and established 2 kingdoms there.

Has anyone read anything else about her in any of the other Ramayans - Adhyatma Ramayan, RamCharitManas, Ananda Ramayan, Adhbhut Ramayan or any of the other linguistic versions by other authors - Kamban, Krittivas, et al?

Reading about yesterday's episode where Mandavi was seething at Bharat losing that fictional contest against Rama, I thought that reactions might be one of outrage, since there were no saas-bahu relationships in Ayodhya. But if one just goes by the texts, there has been no character descriptions of either Mandavi nor Shrutiakirti. In Krittivas, Lakshman was described as asking Nidra devi to transfer all his sleep to Urmila, so that he doesn't have to sleep. But other than that, there is nothing about the other 3 sisters that remotely describes their character.

Therefore, the depiction of Mandavi in previous serials, where Bharat asked her to serve Mata Kaushalya, seemed really invented - I have no idea whether even Tulsidas had any account of that. While it is true that Bharat lived like a hermit in Nandigram, does it say that he lived like a Brahmachari? And are they trying to build up a justification for him shunning Mandavi during the 14 years by depicting her as a vamp here?

In ASR, when Lakshman got injured by Indrajit's shakti, they showed Urmila as unbelievably rude towards Sumitra, which was pretty outrageous. Here, it looks like they want to do some character exploration of Mandavi. In the ASR, they had Manthara try and instigate Mandavi to have dreams about being the Yuvrani of Ayodhya, but there, she pointed out that that role was Sita's, and Bharat came to her rescue and warned Manthara against repeating it.

Also, while nothing is mentioned about Mandavi & Shrutakirti, during this time, Bharat & Shatrughtan were visiting their mama's kingdom in Kekaya. There is no reason to think that Mandavi & Shrutakirti weren't accompanying them (which is what they showed in ASR)

The serial is heavily inspired by dkdm I feel in the sense they r recreating their own version. Hence whatever happen I just enjoy it as soap. I watch it for neil bhatt, the onlyguy who stands out for me, rest all act ott. The voice recording and editing give an effect I am watching a 80s coatume dra

On topic there was absolute love amd devotiom among the janaka sisters. So mandavi acting like a jealous devrani is highly unlikely. Sorry cannot vote feom phone. My answer is no. I don't like it.

please don't compare ramayan with dkdm.
we have already compare many thing between ramayan and dkdm and dear one thing i want to told that dkdm have lots of weakness but i am not interested to tell about.
Dkdm is totally based on relationship among lord shiva-sati and maa parwati. and ramayan is mainly based on lord rama character and relationship between brothers.
i think if u take ramayan as mytho show definitely u will learn .something
mandvi is not a big issue actually sagar pictures present bharat as great ram bhakt .they are mainly focus on brothers relationship.
anyway i am not giving any suggestion to u ,this is only my pov u are free for doing anything.

^^ kindly read my post before jumping into conclusion. If you cannot understand what I wanted to convey feel free to ask and I would be happy to offer an explanation. I am well aware of the faults of dkdm. I am a regular of mytho soaps. And I see this soap reiterating many of those mistakes in carrying the soa like undue rationalization and some random storyline which find no mention in valmiki or tulsidasi ramayan. This is same mistake done in dkdm more than often. Before yoi say again yes I know its about shiv and this is about ram. but both make similar mistakes. I stand by what said and what I feel to be fault of the soaps.
Thankd for your pov. I know ramayan and other mythos quite well. I am not interested in taking these interpretations as mythology or epic sinfe its their own distorted vereion in my opinion.. That is my choice. I hope yoi don't have issues with it. I have issues with how mandavi is potrayed and turned into petty saas bahu soap fharacter.
Thank you once again but I wil decide what I want to take from ramayan and what I will opose being force fed.

I feel this ramayan is a custom made version of the makers and I already used the word I feel before. So I hope people understand its my opinion ,to which I am entitled.

Poster above I know you mean well bit I am not comfortable with undue endearment term from random people . ,specially speaking to me in a patronizing tone. If we engage in discussion can we cut the dear etc and unnecessary patronizing oit until we have established a level of rapport?

They are just converting mytho-soaps into daily soaps. In ramayna i think only importance givwn to mandavi when bharat goes to live like hermit and mandavi supported her decision. Only that much the makers try to make it saas bahu drama ya manthara attempted to instigate mandavi but she remained unaffected from it. They are continuously showing sita and kaikeyi clashes mandavi instigation. i agree dur to the kitchen politics of manthara and kaikeyi ram got vanvaas but can't we take it in other way why adding masalas of saas bahu

I voted 'nope'. For me, maligning the characters of Sita, Urmila, Mandavi, or Shrutakirti is a big NO. Just like Bharat, Lakshman, and Shatrughan were also parts of Vishnu, Urmila, Mandavi, and Shrutakirti were also parts of Lakshmi, so their characters should be depicted in a dignified way.
I hate any scenes where the sisters of Sita are portrayed rude, no matter which Ramayan it is. I hated the scene from Imagine's Ramayan where Urmila was shown rude to Sumitra in Yudh Kand, and I hated this scene in this Ramayan where Mandavi is shown jealous of Ram being chosen as King.
It doesn't matter that nothing is written about the sisters of Sita in any version of Ramayan. Ramayana the EPIC is not a saas-bahu tale. These characters were not gray-shaded like the characters from Mahabharat. These were idealistic characters who always exhibited ideal behavior in every moment of their life.
Just because not much is written about Mandavi and Shrutakirti in the epic doesn't give writers of a mythological show the right to malign their characters. They can use their creative liberty to show Mandavi in a higher light, because these were all idealistic characters and were Godly in their conduct, but to show her jealous like a typical 20th century devraani totally destroys the beauty of the epic.
I am not against creative liberty when it produces meaningful family scenes that portray the love that Ram and Sita had with their brothers and sisters, but when jealousy and anger is shown I hate it.
They did this to Bharat too in the beginning of the show, making him jealous of Ram when Dashrath fed him first. Sure they improved him later on, but the writers have to be careful not to instill jealousy into this epic. It's not the Mahabharat. It's the Ramayan.🤔

Oh yeah, I'd like to mention that I voted 'Nope' only because the changes that have been made so far are plain insulting to the characters, but if SP made changes by using stories from other sources like Valmiki, Adhyatmi, or Ananda Ramayan, then I wouldn't mind. I like seeing a rich serial of Ramayan based on many sources, but when the stories destroy the characters I hate it, whether it be from the 1986 Ramayan, 2008 Ramayan, or 2012 Ramayan. The 1986 and 2008 ones may be my favorites, but I do recognize that they have their own faults and hate those faults. If there is one thing I hate it's a blind fan, and I'm not a blind fan who appreciates every single thing about my favorite show.
