Chapter 1: The Bet"Welcome back to Saint Xavior's State College! We hope you had an enjoyable summer vacation and are gearing yourself up for another year of learning and success... This school has been one of the most reputable in the city and we hope that with the entry of our first year students...blah blah blah."
Although the last three words hadn't come directly from the principal, Arnav had heard them alright! He yawned, stretching his arms behind his back as he leaned lazily on his sleek silver Honda Accord. Another year. Of failure of course. Arnav Singh Raizada probably held the first position for the maximum number of times failing. People who had entered St. Xavior's after him had already moved on and were in the process of (probably) looking for work. While our main hero, Arnav, was still a third year business student. He didn't mind it at all.
Being the most recognized stud as well as the captain of both the basketball and football teams, Arnav had no time for futile things such as studying.
If one searched his name on the school website, one would probably discover Arnav's complete biodata. He was fairly tall (5'9), black hair, brown eyes, and was the owner of the sexiest smile known to man. Physique? Slender. Six-Pack. Skin colour? Brown. But just the right shade. Not too dark. Not too fair. Level of hottness? Undescribable. And current status: Dating. Three girls at once actually! Pretty good record, even for himself.
Arnav smirked, turning his attention to the college gate. Perhaps, if he saw any girl worthy of his status, a fourth one might not be too difficult to add in. Speaking of which, there were only three things Arnav looked for in any girl: beauty...beauty... and beauty. And a new year meant new babes. His eyes donned a mischievous glint. Yes. This year was certainly going to be interesting...
He was shaken out of his thoughts by a hard slap on his back. He didn't have to turn to know who it was. Of course. The one and only. "S'up bro?!" Came the loud and obnoxious voice of his friend Nandkishore (who, by the way, would have murdered me if he had caught me calling him so). "How's Jenny?" Arnav reached into his pocket, pulling out a cigarrette. Lighting it, he put it to his mouth, taking in a puff. "Please. Jenny came no where close to being my girlfriend. She was just... a fling." Nk raised his eyebrows, smirking. "Really?! So what kind of girl is my buddy here actually looking for?" Asked Nk, knowing full well of his friend's response.
He laughed. "Stop being stupid Nk. Girls are like...tissues." He said, after a moment of thinking. "Use and throw types. They're never permanent." Nk chuckled, shaking his head. His friend would never change. "I don't know about that buddy." Came another voice, from behind. Shyam. "I'm sure destiny has something planned for you! Dekhna, ek din aisi koi ladki aayegi jo tumhaari ulti phulti zindagi ko ekdum seedha kar degi." Arnav grinned. "Heyy! Long time yaar! How's your summer been?" He said, giving him a brotherly hug. Over the years, Shyam and Arnav had grown unbelievably close. Although Shyam, in age, was younger than both Arnav and NK, he was two years ahead of them in school. The ideal goody two shoes. Thought Arnav, chuckling to himself. Only God knew how he had found loafers like him and Nk as best friends.
"Aur mujhe aise din ka intezaar hai..." murmured Arnav, giving the most dramatic look he could muster, "Jab meri sapnon ki rajkumari mujhe humesha humesha ke liye badal degi..." All three looked at each other for a moment before bursting out in laughter. "No, but seriously. I'm not interested." Said Arnav. "Girls are just too much work to handle. Ab dekh, I'm trying to handle three at once. Not easy buddy boy. Not easy. Sirf woh hi nahi, they've got to be the most boring girls in the world. Humesha shopping, shoes, dresses... uff... Not to mention, teen ke teen drama queens hain... i don't know how long this is going to go on..." Arnav said, taking another breath of his cigarette. "I swear, if they hadn't been the three most popular girls at school, I would have dumped them by now." He sighed at the troubles in his life.
Shyam smiled. "But you know, not all girls are like that. I mean-" Arnav groaned. "Arre yaar, ab tu lecture mat shuru kar. Either they're obsessed over clothes or they're obsessed over school. Shouldn't there be like an in between point? Like the ideal girl? Like...funny...cute...smart...with a sense of humour? Agar aisi koi mile, tho mujhe zaroor batana..." Arnav shook his head sadly and laid a hand on his friend's shoulder. "But aaj ke zamaaneme...I highly doubt there's anyone like that. Iss liye...I've gotta make do with what I've got."
Shyam rolled his eyes. "Arnav. How can you expect the perfect girl to walk into your life when you yourself aren't perfect?! Arre, apne aap ko dekha hai? Poore teen salon se fail hote hue aa rahe ho... and that too, showing no improvement. You smoke...and to top it off, you're a womanizer... How do you expect any middle class, average girl to be happy with you?"
Arnav stiffened. He knew what he was doing with his life. And Shyam had absolutely no right to comment on his personal affairs. "Dekh. Tujhe mere maamlon me padhne ki koi zarurat nahi. Stay out of it. What goes on in my life is MY problem, alright? Aur kya kami hai mujhme? I'm good looking, I'm smart... haan woh baat alag hai ke main koshish nahi karta par phir bhi... I'm captain of two sports teams... I'm rich... Aur ek middle-class ladki ko kya chahiye?! I'm every girl's dream guy. Samjhe?"
Nk raised his hands, through with both his friends' constant bickering. "Arre! Stop fighting you two! You sound like girls! Uff! And I know of a way we can settle this." Both Arnav and Shyam looked at him, curiously. Nk's eyes were twinkling with mischief. I don't like where this is going... Thought Arnav. But whatever it was, he had decided in those few brief moments, he wasn't backing out. He had a rep to protect after all! "What is it?" Arnav asked, words measured.
Nk slid his arms around their necks, pulling them closer. "A bet." He whispered. "Shart."
Shyam raised his eyebrows, wondering what his friend had in mind. "Arnav. I give you one month. If in that one month, you can make a middle class girl, chosen by me and Shyam, fall in love with you, we'll admit that you're every girl's dream guy. If you lose, then... you'll have to face the consequences!"
Arnav was confused. "So that's ALL I have to do? Make her fall in love with me?" Shyam interrupted, chuckling. "Let's make this a little spicier, shall we? You have to make her fall in love with you, get her to admit it AND you have to bring her to the fall dance. Alright?"
Arnav shook his head. "And if I do this... you guys will admit defeat." He said, slowly, pondering it over. Both his friends nodded. "Yepp! So whaddaya say? Are you in?"
Arnav's confusion slowly transformed into a smirk. "Get ready to lose boys." He said. "Cuz you have no idea who you're up against."
