Adi( Anju) we were introduced to was angry, fiercely protective of his family, very close to/looked up to TVS, cared for Amu in his own way and tolerated Sugni because of TVS and Amu only. He would not speak to Sugni unless it was absolutely necessary and if she offered advice he rebuked her promptly.
You could see that:
-when he went to TJS's havali and threatened him that if he ever came near his family he will be regret it. When he came home and told TVS, TVS said you should have told me instead of confronting TJS alone and Adi said I wanted you to say that "ish banda ma bhi kuch hai". TVS's approval meant soo much to him.
- when he pulled Sugni from the burning jeep he grabed by the arms and flung her out of it. If TVS had not come along and grabed her she would have banged into a wall. there was no emphathy for Sugni other than as a human being. When Sugni tried to thank him for saving her life he cut her off mid sentence with one look and turned to TVS said Mamaji what is happening is not right. I am worried about your safety so come home quickly and walked off. His only concern was for his mama.
- even when he made his bendi tolerance speech he was saying that they should tolerate Sugni because mama was trying to save her from such a life. Not that he personally would ever contemplate doing such a thing.
- he even told Sugni that TVS was fighting family and society for her. Make sure you do not break his heart. He even challenged her and said you are soo young what if tormorrow your or Mamaji ka maan bhar jaya or you meet and fall in love with someone else?
That Adi would never raise a hand to his Mama no matter what especially not for a Bedni. He would never consider marrying/loving a girl who his mama considered his life.
He did not believe in love. His view was that you need to know someone very well before thinking about marrying them.
The new (Adi) when he came had a personality change to man who thinks he has the right to tell someone older than him how to live their life and attack someone older with no provocation and then try and justify it to himself saying that Mamaji was trying to do jabar jasti with Sugni (TVS approached her to take her to hospital. Nothing more adn Sugni could have said no but she did not get a chance before he stepped in).
The old Adi would not be sitting around day dreaming about Sugni and whether he loved Sugni but would be chasing around trying to find his Mama after he had torn a strip off Sugni for hurting TVS when he has done soo much for her.
