Kunal in the hotseat
Kunal Kohli is all set to don the judge's hat for Nach Baliye 2 as Farhan Akhtar is busy with the post-production of The Don. "When Deepak Sehgal of STAR called me I wasn't averse. One, because I was in between films, I am scripting my next and two, I loved the show," states Kunal.
The writer-director who began his career on the small-screen with Chalo Cinema, Phillips Top 10 and Kya Scene Hai a decade ago feels like he is going back to his alma matar now. "Coming to TV is like a school re-union for me," he laughs. Talking about the TV scenario, Kunal says lot of things have changed but "the film-based ones are following the format I pioneered". He recalls that when satellite TV was launched he must have been the 17th employee to be hired by Zee. "That does make me a pioneer at least as far as film-based shows are concerned," he avers. Though he is not following up on TV shows, he is all for reality TV and enjoys The Laugther Challenge. "I had also watched one episode of Nach Baliye 1 when I was shooting Fanaa," informs Kunal. And after he struck a deal with STAR he called for the DVDs of season one and made it a point to watch all of them. "I am amazed at how seriously the participants take the show. They are rehearsing six hours a day even before the show has started," he says. So what will be his criteria to judge the show. "I am going to rate the jodis on the basis of their dance, expression and chemistry between the two. I am known to speak my mind. In fact, I am brutally honest, so I am going to tell it like it is," says the writer-director who enjoys all forms of dancing and is all set to have a ball on the show.
