hmm... so people (who are really eager for the update) i shall be updating today ;)

well i guess i have lost many readers on the account that the mystery is dragging or maaneet scenes can see no light at all or whatever other reasons but i am asking for all those people to give this update a last chance to see if u really feel that the story is going nowhere you are absolutely free to leave. i really hold no grudge for people not liking a story. i am reader first before i became a writer and i do understand sometimes as a writer he/she becomes so raptured in their work that they fail to see the other side of the coin. so similarly i may have unnecessarily dragged but this story is like my little baby that needs a lot of attention and i have thought of the exact storyline much before i started writing and thus cannot really change it because then it would look too surreal. also lot of issues crop up when i write. one main is logic. i need to keep in mind the logic of the story and the consequences of having a particular scene so that it does not come to haunt me in the future updates...

so what i mean to say is i am sorry for my delay in updating. yes i was withheld personally until a few weeks ago and then i started writing but that eagerness in me seems to have vanished due to lack of interest in ur side and josh in my side. i have finally given a shot at this update to see if people are willing to give this story a shot. i shall pm this update and then delete all the people except a few whom i know are regular in following this story. so people who have been not keeping up with this story and wish to stay so can delete me off ur PMing list others can send a request again.

Thank you!

PS: story for the long baashan 😳

Chapter 39: A Void Overcome

~Past~
Geet woke up as the sunrays made their way into the room, highlighting it. She rubbed her eyes of sleep and sat up, leaning on the bed backstand. She stretched and looked around only to be surprised at the sight. Maan had dozed off on the chair with his head dangling to the left because of lack of headrest on the chair. She chuckled shaking her head at the sight in front of her. She got up to straighten his head for it would certainly hurt when he woke up. She was about to adjust his neck posture when she saw him peacefully sleeping with a serene expression on his face. She admired his perfectly sculpted face, his light stubble, chiseled contours of his jaw, the perfectly M-shaped li—her thought process froze at that point. She couldn't believe her thoughts were running out of control. He had just extended his hand in friendship and she couldn't sin that relationship by letting such thoughts. Letting your thoughts array. Not trusting her own actions she decided to wake him up.
"Maan uthiye," she said tapping his shoulder.
Maan woke up groggily and straightened his neck only to cringe in the process due to his nightlong sore position. He stretched his neck and turned it side to side hoping to rectify it when she asked with concern if he was alright. He assured her he was absolutely fine but was worried about her. At the mention of his concern, events from last night came rushing back to her, tuning her pale.
"Tum fikar mat karo Jaanu. We'll leave as soon as possible," he said squeezing her hand in assurance. She smiled weakly and looked away. He wanted to cheer her up and decided he would take her out today so that she could forget her worries. "Jaanu why don't we go out today. You anyway have never been around this city na?" he said hoping to divert her attention. "Suna hai ki there is one of the biggest temples here. We'll go there teekhai?"
"Voh Maan, nahi it's okay."
"Arre aise kaise hum tumhe chod denge. Hum jaa rahein hai. It's Maan Singh Khurana's order!" he said haughtily.
"Accha?" she bemused folding her arms on her chest.
"Please?" he said knowing she would never listen to him and even more when he ordered her around.
"Fine," she said reluctantly.
"Yeh hui na baat," he winked before taking her into a bone crushing hug. Geet who had still been in some other thoughts was taken aback by his sudden hug. Not that he had never hugged her but something seemed new to her today. A sort of electric current passed through her at his sudden touch, alarming her yet calming her at the same time. Her hands slowly made its way to hug him back, unaware of the feelings brewing inside her when he came out of the hug and looked intently at her. "Jaanu don't ever forget that mein humesha tumhare saath hoon. And I promise to make sure nobody shall even think of hurting you. Teekhai?" he said cupping her face to which she merely nodded, her eyes getting teary.
"Uff yaar, kuch toh khair karo tumhare aankhein ke baare mein. It must be really tired producing so much of tears round the clock!" he said shaking his head causing Geet to gape at him.
"Hmph!" she snubbed at his comment and jerked her head away in mock anger. He came forward to look at her and chuckled at her cute antics.
"Thank you Muruga, let her be angry, atleast her waterworks won't begin," he said looking up but keeping an eye on her reaction. As expected, she turned around with her hands on her hips.
"Oi hello Mr. Jellyfish, main crybaby nahi hoon!" she defended herself.
"I never called you crybaby, but tum abhi kaho toh," he paused earning a loud gasp from Geet.
"Don't you dare," she warned him pointing her finger at him.
"Nahi, I am just saying," he said trying to suppress a smile.
"Chup, bilkul chup," she imitated him looking sternly causing Maan to instantly shut his mouth. "Very good boy, now go and get me my coffee," she ordered giving him a victory smile.
"Kya?" he asked looking incredulously.
"Coffee, filter coffee aapko pata nahi?" she asked innocently.
"Ji madam, aur kuch laoon?" he asked sarcastically.
"Nahi abhi voh hi kaafi hai. Agar aur kuch chahiye toh bol dungi."
"Ji madam zaroor mujhe hi boliyega," he said gritting his teeth and heading to get her filter coffee.
Maan brought her coffee along with breakfast on a tray, as Geet had not properly eaten last night. She tried to trick him into eating only half but he sternly overlooked and threatened he would feed her if she didn't eat by herself. She cursed him away under her breath but had no choice but to eat else he would really make her eat. Once he was satisfied she had her breakfast he excused himself to make an important call and told her to freshen up and shower.
Returning from the call he found Geet ready in a simple yet elegant maroon saree with golden yellow zari beautifully contrasting her milky skin tone. Her hair was neatly combed into a loose plait reaching to her hips. She was about to apply a bit of khol when Maan interrupted her.
"Geet, voh kuch important call aaya I need to go, tum kuch der intezaar karo, I'll be back and then we can go out," he said looking at her reflection on the mirror.
"Office se call kya, I'll also come with you," she began to say when he cut her.
"Nahi!" he said a bit loud. Seeing her look at him with a questioning look at his sudden outburst he lowered his voice, "Nahi Geet, tum taqleef mat uthao. I'll go just for a few hours and be back phir I'll pick you up," he said giving her a cheeky smile.
"Maan is everything alright? Site mein kuch problem hai kya?" she asked with concern.
"Nahi toh Jaanu, it's just I need to wrap some things up before we leave today and I want you to take rest, teekhai?" he said genuinely.
"Fine magar aap two hours mein nahi aaye toh I'll come behind you," she warned.
"Ji madam hum turant aapki seva ke liye aajayenge," he mocked making her giggle. He smiled seeing her happy and hoped her happiness last forever.
Maan left telling the Desikan couple that he would be out on some urgent work and that Geet would be home. He had particularly asked Mrs. Desikan to look after to Geet's needs and promised to be back within a few hours. Mrs. Desikan had assured him she would look after Geet and told him not to worry a bit. Thanking her for her grace and kindness, he left to take care of a few things he had left incomplete yesterday.
Meanwhile, Geet decided to kill time talking to Mrs. Desikan and helping her make lunch. Having finished making lunch, Mrs. Desikan suggested they go out to the market as she had to puchase some groceries and since Geet would be bored alone she should accompany her. Geet readily agreed to go along since Maan had not returned yet. In the middle of their shopping session Maan called her asking where she was. She replied that she was out shopping with Mrs. Desikan in the market near Thanjavur old bus stand. He then asked her to be ready as he was coming to pick her up for some important work.
"Magar Maan I cannot just rudely leave her to do the shopping," she said uneasily.
"Geet, main use samjhadoongi, you just be ready alright?" he stressed in a serious tone.
"Jellyfish!" she muttered under her breath. "Jab dekho all he thinks about is himself," she admonished.
"Geet mujhe sab sun raha hai, now if you are done with your cribbing, let Mrs. Desikan know and I shall be there," he ordered and cut the call before she could protest. Hearing the call disconnect she looked at her phone indredulously. 'Did he cut MY call!' she thought angrily before stomping away to find Mrs. Desikan.
Before long Maan arrived to pick Geet up at the market and apologized to Mrs. Desikan for whisking Geet away but her presence was needed so he had to take her with him. The old lady fondly smiled and said that she had no problem and had just brought her along since she would feel lonely at home. Bidding adieu, Maan and Geet exited out of the market while Maan requested the driver to take them to an address he had scribbled on some scrap paper.
"Maan hum kahaan ja rahein hain?" Geet asked curiously.
"You'll soon know," he said looking ahead while sitting next to her.
"Batayiye na please," she pleaded.
"Geet don't give me that puppy dog look, chup chap baitho," he ordered, looking at her with a stern look.
"Je—" she began to curse when he cut her.
"Haan main jellyfish hi hoon, happy?"
She sighed while her shoulders slumped in defeat. She looked up complaining, "Muruga! Why? Why me?"
Maan smiled looking at her antics from the corner of his eye but refrained to comment whilst she began her string of cursing in Tamil or worse began to cry. Seeing him stay mum to her complains she grunted angrily and sat back before looking out of the window. They reached their destination and Maan began to get out of the car while Geet peered through the window. The place seemed too familiar but it didn't quite strike her so she got out of the car slowly, engrossed in her own thoughts. She walked around the car to stand beside Maan only to be shocked. She instantly gripped Maan's hand and wrapped her hands around his biceps tightly while tears clouded her eyes. She tried to speak only to have gasps of air come out due to her shock. She stood rooted to the place while Maan tried to calm her emotions by caressing her back gently.
The man before them walked slowly with his wife beside him and came to stand in front of Maan and Geet. A sense of taut tension seemed to persist in the air for a few seconds before the older man began to fold his arms and bow before Geet.
"Enai manichidu Geet (Please forgive me). I am really sorry for last night," he said regretfully.
"Seshu mama!" (Seshu uncle) Geet gasped in horror seeing the elderly man seek forgiveness from her and leaped towards him, hugging him tightly and sobbing loudly. "It's my fault, I shouldn't have brought back those old wounds," she managed to say in between her sobs. Her uncle simply caressed her hair trying to hold back his own tears.
"I'm sorry, I did hurt you with my caustic words. These years of separation has taght me nothing but bitterness and anger. While I should have been happy, I simply scoffed away in the name of false pride," he said feeling ashamed at his own actions. "Anger clouded my mind and I was not thinking properly and pata nahi main kya kya bol diya," he said remorsefully.
"Mama please," (Uncle please) she begged not wanting him to apologize. She stepped back from him embrace while he turned to see Maan standing by the car. He immediately folded his hands seeking his apology but Maan leaped forward to hold his hand and hug him tightly.
"Aap yeh kya kar rahe ho?" he asked alarmed at her uncle's gesture. "Aap mujhse umr mein bade hain. Please don't seek forgiveness from me. I shouldn't have spoken like that," he apologized.
"Nahi beta without even thinking I went to blame you and your character too. Ho sake toh mujhe maaf kar de beta," her uncle whispered.
"Please sir, I immediately forgot what you told yesterday. And moreover you have all the rights to scold me," he added sincerely.
The scene in front of her awed Geet. It had not taken Maan to think twice before embracing her uncle who had debased his character last night. She was her uncle and had all the rights to blame her and get angry on her but she wouldn't mind his words. On the other hand, Maan being an outsider did not need to contact him or forgive him for that matter. She wondered at his generosity and humbleness thanking the lord for having such a person as part of her life. She felt blessed and her respect for him had increased immensely seeing his selfless act. Her eyes teared up, not in sorrow but in happiness for the man in front of her.
Finally after the initial tears, her uncle invited them in requesting them to have a proper meal because they had left in a hurry last night.
"So Geet how is my little sister Anu?" Seshagopalan asked taking his seat opposite to her.

"She is fine mama (uncle) but she misses you a lot. She never lets us know but a day doesn't pass without her remembering you people," Geet said looking up from her plate.
"Maine uska dil bahut dukhaya hai," he said shaking his head in regret. "Can I," he hesitated a bit before continuing, "can I speak to her please?"
"Of course, she would be really happy to hear your voice," Geet gushed excitedly.
And once the meal was done Geet rushed to fish out her cellphone to dial her mother's number. It rang a few times before her mother picked up to say hello from the other side.
"Amma!" she squeaked excitedly, "I have a huge surprise for you!"
"Ennadi aachu ippadi kuthikkarare?" (What happened, why do you sound so excited?) Anuradha asked confused at her sudden call.
"Just wait a few seconds," she said before handing the call to her uncle.
Seshagopalan hesitated a few seconds before slowly greeting his sister. It had been more than twenty years since he had talked to her and was not sure if she would even speak to him after all the things that had perspired these years. "Hello?" he said softly waiting for her speak. But the other side of the line seemed dead with nobody talking on the other side. He thought she might have cut the call hearing his voice or worse forgotten who he was. But to his surprise he heard a gasp from the other side a few seconds later.
"Anna?" (Brother) she asked with a lot of hesitation.
"Enna mannichiko di," (Please forgive me) he apologized sincerely. Tears freely flowed from her eyes while Anuradha couldn't stop herself from sobbing on the other side.
"Anna, how, I mean eppadi?" (Brother I mean how) she asked confused and extremely happy at the same time.
"It's all because of your Geetu and this fine young man with her," he said looking proudly at Maan. Maan returned his smile while Seshagopalan went to explain how he met Geet and Maan.
It was a while before everyone got off the phone and the atmosphere became normal from all the crying and emotions. Anuradha was ecstatic to finally talk to her brother who came to mean a father figure to her and her mother who couldn't stop crying hearing her daughter's voice after all these years. Everyone was praising and thanking Maan for making this impossible event happen. Anuradha especially became extremely emotional while she thanked Maan from the bottom of her heart for reuniting her family. Maan had dismissed her thanks saying it was the least he could do as a son to her. Geet was overwhelmed with Maan's gesture and averted her eyes to Maan and for an instant her heart skipped a beat, as a new kind of feeling seemed to envelop her. Before she could delve into her emotions she was distracted by her uncle's conversation and joined in rejoicing with her mother on the phone. Finally after all the tears and promises of seeing each other soon, Geet disconnected the call.
"Cheri Seshu mama nanga kilambarom," (Alright Seshu uncle, we shall take leave of you then) Geet said standing to leave.
"Cheri ma, nee ennikki kilambarennu chollu, annikke nanum ivalukkum sethu ticket book panniduren," (Okay dear, you let me know when you are leaving, I shall book our tickets on the same day) he said with a smile.
"Sure mama, I think we should be leaving in a day or two. I don't think amma can handle anymore than a few days or she'll come running here," she joked and walking towards the gate. "Cheri paati naan varen, bye maami," (Alright grandma I'll take leave, bye aunty) she said turning towards her grandmother and aunt who accompanied her to the gate. They both smiled and bid adieu. They went to sit in the car and settled down to wave their byes to her family.
The ride back home was quiet yet a serence sense of peacefulness and happiness seemed to persist. Geet walked along with Maan to her room, all the while her eyes on him. He was walking casually with his eyes forward. They reached her room first and he waited for her to go in only to have her lingering near the door.
"Geet, sab teekh hai? Are you, are you happy?" he asked with a bit of hesitation. He didn't inform her of meeting with her uncle but he just couldn't let go of the fact that Geet had suffered so much last night. As much as she wanted to go back home, she was deeply hurt of her uncle's behavior and missed having her whole family by her side. And of course how could he forget the constant hollow look of his Anu ma. He understood the loss of a mother, the lack of having a wholesome family. He had definitely found that in the warm embrace of Anu ma and this was the least he could do to rectify and complete her family. So he had taken the liberty to go speak with Geet's uncle and ask for his forgiveness. Seshagopalan was initially reluctant to meet him but his persistence and the need to ask for forgiveness from a man who made no difference to the Maan Singh Khurana had her uncle impressed and awed. Things had moved smoothly from there and Maan promised to get her uncle to meet her. Although he was elated to have finally earned the respect and love and reunited some broken ties, he was unsure how Geet would take all the sudden changes. She did seem all too happy when she was with them but she had been hurt and he didn't know if she was really happy with the turn of the events. "I mean I know you were hurt but I couldn't help myself from going back to talk with him. I am really sorry I never told you about it before. Maybe I should have haina?" he asked looking at her blank expression. "Damn Jaanu… I… main… voh," he stuttered unable to concoct the right words to console her.
"Maan," Geet whispered, coming forward to hold his hand in assurance. "I am fine. Aur main bahut khush bhi hoon," she said smiling through her tears.
"Oh Geet," he sighed in relief, pulling her into a tight hug. "Thank you thank you thank you! Pata hai main kitna darr gaya tha? I thought I was pushing you into something you didn't even want in the first place," he said tightening his hold on her and swaying her back and forth in sheer joy. "Mujhe pata tha that I shouldn't be taking you back to them magar I couldn't stand to see a broken family. I know how hard its to loose a family."
Geet rubbed his back trying to soothe his emotions. "Nahi Maan I need to thank you for making such a huge difference in my life," she confessed sincerely. He then broke their hug and made her look at him while he held her at an arm's distance.
"I am glad you are happy Jaanu," he said pecking her forehead and then intently looking at her with satisfaction.
"Oh God!" she exclaimed slapping her forehead. "Maan I lied to amma and pappa about we going to the other place. Ab main un dono ko kya jawab doongi?" she asked pouting in distress.
"Oh God Geet I really thought there was something serious looking at your expression. Bas itni si baat?" he asked chuckling at her innocence.
"Maan of course it's a big issue," she admonished his nonchalant reply.
"Uff Geet, main hoon na, let me handle Anu ma," he assured smiling at her.
"Acchaji? Toh aap single-handedly will handle Anuradha Krishna Handa?" she asked amusedly.
"Ji bilkul," he said confidently. "Agar main uski beti ko handle kar sakta hoon toh her mother is a piece of cake," he smirked knowing her reaction.
Instantly Geet's mouth widened becoming the shape of a mini donut hole. "Kya?" she asked, her pitch rising a little and with her hands on hips.
"Oh no Muruga, this tells me I am in deep trouble," he said pretending to be scared.
"Deep nahi, one more word and you shall be drowned in trouble," she warned pointing her finger at him dangerously.
"Nahi!" he exclaimed dramatically while clutching his ears. "Aisa mat kaho meri jaan-e-man agar tum rut jaati toh yeh devdas sukoon se nahi reh sakta," he added clutching his heart and pretending to be really hurt.
Geet frowned at his acting and shook her head. "Maan?" she called sweetly, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Hmm?" he said equally sweetly with a silly grin on his face.
"Bas bhi kariye, bahut ho gaya," she warned, her tone dangerously sweet, while caressing his arm.
"You think so?" he asked innocently.
"Ji."
"Teekhai, I mean since you are insisting," he said pretending to be reluctant. "Anyways, tum kuch der ke liye so jao then in the evening I'll take you to the temple as promised."
"Sacchi?" she asked her voice overflowing with excitement. He nodded in replying causing her to yelp and jump up and down. "Thank you!" she screamed hugging him once again and skipping to her bed. He smiled at her antics and felt satisfied to have her bubbly old self back. She was about to lie down on the bed when she turned around to look at him thoughtfully. "Maan tum aise hi impress karoge toh main ek din I love you boldoongi," she winked playfully.
Maan heartily chuckled in reply. "Toh bol do na tum ho toh meri girlfriend na," he said equally flirtatiously. "Aur ek acchi girlfriend ki nishaani yeh hai ki you tell I love you."
Geet was suddenly taken aback by his sudden declaration. For a second, she felt her stomach flip at those words. "Could he really mean it?" Her heart reasoned while her brain vehemently denied that there was nothing like that it would stupid of her to even think in those lines. She concluded he was just playing along with her and replied, "Well don't push it Maan. Agar main keh dungi toh tum hi pachaoge," she warned playfully.
"Hmm, yeh bhi toh sahi hai. Please spare me Jaanu. I would really like a lady to say I love you to me. Thank you very much," he said looking seriously at her.
"Haww, aapka matlab main ladki nahi hoon?"
"Hmm," he sighed pretening to think before continuing, "naah."
"Ada paavi! Just go before I kill you with my bear hands," she said with her eyes narrowed.
"Dekha, how you are threatening the Maan Singh Khurana aur kehti ho tum ek ladki ho," he said shaking his head ruefully. She stomped her foot, ready to pounce on him when he ran away to his room laughing loudly. She shook her head, smiling at his antics.
"He calls me nautanki aur khud dekho kaise behave karte hain," she said slipping into her bed.

and for all those people waiting for the next update here is a choti si teaser/precap/trailer 😉

"Oi Mrs. Jellyfish kahaan ja rahi ho, I am going to drive samjhi?" Maan said in a serious tone.

"O hello Mr. Jellyfish this is America, India nahi aur aap yahaan drive nahi kar sakte so now come on get in the car," she replied equally stern...
***
"Are you alright?" Maan asked with worry and concern still securely holding her in his arms. While he was about to bring her to stand when he saw her slowly flutter her eyes open. He was instantly mesmerized looking at those lovely pair of eyes staring back at him, confusion written all over them. It was almost like he had forgotten to breathe as he drowned into them. His gaze slowly shifted down to her perfectly molded nose that gave way to her delicately luscious lips. Hadn't he been told love at first sight was overrated? Probably he had not heard them right because at this moment it didn't feel a bit overrated!
