Ok, so I am a daughter, married and I also think about my parents that they are alone and they may need someone close to them etc etc...

If I was Anjie: Her complaint is that if Ranga's parents were sick, he wold dgo running to them or bring the here... has she tried to propose bringing Solanki & his wife to their house... (would they agree coming to their daughter's house to live??), if not that would be because of theri self-respect... then how can she think of crushing her husband's self-respect...

If I was Ranga: I would propose to my wife that why dont you bring your parents to our house and they can stay with us... or he can propose that she goes and sees them on weekends... or both of them visit and stay a night with them over the weekend...

well to me, these would be the soultions in real life...

1. Ranga's parents live in the village...if there was a need, am sure Anji would accomodate them and their needs...and have them live with them...

2. It is far easier for Anji and Ranga to shift to the house of the Solankis...rather than shift a patient to a completely new enviorment where he may not be comfortable...it is a matter of comfort at the end of the day;...

How does living with one's in-laws constitute loss of self respect...why can't a man accept his in laws as his parents just as a woman is expected to...if a woman's self respect is not compromised by living with her in laws, why should a man feel that way,...simply because of a social more perpetrated by a patriarchal society...and a man, a doctor at that, chooses it over his father-in-law's well-being...

As women, we should be the ones to fight against such societal notions that prevent us from standing by our parents...!

I agree with you... totally that a girl's parents should be same as a boy's parents to him... but they are not living with his parents... and remember when his parents were there... Anjie was not very happy and asked him few times when they would be leaving???? I think I would rather bring my parents to my house if need be as it will be more comfortable and easier for me to handle things...

I am sure you know "Ghar Jamai" is one of the biggest stigmas in our society and culture (even though I dont believe in it)... but, as you yourself mentioned that Ranga's parents live in the village... so if they find out or if someone in the village finds out, it will not get him & his family respect there... I care for my parents too...

It is not about them living with anji's parents or vice versa... its about Anji's hypocrisy that when his parents were there, she was not comfortable just because they were old fashioned... whereas she is ready to jump in and stay with her parents and have Ranga stay with them, because she feels comfortable there...
