Kritika
Kritika Kamra, who plays the
popular character of the bubbly
and feisty Dr Nidhi in Kuch Toh
Log Kahenge, was in town
recently. CT spoke to the self-
confessed romantic on matters
of the heart and more. Excerpts:
How has life changed after
Kuch Toh Log Kahenge?
Life has changed for the better.
Earlier, people used to know me
as Aarohi, now they know me
as Nidhi. I am glad that they have
accepted me in a new character.
The show is more popular in the
metro cities. People, mostly
women, come up to me and say
they love to watch the serial. That
is the biggest compliment for an
actor. Because it's a mature love
story, the show has many male
viewers too.
Any new projects that you are
working on apart from your
present serial?
The show takes up most of my
time. I shoot for almost 30 days a
month. I want to continue doing
good work. Love stories work
well on TV, so I am happy at
present. I really can't do drama
or kitchen sagas. I want to work
in something that I can watch as
an audience.
Are you game for film offers?
Every TV actor wants to take that
big step sometime or other. I am
waiting for the right time.
We heard Mohnish Behl left the
show because his wife was
unhappy with the chemistry
between you two?
There were no cozy scenes. It's a
very mature love story where
there is no intimate chemistry. So
I don't know which scenes she
had a problem with. He and my
mother share the same birth
year. But yes, I have learnt a lot
from him.
It is said that you try to
copy Kareena Kapoor on
screen. Is she your inspiration?
People do find similarities
between us. Maybe because we
have similar face structures or
because she has played similar
roles in the past, people relate
me to her. Every actor faces
comparisons. I don't copy her
intentionally.
After your much-publicized
break-up in January, Karan
Kundra in July said that he is
still in love with you. What do
you feel about him?
Our relation has been over for a
long time. I don't think whatever
has been reported that he said is
true. I will only believe it if he
says it. All these things are
coming up since he has a new
girl in his life. He has been lucky
enough to move on in his life. I
have moved on in a different
way. It was a mutual break-up,
there weren't any fights and we
aren't enemies. It's just that we
aren't in touch.
You have recently been linked
to Karan Wahi
Karan and I read those reports
together and had a good laugh
about it but then, get angry too.
We are just very good friends.
But yes, Karan seemed happy
with the link-up and joked that
'finally I have become important
enough to be linked by
someone.' (Laughs)
Your thoughts on marriage
I am not thinking of my marriage
at present, but yes, I do believe in
the institution. I am a romantic at
heart. With relationships falling
apart in months these days, I
want my one to be perfect,
something which lasts forever. I
want to enjoy that phase of my
life. So I have decided that I want
to take my time.
You aren't petite, yet you are
the lead of a popular show
while the size-zero ones are
not.
I have never been petite and
never been told by my producers
to be like that. TV is very real,
people relate to you. So I can't be
looking like a supermodel and
yet portray the role of a doctor.
