He is the quintessential bad man in Saarthi the popular afternoon daily produced by Asit Modi. He plays the role so well, you love to hate him. Nawab Shah plays Mansen in way that you feel the character is a mix of Duryodhan and Dhritrashtra in this modern day Mahabharat. ''My character is the villain. If there is anything that symbolizes negativity it's him. He is a rich guy involved in property hassles. He is not a good guy. That makes me enjoy the role even better,'' explains Nawab. Nowadays, his character is confined to a wheelchair and he gives you the impression that he's had a change of heart, which is not true. ''No, right now you see a slight transition but ultimately he is the bad guy, no two ways about it,'' reveals Nawab. The actor says he fell for the character when he was given a narration of the plot. ''It's a very interesting character. Very powerful. He appealed, instantly, to me. He's also a very stylish character with amazing lines who gets some really good scenes. Also, we have a great set of actors and we have bonded so well because the show has been on for quite some time now. It's so lively on the sets. The atmosphere is very friendly. It's fun working on Saarthi,'' adds Nawab. Like most TV actors, Nawab has also some films to his credit, including Farhan Akhtar's Lakshya, Escape to Taliban and Woh.. |
Now, he's quite excited about Jaaneman, a film starring Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, in which he plays the latter's brother who's very protective and possessive about his sister and this causes a rift between Preity and Salman. ''A very different kind of role,'' feels Nawab. His favorite movie experience remains on the sets of the Hrithik Roshan starrer Lakshya. ''I have known Farhan for a long time. Very professional, very organised, very efficient. I had a wonderful time,'' he recalls.
