Chapter 9

She smiled recalling how well their night had gone. Suddenly, the lights were turned on in her room. She was caught. She shut her eyes tight and turned around to face the person. Silence prevailed in the room. Her eyes still lay shut. She was scared on opening them, knowing that Sharon is standing there, prepared to eat her alive.

She started blurting, eyes still closed. "Sharon, I'm really sorry. I wanted to tell you but things were still complicated and I just couldn't risk-"

Next thing she knew, a person was laughing their butt off. And no, it wasn't Sharon's laugh. She opened her eyes and they went wide. The person in front of her was Karan! She took a sigh of relief.

"Karan!" She was glad to see him but then realized he had just let her blabber on and was enjoying. The happiness disappeared as it was replaced by anger. "Karan! You just let me make a fool of myself? How mean!"

"Sorry Kriya. You just looked so cute like that, I couldn't resist." He replied and resumed laughing as he walked up to her and gave her a quick hug. She responded with a warm welcome back hug as well.

"When did you come?" she asked.

"Just this morning. By the way, why would you enter your own house like this? I thought that was Rey's line."

She blushed at the mention of his name and looked away. She didn't have to say anything for him to understand. He was after all pulling her leg. "It's late. Sleep tight." He turned around and walked out the door. By the doorstep, he turned back around and looked at her.

"My lips are sealed." He announced and with a wink, he softly closed the door behind him. She smiled. Everything was going good. She could definitely count on Karan to keep it a secret.

Next morning, Kriya made her way down the stairs, half sleepy and eyes not even fully open, still in her pajamas. She heard Sharon on the call. "Yes' see you soon." The phone call ended.

Kriya plopped down on the couch and asked, "Who was it?"

"Good morning sleepy head. Do you realize it's almost 10? Since when do you sleep in?" Sharon started asking.

Karan walked out of the kitchen to Kriya's rescue. "Both of us were up late catching up." He added looking at Kriya. "Isn't that right?"

Kriya was fully awake when Sharon asked her the questions. Having no other escape route in her head, she quickly agreed to Karan's statement. "Yea, that's right."

Sharon let that go. "Anyway, it was Vaibhavi on the phone. She was letting us know about some party she is giving before the competition kicks in. It's tomorrow night but she was wondering if we'd help her plan it and have it ready by tomorrow. Last minutes decision and all so I agreed. Get ready. We have to go ASAP."

Kriya nodded and asked, "Lunch?"

To which, Sharon replied, "You can have your 'brunch' there itself. Now go and don't take forever in getting ready."

"Hey, taking forever is your department. Not mine sista'."

"Yea-yea, whatever."

Both went opposite directions. This was how they showed their sisterly love at times! Karan stood in between, watching them go different ways, not sure what to do himself. Since Sharon mentioned the party, he remembered that their final step of the mission was going to be finished there. But how was he supposed to tell Sharon and rest that they didn't have to carry out a plan. Kriya and Rey were already together!

But then again, he couldn't tell them as he remembered how last night; he promised Kriya that he won't say a word about it. He decided to chuck the problem and concentrate on his food. Better to stay healthy rather than get crushed between sisters rivalry/love.

While this happened at Kriya's house, something else happened over at Rey's house. He got a call from Vaibhavi that woke him up.

"Hey, good morning."

"Good morning." Rey replied drowsily.

"Oh did I wake you up? I'm sorry."

"No, that's alright. It's good you called. Else I would have slept in till after noon."

"In that case, I'm glad I did." After a smile, she continued, "The thing is; I decided upon throwing a party for all the contestants. Over the rehearsals, they've only had the pressure to see others dance and worry whether they were good enough or not. Thought this would be a good way to have them be friends and not become enemies, you know?"

Rey agreed to that. 'Yea, that's a good idea. They need to get to know each other too."

"Awesome. Can you help me out with the arrangements and decoration?"

"Yup sure. Text the address and I'll be there by lunch."

"Cool, see you then."

The phone call ended. Rey pushed aside the covers and entered his bathroom to get ready.

Rey and Kriya's car both reached the venue at the same time. They silently passed smiles to each other. Sharon and Karan came out from the car as well and Swayam came with Rey. They all had their 'informal' greetings and walked inside like a bunch of noisy teenage kids.

Slowly, the decorations started filling up. While working, Rey and Kriya stole occasional glances at each other, hiding from everyone's eyes.

Vaibhavi whispered to Sharon, "I've done my part. Your turn." Sharon nodded and Vaibhavi left. Sharon looked around to spot Kriya. She found her by the corner of the house, decorating a pillar.

Reaching there, Sharon asked the normal question. "So what are you going to wear?"

Kriya turned to look at her and turned back to look at the piece she was decorating. "I was just going to wear the red dress I wore on V-day."

Sharon grinned, knowing she would say exactly that! Kriya wasn't the type who would go crazy over picking out perfect outfits that can't be worn more than once.

"Why am I not surprised?!"

"What?"

"What 'what'? You're not going to wear that same dress again!"

Kriya rolled her eyes. "Sharon, you like wearing your outfits only once. But I'm perfectly fine with that one dress."

"No excuses this time. You're going to get a new dress."

"Yea-yea, we'll see." She went back to decorating, paying least attention to Sharon and taking the matter lightly.

Sharon pulled her hand and away from the corner. "You're going now. I want to make sure you don't make any excuses last minute such as 'I forgot' 'I was busy' etc. etc."

"Now?" Kriya exclaimed, tightening her hold and stopped Sharon from dragging her.

"Yes, now. And I won't trust you to pick out the best one. Knowing you, you'd probably take the first one you see and not look more."

Kriya giggled. "That's my sister. I love how you know me so well." She was being cunning in trying to change topics.

"Yea whatever. I love that you love that. But nothing sly this time. I know you too well to know you'd try to change topics."

"And knowing you, I won't take you with me. Or else you'd end up buying gazillion for yourself and completely ignore the actual reason for us shopping."

This time, Sharon repeated the smile, "I love how you know me so well."

Kriya gave a victory smile, patting herself. Sharon continued, "And that is why, I won't go with you." Just then, Rey passed by. She said in her head. Perfect timing. She stopped Rey. "Rey, hey, can you take her shopping? She's being stupid on wearing the same red dress she wore on Valentine's Day. I can't go or I'll buy myself clothes. And take the highway. You'll get there faster. Thanks."

And she sprinted away, without giving either of them a chance to argue. She disappeared the other way, around the corner and hides herself with Vaibhavi. They hi-5'ved each other and peeped in.

Rey motioned Kriya to walk up as if to say he's following behind. Both excited out of the place together.

Seeing their plan come true, they jumped up in excitement. Swayam and Karan came to them from behind. "Just hope our silly friends will work things out now." Swayam said. Karan nodded along with others. He was having more fun with this all than others. The only good thing that would come out of it was Kriya and Rey would get more time together, alone, instead of stealing glances.
