Sharp increase in repeat showings of Arjun

Folks,

Some of you might have seen my post of Sept 21 about the need to restore the original repeat of the regular 8 pm show of Arjun on Saturdays and Sundays at 10 pm the same day, especially since the 8 pm show clashes squarely with the hugely popular KBC. .

As suggested by ValleryRose, I posted my request by e-mail to Star Plus and today I have received a positive response from them.

More important, the number of showings of Arjun over a week have now been increased to 12. The 2 new episodes on Saturday and Sunday at 8 pm, plus daily repeats of all the 12 episodes so far at 1730 hours and 23 30 hours Monday to Friday.

The midnight shows have started only this Monday, with episode 1, followed by episode 2 on Tuesday night. So anyone wanting to catch up on the older episodes can now do so easily, at least those in India. I do not know what is happening with Star Plus in the US or elsewhere.

This is most reassuring, and I hope that it is a reflection of the perception in Star Plus that Arjun is doing well in terms of viewership.

This apart, I have been reading the forum posts with interest, and I notice that many of you are far more preoccupied with a potential Arjun-Riya love angle than with Arjun's detective expertise.

But it is the latter that holds my interest, especially his keen eye for minute details and his deductive talent - as when he finds out at once that the dead nurse in episode 3 was a leftie. Rathore is no slouch at deductive reasoning himself - in the 130 crores robbery case, he realises immediately that Dinesh is being blackmailed thru the kidnapping of his wife and child - but he does not perceive tiny clues as readily as Arjun does.

This TV serial is of course not the same thing as the all time classic of detective fiction, but at times Arjun reminds me of Sherlock Holmes, who was also a very reticent and unsociable character!

As for Arjun and Riya, I am sure he will fall in love with her eventually, but it is bound to take a long while (provided the series does well and lasts!). Right now, he is all raw and bleeding inside, and all he wants is to kill that Sikandar who murdered his Roshni. It is interesting, his wife's name, for with her passing, all the light seems to have gone out of his life.

You would hardly respect him if he forgot such a beloved wife, who was, moreover, murdered right in front of him, so easily, would you? I would not. If it takes time for Riya to get thru to him,he will be that much more worthwhile as a catch!

hi..well its a grt news dat SP is considering d requests of the viewers n showng d repeats on a regular basis..however, i feel dat late nite repeats r not vry useful 4 many of us..who cant afford to watch d show waking up dat late..
N coming to d later part of ur post, ofcourse as Arjun is basically a crime thriller, the main focuss must be on crime investigatn..but i think d viewers hv been given glimpses of a possible love track b/w the two leads of the show rite frm d 1st episode, n dats y their imaginatns hv been so sound..:Das d viewers love 'love stories'.. well i think firstly a bond shud b developd b/w arjun-riya..not of love, but of frndship n mutual respct..den only a love track shud be introduced..n the present incidents taking place will defo help arjun to mellow down a bit towards riya..ofcourse the othr way round..n wen arjun will strt expressng his feelngs, his frustratn n anger aftr his wife ws murdered, in front f riya(as a frnd), their bond will gt stronger..so, my opinion z dat the whole love track shud b introduced in a subtler way..

In all, lots of thrill n a bit of romance makes evry crime thriller a hit..n Arjun is undoubtly a grt show..d episodes are gettng better day by day..lets hope d show will achieve grt heights in future...:)

i agree with you...ARIYA will take a lot of time to happen atleast from arjun's side...the plot of the show is good and the best part is the thrill and suspense is intact till the end...arjuns detective and analitical skills are a treat to watch...will wish this show a long life...

Thanks. I am glad you appreciate my point.

However, I did not mean to suggest that the Arjun-Riya love angle is not interesting or that you should disregard it. Or that fan fiction involving the two is not worthwhile. Anything that pleases one and does no harm is worthwhile!

As for an Arjun-Riya love story, that is obviously a given, right from the first episode when her red hair clip gets stuck in his coat. Even in many pure detective stories, there is at times a romantic angle involving the detective. Some of the great British women mystery writers - like Dorothy Sayers - did that (though Agatha Christie, the Queen of crime fiction, had a determined bachelor detective in Hercule Poirot), but then the lady love was never a professional colleague.

If she is a colleague, one major problem would be that the culmination - a declaration of love on both sides, marriage etc. - can come only at the end of the series, for one cannot have 2 professionals romancing each other at the expense of the plot.

That is why hard core detective or spy thrillers have no place for the main lead to have any serious relationship. The only woman whom James Bond loved and married dies immediately afterwards, when she is shot by an enemy of his. Exactly as in Hrithik Roshan's superb Agneepath. Or in the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry series of films, where the female cop who is his partner, and whom he comes to love, is killed in a shootout with criminals.

Here Arjun has already lost a much loved wife because of the enemies he has made in his job, and the scars are still very much there. So, to start with, even if he is attracted to Riya, he would feel that to be a betrayal of his wife's memory, and would resent the attraction and Riya as well. So things will be much harder than usual for her, and she will have to learn how to manage this contradiction delicately and patiently. Let us see how things work out.

I agree completely that her first step should be to work hard to gain his respect, professionally, for he is not going to appreciate a feather-headed incompetent, even if she is very pretty. For a start, she had better learn to shoot, and shoot well!

In that 130 crore robbery case, she could easily have got him killed because of her incompetence and lack of attention to detail. When she can see that there are about 6 armed men in there, the only sensible thing for her to do would have been to retreat quietly, call Rathore and seek reinforcements, especially when she knows that she cannot shoot. But what does she do? She creeps in, and promptly lets herself be seen by the gang in the glass of the rear window of the van, thus ruining the surprise element. The rest follows, and Arjun is lucky to escape with his life.

In the end, there was very little blood and only a minor wound to her arm, so she was lucky too, for she could very easily have got killed out of sheer foolishness. Oh well, I suppose she will learn. but being a feminist of sorts, I do not like it when a professional group has one token woman and she is shown as less than competent and having to be rescued by the hero. I would have liked to her to have saved him, or the two kidnappees, from a tight corner!

But we must not despair, I am sure she will learn, and do a good job very soon. While we wait for that, we can enjoy the stories, that are going very well.

hey dear welcome to the forum...😊
i agree with u on some points n disagree somewhere too...but that what an open discussion is all about...😊
i agree that arjun's skills r less-discussed in the forum n we see more posts regarding ariya...but dear that's coz arjun's skills are as per the part of a plot we see in every new episode of the show that gets aired while ariya r more sort of a free route where we can discuss, create our own stories/fantasies...😳
i disagree with the thing this:
If she is a colleague, one major problem would be that the culmination - a declaration of love on both sides, marriage etc. - can come only at the end of the series, for one cannot have 2 professionals romancing each other at the expense of the plot.

That is why hard core detective or spy thrillers have no place for the main lead to have any serious relationship...

why can't two people have their personal n professional lives sorted out?? It would be really interesting to watch a love-story blooming in between an action-packed show...coz i think this trait makes the show more like a normal man's story rather than one SUPER HERO( batman, spiderman, superman) were enough for that😆...cops r also human so they have every rigth to love n live their life...😳 ariya will have a tough way ahead of them but their love story will be there n i dont mind marriage happening in the last epi of the series...😆 i just want a mature love story handled with care (having concern, understanding n mutual respect other than just physical proximity)

Dear mushiroxx,

Thanks. I am glad to be here.

@red.
I agree with you on this, and there is really no reason why it should not be done that way, but strangely enough, it almost never is. Not even by top class mystery writers.

I totally appreciate your last sentence, with an emphasis on "a mature love story handled with care (having concern, understanding n mutual respect other than just physical proximity)"

As for @blue, I never thought of it that way, and you do have a point there!
