Chapter 24

The next day, both Araina and Geet met to go to the orphanage together. Previous night, Geet had told Maan everything about it, after asking Araina if it was okay to tell Maan. Maan insisted upon coming as well.

Araina had a talk inside with the nun. Meanwhile, Geet had to leave for an urgent meeting and while driving back home, Araina told Maan about it all. "The nun gave me this picture." She said and handed him a picture of Yash when he was small and had come to drop Araina to the orphanage.

"She said it was with me and that is all they have. If I get lucky, I can find something on him through this picture and then maybe I am closer to meeting my brother. Unfortunately, there is nothing on my parents or my sister."

"Don't worry; I'll try founding out about your brother. You'll meet them soon."

"Thanks!" She felt glad to have such friends in her life.

Before retiring for the bed, Geet was trying to take out her necklace which she always wore. The whole day, it kept on scratching her back for some reason. She wanted to take it down but it wouldn't. It was getting difficult for her.

When Maan noticed it while looking up from this book, he walked to her, his eyes glued to hers as they looked at each other through the mirror. Seeing him come towards her, she became a bit conscious and her heart started fluttering.

As he brushed her hands over hers, she pulled hers away to let him hold the necklace. He moved her attention to the necklace while her eyes stayed glued to him. His hands would occasionally rub her back as he struggled to unhook it. Finally, it came off! It had gotten rough due to the long years. Therefore, it took time to come out.

He handed it to her and spoke, '"The hook is getting rusty. I'll get it fixed tomorrow." He turned to leave when she called out his name. "Maan?" He turned for her to continue. She thought about it but then shook her head. "Nothing… Good night.' She changed her sentence and turned to put the necklace away safely.

She cursed herself for staying mum again. She had thought a lot over the days and had decided to let him know about her feelings towards him. Somewhere, she knew the feeling was mutual but just couldn't come up to say them. Lately, she had been so involved in other things that they weren't spending much time together either.

She then remembered that his birthday was two days away. She smiled, a quick plan forming in her head. She would tell him then! It was the perfect day and she knew just when the perfect occasion would be to tell him!

The next day, as college let out, Arjun waited for Araina to come out of class so he could drop her home. Araina then invited him over for coffee and he gladly agreed to it. As they sipped coffee, he admired her for a while and then finally decided to speak up.

"Araina?" (Yes, he knew about being adopted)

She raised her eye brows as if to ask 'Yes?' while she took a sip.

"I like you…" her eyes went wider. "I really like you…"

"I- uh" She was short on words.

"Did I say something wrong?" he quickly asked, hoping it won't spoil their friendship.

"No- no of course not… Just that I hadn't expected you to say it now! God, finally you say it!" she said with a grin.

"You knew?!" he was surprised.

"Not really… But I hoped that what we shared was more than friendship… And yes… I really like you as well."

"So what's say? A date? It's not like we don't know each other already… still…"

"I would love that." She interrupted him, smiling at the fact that he was being nervous while asking her out.

Geet was working through home so she hadn't met Yash just yet. If she had, she would have recognized him much easily. After all, they both were older and there couldn't be much difference in appearance.

Maan had gotten an artist to work on the picture to convert it into a face that would be older. They had a vague figure and it raised a suspicion in Maan's mind about Yash. He told Araina about it and told her to meet him, just to see if she felt the same.

That day, he was told that Geet would be coming to office so he could finally meet her. He saw Meera walk in. Over the days while Geet stayed home, Meera would attend the office and she and Yash had gotten to know each other much better! He had even shared his past with her, knowing he wanted to tell her and not want to keep a secret from her. She whole heartedly supported him and gave him her sympathy.

As she walked by his cabin, she passed him a smile and quickly stopped by, "Lunch today? At around 1:30? I have a meeting right now but will be free then."

"Sure," he nodded.

Annie walked towards Geet's office as she was feeling nervous about meeting Yash. She didn't know Geet wasn't in the office today. She walked in on Yash.

"I'm sorry… I'm looking for…" she stopped on her tracks as she took a better look at Yash. Even she could see the connection between the young boy's picture and him. She changed her sentence to, "Are you Yash?"

"I am…" He replied and watched her expression go from pleasant to shock. "Are-Are you okay? You seem disturbed."

"No…Yea… I'm good. Maan?"

"They'll be here soon. Why don't you wait for them? I'll get you something to drink."

"Thanks." Annie said and he walked out. She set down, grasping in everything. She needed some time to process things. He looks so much like bro. But the name change… I have no solid proof either. Maan! Where are you? She took out her phone to dial his number but it kept on coming as busy. She texted him to meet her quickly and looked around. He saw Yash's bag and even though she knew it was wrong, she felt as if she had no other choice.

She forwarded towards it and opened it. Good for her, there was no heavy lock and she could easily tamper with it. Going through it in fast pace and with hesitation, there were only files and nothing else that would stand out. Going through one file after another, she was losing hope. Just then, a photograph fell out of one of the files when she was about to put them all back in the bag.

It was the same photo that she did. Her eyes went wide. Shock? Happiness? It was a mixed feeling. It just proved to her that he in fact was his brother. But how was she to confront him? Just then, he came up behind her and she turned.

She had tears coming up in her eyes. She had finally found her brother! She ran up to him and hugged him tight. He was totally confused with this action of hers. He didn't even know her name or anything else about her. She only said one word as she wept on his shoulder. "Bhai." As he heard the word, the world seemed to stop for him as well.

He was shocked and surprised to see her. He was in front of her little sister. He cried as well. Who wouldn't after meeting his little sister after these many years?! As much as he wanted to stay away from them, he knew she just couldn't now. Somehow, she had found him! He had always hoped for this day to come. He couldn't help but cry upon seeing his younger sister grown up and calling him 'Bhai.'

Being mature, he let go of her and held her cheeks. He smiled with teary eyes and left from there… just like that! All she could do was stay like that and not think straight as to why he left.

Maan was busy driving the car while Geet sat in the passenger seat. She enjoyed the time they spent together but also kept on rewinding in her head how to confront Maan about her feelings.

"Maan… I was thinking… Are you free tonight?"

"Yea, what's up? He asked stopping in between as he was humming a song.

"I was just thinking of going out for dinner tonight? Lately, it's been an over load of work and we haven't got much time together." She started explaining.

"Hey-hey Geet… You don't have to explain anything dear. Tonight's a date!" He cut her off and flashed his grin. At first, she smiled, then narrowed her brows to wonder what he meant by 'tonight's a date' and then the conscious vs reality phase took over as she tried to make sense of his words.

She was shaken back to reality when they reached the office. Walking in, they saw Annie crying. They rushed to her. While she hugged her, Maan took the photo's from her hand and nudged Geet. She saw them as well and seemed to understand what could have happened here. She asked, "Yash?" And Annie did not reply back. It confirmer her theory and hugged her tight.

She said, hoping to sound positive, "He is probably not ready to accept anyone. Don't take it personally. He did see you after a long time. Maybe it's a lot for him to take in as well. See if time helps?"

Annie just nodded without saying a word and left. Geet could not see her walk away like this. "We have to do something…" she told Maan. He gave her a one side hug as he could see she was disturbed, somewhere thinking about her own situation, he convinced her. "We will… don't worry."
