You feel that aborting a child for the sake of a career/ fun is not acceptable...

Btw, what show is this...Indian TV has a show like this...am shocked..how will the saas-bahu crowd watch it?

Fully agree,,,,I think we cannot generalize here...

Teen pregnancies or pregnancies that are outcomes of rape fall into another category altogether...

I don't know if you have read a book called Freakonomics...it claims that statistics reveal that the crime rate came down in certain states of the US post the legalization of abortion,...since teen mothers, who were unable to cope with child bearing and child rearing, did not have to go through with the choice..

Yes, dropping a pregnancy because your career plans are going to be affected does seem a bit cold blooded...although there was a show on DD many years ago where a woman aborts her pregnancy because it interferes with a huge career opportunity...and this causes great friction between her and her husband...this is why I wondered if the husband has a right to an opinion since it is ultimately the woman who bears the biological responsibility of child bearing!

Yes Sujatha I have read that book but what ever they claim the reality is another issue. No i haven't seen this dd show. I only watch KTLK and have seen some episodes of satyamev jayathe.

iam all for the choice .. most people consider it a duty of a woman to be a mother .. i say why?
like the rest things in life where she has a say ,why cant we have a say in this?
this reminds me of a book called the hindi bindi club , it was abt some indian american families ...one of the 2nd gen indian american woman marries a american guy and the couple decides not to have a child..coz they dont want one ... simple ..and the family respects their decision..

DINKs are very common these days, Deepa...and if a couple decides not to have a child, then the choice is theirs and needs to be respected,...no two ways about that...the problem arises when there is an accidental conception...what happens then...if there is agreement on the decision, then it is still fine...but if there is conflcit over the decision, the problem starts then!
