But do I think reel can have a positive affect on real life relationship, probably. Some people may argue that they learn how be a better partner by seeing Gopi's never ending love and caring for Ahem.

And I guess if you're a "westerner" and watch these shows, it may teach you some old time values, so there are positive aspects to watching reel drama.

However, one must always make the distinction bwt the two and know that there is a huge line between the two worlds.

The two worlds can influence each other but reel can never dominate real and become all consuming to a person, cause at the end of the day, these are just serials with end dates, and actors are just playing roles, if offered a better show tomorrow they will take it.

Just like if another serial comes along tomorrow I will watch it...call me fickle, but these things hold little importance to me. At the end of the day the people who love me are more important to me than people in telly world that I will never meet and who do not know I exist.
Sorry for rambling on 😆

Look. The fact is real life sucks. Forever love is a myth, true love is a passing or non existent phase and serials of love are just fantasy. As long as you can distinguish between the two you should be alright. Is it worth getting your knickers in a twist?

Real life does not suck! Real life is awesome! Forever love is a reality! True love is eternal!

The problem is we allow ourselves to be corrupted by the fantasy that we see on tv! And that is when knickers start getting knotted!

TFS this nice article shaun.Awesome comment by everyone above. I have no problem I can clearly see the difference between reel and real life. In real life itself each one is different and there are so much things to take care in that case we can't compare our own life with some fantasy stories. At the same time its nice to see something different from from our real life for a break form daily routine and for entertainment naive girl growing in her confident, loving, caring and supportive husband & mom-in-law, traditional joint family which mostly we can't see nowadays. SNS is the only hindi serial i watch as like the story and characters of this show. Indeed my life is so much better then this serial 😊

Thanks for this insightful article and post.

There I thought I was escaping from reality for 20 minutes during the week days.

Hope we know we live in a toxic society. It is the choices we make that makes us who we are. Wrong choices takes you down paths that will have adverse effects on your lives and lessons will be learnt along the way. The resultant is that regret sets by which time can never be bought back.

Wrong forum :) neither the show has enough romantic scenes nor is the forum filled with hormonal people who act like teenagers who claim that the onscreen character makes their heart beat faster than their real life partners.

Shaun, nice article made complete sense😛. My hubby says this explains where I get my dose of insanity from lol form unrealistic soapy world. Kokila's kitchen & Gopi's tears and Anandi's tongue lashing & Shiv's support helps me make my butter chicken better coz I over butter it watching them😆😆 Actually watching them on screen I have no time for wallowing in self pity & reflecting on my pains. Oh ! Thx God for unrealistic reel life that makes me feel I have a realistic good real life 😉

Xari, I know u don't believe in love but I do & I feel... Love is not a desire or a feeling of give and take, instead it is a pool of all emotions where you just need to give without expectation of returns. Believe me this is exactly what I do in my real life. I know of quite a few people who are despondent and even sarcastic about love ' its depth, power, and durability and I know they have valid reasons. There are circumstances when a love affair may not turn out what it were expected to be 'tendency towards violence, lies about extra-marital affair, or illegal activity in a partner which is naturally unacceptable

But I feel sometimes in order to have an incredible life, we have to work hard. Everyone has a slightly different approach to beating themselves into submission so they work hard and "make their own luck"...just my 5cents

Gosh! I was in such a foul mood yesterday.Ouch But it has passed now and I shall behave myself 😃. If one is lucky there is a chance of finding love out there. I guess you need to look for it in the right places.
But as for Shaun's inital post, there is truth in there and that's why they also singled out Mills and Boon for creating a too perfect scenario of love that derails relationships. But just as you need to live in the real world you also need to get soppy once in a while. Something I managed to lose sight of yesterday.
