Aap Ki Khatir May Open Decent , KANK Sets New Records In India And Overseas
By: Abid This Friday will see the release of Dharmesh Darshan's Akshaye-Priyanka-Dino starrer 'Aap Ki Khatir' and Anees Bazmi's fungus laden ('No Entry' and 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha') Govinda-Mahima starrer 'Sandwich' . Of the two 'Aap Ki Khatir' is expected to be the front runner and fare decently( comparatively) , though lack of a perceptable hype about movie or its music ( surprising for a Darshan movie) will go against the movie . But who knows . It may just pull through like some of Darshan's previous movies .

Opening of 'Ahista Ahista' and 'Kathputli' :- The Abhay-Soha starrer , released at 41 theatres of Bombay ( thru Goldie Films) had a poor opening . Outside of Bombay the opening ranged from poor to dull . The other release of last week , the Milind-Mink-Yukta starrer 'Katputtli' , released at 15 cinenmas of Bombay ( thru R.M. Ahuja and company) had a very poor opening . Outside of Bombay the story was more horrific . Verdict :- Though well made and different , the fate of 'Ahista Ahista' is sealed by the poor start and lack of drama . 'Katputtli' will find it difficult to complete more than a few shows . 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' : Despite all the misinformation campaign about the falling collections , the fall was seen only on the Thursday ( 7th day) , that is after the 'Janamashtmi' holidays , which was also the first working day ! Once the collections were declared on Saturday , it became clear that the multiplexes had recorded mindblowing collections while single screens were not the same level and expectedly ( given the theme and setting) less . However once again 'rejected at single screens' turned out to be another lie and we have marked out the single screens to highlight the same (we have mentioned ii brackets below). The movie fetched extraordinary shares in Bombay( more than 6 crores) , East punjab , Delh-U.P. , West Bengal , Rajasthan and South . So what is left? Parts of flood ravaged Central India and Bihar ! Needless to add that 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' is phenomenal in the Overseas and has smashed all previous( week 1) records . We must add that the second weekend from Chennai is already in ( 21 lakhs) and it shows just a 30 percent fall , as compared to the first . What must be kept in mind is that a 50 percent fall is normal with such an oversaturated release in week two . First week collections : 18,61,74,032 from 230 cinemas First week total (calculated) : All India 28.20 cr - 28.70 cr Overseas - US-$2,383,517 , UK - $2,708,087 and Australia - $342,042 Verdict :- Given the selling prices ( including print and publicity) and the the new first week record collections , 'KANK' is already an above average in India and will get to a hit status next week and even higher in the coming weeks and we will update , as per our practice . The movie is a superhit in the Overseas and is on way to setting a new all time record for a Bollywood release . 'Omkara' :- Vishal Bhardwaj's Ajay,Saif, Viveik, Kareena , Bipasha starrer continues to get decent collections from the two biggest territories Bombay and Delhi-U.P. and just from Bombay city ( excluding Thane district) the collections are nearly 3.50 crores . In its third week 'Omkara' collected 1,29,46,784 from 99 reported cinemas , for a total of about 20.50 crores in three weeks from India . In the UK it has obtained $501,441 and in the US $1,058,312 .
Verdict :- Given the steep selling prices in India and the collections upto the third week 'Omkara' is a below average to average , while it is a good success in the Overseas (hit in US) .
