This party track was never going to work for me, and it didn't. It is very hard to show a good party on screen where the extras look like guests and not like badly dressed extras. And where people have personalities rather than no speaking role pay cheques by the day.
Notwithstanding the awkwardness of that, we had a pretty decent tango cum waltz going on, even though i wished Madhu displayed the aggressive posture and expression of the tango. It would have added the spice to her reaction to the humiliation. That being said, i did not notice RK at all, which means he was a very good ballroom frame, and Madhu must have been doing SOMETHING right.
I felt really sorry for her being left in the middle of that circle of odd, spineless , leering guests. And i literally could not think how I, if placed in that position, would react to this ritual piss- taking.
Madhu stood her ground however, and the subtle shift in DD's face to show her resolve shows her excellent acting credentials.
The kiss, or lack of, worked for me. Surprising, you say. But this count-down to a public 'taking', almost a symbolic rape, was much more effective when it was left incomplete. It had served its purpose; the actual act itself would have added nothing to the humiliation, and perhaps somehere RK knows he is playing with fire. He is uncertain not of Madhu's reaction, but of his own.
The RK/Madhu scene in the bedroom was excellent. Short, brief and with so much going on that was beyond the words being spoken. RK's certainty of his appeal to women, and to Madhu in particular, Madhu's own confusion to the strange reaction of her body to her husband's proximity ( knowing her this is the first time she would have had such intimacy with a man), and at her fury and frustration at the insults heaped on her so publically was brilliantly shown by DD. then she pushes against RK's restraining arm. Every single time before this she has managed to push past him. This time it remains as firm and unmoving as a rebar. And suddenly, Madhu realises the sheer physical power he has over her. A power that she can't beat with spirited banter. And that, along with everything else, breaks her.
I'm never going to be a big fan of SADDOji but DD was very good in that scene. Rapidfire dialogue, perfect.
Kukku and co were v good foils as ever, and showed their acting chops. And as their role was less contrived than yesterday, it was one hundred percent more effective.
And look at RK's face from the precap. Way to go below the belt, Saddoji! BUT LOOK AT THAT FACE! It is naked, stripped of all that smirking and posing that is RK. It is a face of a frightened boy. Take a bow, VD.
