I hope you all enjoyed the VM above - I personally LOVED it...

It all started with 300 Rupees 28

First: I was part of the Hall of Fame of IPKKND this week – Number 9 – TOTALLY SHOCKED! YAY!

Readers: Too many things I have to say today. I was overwhelmed by the response I received from the last update. I received most PMs in the history of IASW300R about the last cliffhanger. I had NO idea this FF affected you guys in such a way. The response itself on the thread was mind boggling. So many pleads, so many threats, so many requests, so many heart attacks, so many hyper ventilations, and even some emerging murderers!

Also – almost all the response said 'KC WAY' after the Promo Update - LOVE you guys for that! Thanks for trusting my writing.

I don't know if it's your love for this FF or your love for Arshi – whatever it is – I am flattered.

Silent Readers: I have informed many of the Fate-Mate readers (my other FF) that I will be filtering my buddy list, PLEASE PM me if you are too shy to write something on the thread. I NEED TO KNOW who is reading and this FF and who isn't. That's my project this weekend. So Please – write to me.

New Readers: If you want to receive future updates, please PM me – ALONG with sending a buddy request. I already have pending list right now and can't/won't add anyone until I filter my current list. So just hang in there. I will confirm when I am done filtering.

Appy_Indy: Thanks for your wonderful Promo VMs. I appreciate your work.

Ananya123: Other than being a keen reader of IASW300R/ stalker, thanks for making this wonderful VM for this update. I appreciate your work. And thanks for informing me about Hall of Fame. You made my day.

Hakunamatata: Thanks for the excellent/creative response to previous update. I LOVED it!

Peda: Hopefully you will feel better after today's update.

I always wanted to meet one of my readers and I finally got a chance to meet one of my loyal readers of this FF. You know who you are. I won't mention your name here since I haven't asked you about it yet but I was just so happy that I wanted to mention it here on the thread. YAY!

A reader's response from last chapter takes the cake - by Reniji66 –

"So are you telling me she has made all the demands, kept him at bay, refused to go public and SHE IS THE ONE WHO HAS A CHILD WITH SOMEONE ELSE???? What the...! Please tell me there is more to this. If she was with someone else, Arnav deserved to know that no matter how poorly he treated her. Also why keep the secret if they said the past was the past??? Was she attacked? Did she have a one night stand?? Whatever the case, Arnav is going to be devastated. It just seems there was ample time now to tell him the truth, regardless of the circumstances. Why did she keep it a secret. I hope he NEVER goes public with their relation and he too moves on. It's not the circumstances of the child, it's the secret. It seems like such a betrayal after becoming intimate with him again and giving him hope.

Can you tell I'm not happy??? "

Reniji66 - Itna Pyaar? I LOVED your response. The frustration, the anger, the irritation, the emotion. All of it!

Well…..finally here is the much WANTED update!

I hope you all like the update…….

I hope you are not disappointed and hopefully you will be able to breathe again……

Read it, LIKE it, and please do leave a comment.

My thread was full with – KC What the hell do you mean by She is not your daughter?

Kiski Bachhi hai vo?? KISKI??

Whose daughter is she? Whose?

Well…..Let's find out! Enjoy the ride!

It all started with 300 Rupees 28 Part A

Another level of silence took over that already silent hallway.

All they could hear was the beeping sound coming from inside that room, where a little angel was fighting her life.

Meanwhile two people outside that beeping room just stood staring at each other – dumbstruck.

He heard what she just said. She is not your daughter.

She couldn't believe she finally let it all out. She is not your daughter.

She was waiting for him to react, to say something, to ask something, to say anything.

He was waiting for an explanation following that shocking and confusing statement.

One silence, two people, different pains, much confusion, and no words.

That's how they stood there, just staring at each other, only god knows for how long.

Until a voice broke their silence.

"Are you Khushi? Patient's mother?" She turned to see the nurse, who was there with some type of file in her hand. She walked towards Khushi and said "ma'am, can you please come to the office, we just needed some papers signed by the parent. This way please."

She took Khushi with her, leaving him alone, hanging in the middle of that silent hallway, with too much noise inside his head.

They both walked inside the office, the nurse gave Khushi a stack of papers to sign. She started filing it out, one by one, signing it, one after another, then all of sudden her hand halted. She looked at that one piece of paper – Patient's Consent Form.

Khushi; She was a woman who had seen a LOT in her short life.

She lost her parents at such a young age, she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, she was engaged to a vile human, she was forced into marrying someone for no fault of her own, for six months, to save her own sister's marriage, she was mistreated, she was manhandled, she was pushed, pulled, yelled at, abandoned once again by her family, misunderstood by everyone, anything and everything one could go through for no fault of her own.

She had left everyone. She had left her cocoon. She had left the love of her life. She had left what she once lived for.

Her family, her husband, her life, her heart……

EVERYTHING!

But she had never given up. She was a strong person. A very strong person. Maybe not physically, but emotionally and mentally.

She was living her life, her way. She had dealt with life as it came to her. Good or bad. Mostly bad. There were very few good things that had ever happened to her. Ever. She could literally count all the positive things that had ever happened to her without reaching two digit numbers, easily.

Yes. That's how her life had been. Full of pain and tortures.

Yet, she had never given up.

She thought she was very strong. If anything, her life after leaving Raizada Mansion had made her even stronger. She could deal with anything.

But how strong did she really have to be to sign anything like that about her daughter. After all that she had endured, she never thought that there was something that could shake her more.

And this was it.

Just looking at that one sheet with the title – Patient Consent Form - terrorized her. She didn't want to read it, she didn't want to see it, she didn't want to understand it, she just wanted to rip it apart. She wanted to go somewhere and hide. All of her. Somewhere safe with her daughter. A place so safe that no sickness, no bad news could break in. NOTHING.

Just her and her daughter.

She wanted her cocoon back. All of it. And remain in it, forever. The outside world was terrifying. It was too much for her to handle right now.

She closed her eyes. And saw his face. As if he was actually standing right in front of her. Just few inches away from her. Her husband, and she remembered his face - who just looked at her with so many questions.

Why did his face remind her of that horrendous night when she got married? Was he really looking at her like that or it was her misunderstanding?

Did he have that accused look or was it her blurriness with all the crying that kept her from clearly reading his face?

Was it her own guilt that didn't let her understand his facial expression or was he really being an ASR again?

Did he really have that face or was it her imagination? She wasn't too clear on that.

She didn't know. All she knew that she might be alone, once again, dealing with the worst possible situation of her life. Her daughter's life.

And there was that nurse, who was sitting right in front of her, within her arm distance, who looked at her with too much information on her face.

She didn't want any of this right now. None of this. She didn't want to sign anything anymore. Nor did she want to discuss anything.

All she wanted was her daughter to be safe and sound.

She looked around to find someone. But she couldn't find anyone who would take that burden off of her.

She got up, pulled her chair back, and stepped back. Away from that scary piece of paper, away from the nurse. She just wanted to get out of that room, and that damn hospital. That's it!

Part B Continues……

It all started with 300 Rupees 28 Part B

She looked at the nurse who was patiently waiting for her to finish all the paperwork. Khushi finally said "what are you doing here? Why aren't you with her? Why did you leave her alone? Do you really think all this is important right now? These papers? Please go and check on her, please leave."

She asked the nurse to leave but instead, she herself left the room.

And she walked herself back to the waiting area chairs and sat there. Her foot tapped in a rhythm. She covered her face with her two hands and stayed like that. Not crying, just hiding herself from any bad news. Protecting herself from this life that has always taken everything away from her.

The nurse followed her, saw her breaking down on that chair, so she finally walked to him.

She asked "are you related to the patient?"

Both of them heard that question. Khushi's head snapped. She looked up to see him. Then she looked at the nurse in irritation. She couldn't take all this intrusion. She got up, her feet were walking faster than normal. She looked at the nurse and growled "is she conscious now?"

The nurse remained silent. She yelled again "IS SHE?" The nurse replied "Look, I understand that you are going through rough time right now but you have to understand that……"

She interrupted him…..

"I just told you, don't tell me anything other than the fact that she is up and recovered. Please leave and make sure she wakes up."

She said with enough rage in her tone and pleads in her voice, simultaneously.

That's all she said and went back to the chair. Leaving both of them shocked.

The nurse finally left, realizing it's pointless to talk to Khushi right now. And she wasn't even sure if Arnav was anywhere in the picture or not.

How would the poor nurse know anything when he himself didn't know anything.

Nurse's question repeated in his mind Are you related to the patient?

What kind of day was this? He woke up today, just like any other day. He never ever imagined that this ordinary day would turn out to be like this. First the office chaos, then that phone call, then the biggest shock of his life – A child.

He was just a married man when he woke up this morning and a husband in the office. But by noon he thought he was a father.

And by afternoon, he wasn't even sure if he was a father. What the hell was going on? He thought.

What did she mean by she is not your daughter?

The only thing he could think right now was how life is a bitch.

Especially when it came to him.

Every single time when he thought his life was back on track – BOOM – another thing waiting.

The day he thought he will propose to Khushi, the very first time, life couldn't have played a worse joke than that. Not only had he misunderstood that it was the love of his life who was involved in something so disgraceful, he also found out the real deal about his brother in law.

Then his confrontation with that treacherous man, the lies, the deceit, the trick, the deception, the trap; every single word he had told him about Khushi was a lie. Just plain simple lie. There was never one day where he didn't curse himself for not asking Khushi anything before going to that sham of a man.

And just when he had thought he would tell his sister everything, the pregnancy news had come.

Then what followed after that was the worst mistake of his life, forcing her to marry him.

What kind of life did he actually have?

Right after his parents had died, he had been the pillar of strength for his family. Standing up for everyone. Becoming the rock shield for every single person in that house. From being a provider to a protector.

But that one person who was the best thing that ever happened to him ever was misused by him – that's the kind of life he had.

He couldn't have had any worse than this. But then he met Khushi again. All the hopes, dreams, desires, needs, wants, everything that he ever wanted from his life with Khushi, it all came back to him. He couldn't have let another chance slip by. He had to make it work, no matter what. And he did. He did everything he could to rectify his mistakes.

But now what? Where was he supposed to be in the middle of all this? What was the meaning of all that?

Then he looked at her again. She was just sitting on the chair, her knees curled up, her face resting on her folded knees. She was blankly looking into the thin air.

What was she thinking? He didn't know. Why didn't she say anything after that, he didn't know that either.

As he had mentioned earlier to her in his text, he was actually afraid of knowing what made her so upset.

She had already mentioned that the child fighting her life inside that beeping room wasn't his daughter.

Now what?

All his mind could think was – if she is not his daughter than she can't be her daughter either, not biologically at least.

That's what he wanted to convince himself. He would be just a fool to ever doubt her again. He couldn't have repeated the history again. He couldn't even think of imagining the worst. No. Not all over again. If the child was Khushi's daughter, that meant……no, he couldn't even go that route.

That's just not possible.

My Khushi would never do that.

My? She was mine only for six months. And then she was gone. She wasn't mine for these long years. But does that mean that she could have been involved with…….NO – he still couldn't tolerate that side of the story.

According to his little or not so little male ego – Khushi couldn't be physically involved with anyone other than him. That's just not her, she will never do that. She could never do that.

As much as his optimistic part of the brain wanted to convince him – she could never do that, his pessimist part of brain kept yelling – you weren't there for her for that long, you had no right on her, she could have done anything she wanted. She was allowed to. She wasn't bound to anything or anyone.

NO – his husband mind screamed – that's not possible. She is my wife, she was still my wife when she left everything behind. We are not divorced and unless and until we are not divorced, she is still my wife.

So what? Screamed the human part of his mind – our marriage was a six month contract. Six month ended – she left. The marriage was officially over.

Why was his life so complicated?

Why did I ever think that I make and mend my own life? Why did I ever think that I have control over everything around me?

Look at me right now – I have absolutely NO control over whatever what's happening to me right now.

One minute I find out that I have a daughter, next minute I find out that she is not my daughter, then whose daughter is she and why is Khushi her mother?

How is Khushi her mother?

All he could do was asking her and that's what he did.

He moved his heavy steps towards her. He carefully took the seat right next to her, on her left and spoke "are we going to talk about what you just said?"

That's all he said. And waited for her answer. She was quiet for a bit and then said "there is no other option than to talk about it."

She paused, and then continued again "I just wish there was a better way or time to talk about it. But as the situation is right now, we will have to talk right now, I want to tell you everything but……."

He asked "but what?"

She replied "can you wait until she is fine again? I can't even think straight right now, forget about talking. I just…….need……..some time……..please…….."

Another tear rolled out of her eyes, she quickly wiped it and said "I am sorry, I know you probably want to know everything, I just…….I just hope……she is okay……I can't………"

And she covered her face with both hands again and sobbed. He didn't say anything. He just got up when she held his hand and said "please don't leave me alone here, I am scared. Please stay."

All his negative thoughts, all the questions, all the pessimism, everything just disappeared, yet again, with that one touch, with that one voice, and for that one person.

He sat back down, held her hand and said "I wasn't leaving."

She couldn't control that one warm drop when she heard his gentle words. How much she wanted to crush into him, but she didn't know why she became so hesitant all of sudden.

However much she wanted to be shielded within those strong arms, she kept herself aware of the fact that she still has to talk to him, tell him everything. Everything.

Her hand was shaking in his, her eyes didn't move from his, and those beeps didn't fail to remind her that her daughter was still struggling with her life inside that dark room.

He let her hand go, he wiped her tears, dried her face, and then gently pulled her in. Holding her shaking body, trying to calm her.

She rested her tired mind, tired body, tired heart, on his chest, and felt his arms embracing her….

She had found her cocoon again.

She couldn't help but wonder….

When did he become like this? She still hadn't told him anything yet, about the child. But instead of forcing me to tell him right then and there, he is still comforting me.

Part C Continues……

It all started with 300 Rupees Part C

At this point, he decided to remain quiet. Merely because he had absolutely no idea what to say anymore. He couldn't ask anything right now, she wasn't in the right mind frame to talk, he definitely wasn't going to leave her like that, but at the same time he didn't like the fact that he still didn't know the whole story.

She was more than happy that he was there for her. That's all she needed right now, him. Being there for her, comforting her, and protecting her.

Another voice broke their peaceful hug.

"Khushi, here are all her stuff." She broke the embrace, she moved back, and looked at Naina. Then she took the bag from her and frantically looked for something inside the bag. She took out a plush purple teddy bear and gave it to Naina and said "please take this to her, she could be looking for this right now, she doesn't go anywhere without this."

Both of them looked at her with surprise. Naina spoke "But Khushi, she is'''.she won't'''know''." Khushi interrupted in rather harsh voice "Just take it to her." Naina took the bear and said "I will take this to her but she doesn't need this, she needs you in there, I don't know what you are still doing here. I have never seen you neglect her like that, she in that stupid room waiting for you and you rather sit here and cry about it? I am sure this one teddy bear will replace you, her mother. Right?"

Khushi looked at Naina's angry face. Then she turned to see his face. Then she looked at Naina again. Out of nowhere, she snatched the purple bear from her hand and said "leave me alone."

He had never seen her talk to anyone like that. NO ONE. He obviously understood that she was going through lot of emotional turbulence right now. For her to talk to someone like that was a huge deal. He needed her to calm down and there was only one way he could do that.

He got up, held her hand and said "you need to see her, let's go." And he just pulled her from that chair, without waiting to hear her response and continued walking to that room. He opened the door and saw the nurse standing by the monitor and said "nurse, will you please give us some alone with the''..patient?"

The nurse nodded and quietly left the room. He pulled her in'..

But now what? What was he supposed to say?

He looked at Khushi and then at the bed'..

There lay a little angel, hooked to too many wires''.

Her forehead was bandaged with still some red spot showing vividly on that white''

Her eyes were obviously closed'.

He couldn't even see her face properly due to the oxygen mask covering most it''

He didn't even know this child but he still couldn't look at her any longer, he turned to see Khushi, whose face was already wet and red.

She let his hand go and walked to her child. She placed the teddy bear right next to her with her shaky hands. And sat on the chair right next to her, sobbing harder now.

She held her hand, carefully and said "I am sorry baby."

She kissed her lifeless hand and held it by her face. She said'.

"She told me that she didn't want to go to school this morning, I wish I would have just let her stay home, I don't even know what happened. I should ask Naina, she was here when the school brought her here. What is wrong with me? I don't even know how all this happened. What kind of mother am I? How could I let her stay here all alone? I am such a horrible mother. Naina was right. What was I doing outside? How could I just let her go through all alone'.?"

She felt his hand on her back''.

The beep got louder, she stopped talking. She looked at the monitor and panicked. She released her daughter's hand and stepped back, still panicked by the speeding sound of it. He quickly pressed the HELP button for the nurse to come in. The nurse came in with the doctor this time.

He made sure he held onto her hand the whole time, tightly.

The doctor spoke "please wait outside." He just nodded and pulled her outside.

She just pushed her back on that wall, right outside the room. She closed her eyes while her tears continued wetting her face. Naina saw both of them again. She didn't know what exactly he knew and what he didn't. The last thing she knew about their progress was that Khushi was still to inform him about everything. But after what happened today, she didn't know that status on their situation.

She noticed him holding Khushi's hand. She walked to him and said "I am assuming you are Arnav?" He looked at her with partial surprise and partial confusion. She spoke again "You are her husband, right?" He turned to see Khushi's face, not knowing if he should answer to that. Was Naina not part of the 'whole public' deal? He didn't know. She released her hand out of his hold and wiped her tears, turned to see his confused face and said "she knows everything. Yes Naina, he is my husband."

She spoke again "Naina, what happened in the school? How did she fall?" Naina replied "her teacher said that they were going down the stairs to go outside for recess but somehow she slipped and''all this happened. She was bleeding profusely when they brought her here, it was blood all over her clothes, she was already unconscious when she got here, but the doctors were able to stabilize her in timely manner, with all the stiches and stuff. I am sure she will be fine. You know she is a fighter. She will be fine, I am sure."

She walked forward and hugged Khushi. Khushi broke down again and said "I will never be able to forgive myself if something happens to her. She was telling me she didn't want to go to school but I forced her to. I should have just let her stay at home. I''what was I thinking''I was too preoccupied about going to work and''..meeting him''.I am a bad mother Naina. I didn't even listen to her''I was in my own little world''.what if something happens to her Naina?"

Naina moved her back and replied in a firm manner "Khushi, listen, it's not your fault. She doesn't want to go to school every fifth day, it's not like she was saying it for the first time. Clam down! This has nothing to do with you. For how long are you going to feel guilty about everything around you? It's NOT your fault. Not everything is your fault. Stop taking the blame for everything. And far as she is concerned, we both know, she will fight and make through it. Do you really think we can be free from her non-stop chatter and questions, just like that?"

They both smiled.

The door opened, all three head turned to see the doctor. Khushi's smile vanished all of sudden. All her nerves that had been calmed few minutes ago, suddenly started ticking again. That too, pretty fast. She saw the doctor approach her'..

That could only mean two things; her daughter was recovering or her health deteriorating.

She involuntarily held his shirt, out of panic, for support'..

He saw her pale face, her shaking hand which had clenched his shirt so tightly, he quickly wrapped his arms around her shoulder and held her tight''

The doctor came to her and said "you are patient's mother?"

She looked at Arnav first, then back at the doctor and said "yes" in a very dreadful voice'..

The doctor replied "her body is responding as of now but she is still not conscious, as far as I can tell, she should be able to wake up, the earlier the better. We don't need to worry about it right now, but if she doesn't wake up within twenty four hours that might not be a good sign'."

That's all he said, looked at her sympathetically and walked away''.

Her body fell on his chest, she still clenched onto his shirt and said "please tell me she will be fine."

He saw her shattering again and then he looked at Naina, who was so brave few minutes ago and now she was as pale as she could be.

He held her in his arms and said "she will be fine."

That's all he said. She heard that. She heard him assuring her about all this. She knew he was still unaware of everything and he was still doing all this for her. She couldn't take all this anymore. She moved back and told Naina "why don't you go home and rest? I will be fine. If I need anything, I will let you know. Thanks."

She got it. The unspoken words. She replied "Okay, call me if you need anything."

And she left. He looked at Khushi with this sudden change in behavior. She looked at him and said "let's go, sit down, we have to talk."

He replied "that's fine, I have waited long enough now, I am sure another few hours won't make a difference."

She answered "I want to talk to you right now. And please let me talk this time. I may sound pathetic with all this crying and stuff but we need to talk. You may have that kind of patience but I don't have any more patience. Now I am actually getting frustrated with your patience. Where did you get this much patience from?"

He simply replied "I have lost so much because of my anger, I thought I will try patience this time."

They both remained quiet. Finally she blurted'..

"I already have too much on my plate right now, if you don't let me say everything right now, I might take all my frustration out on you the wrong way. So please, can we talk?"

He just looked at her with a shock. What happened to her all of sudden? Just few minutes ago she was crying like she has no hope left and now she is fighting with him for understanding her problem? He didn't get it.

He finally said "okay."

They both walked back to the room and sat down.

After a brief silence, she looked at him and said "I''.I came to Mumbai with Nidhi'..after I left you''.I mean'..your house''.I was so lost''.I didn't even know what I was doing''where I was going'''I was just walking''..I don't even know for how long I had walked that day''.and where I was walking''..everything was just so blurry'''so confusing''..for a moment I thought I should to go my house'''then I didn't even know what to tell them''.so I didn't even go there''I just wanted to go''somewhere''.I didn't know where''..I just wanted to get away from everyone'..everything''.just''from all the shit''..I just wanted to leave''I had packed my stuff before leaving''but I don't know why'''I didn't even bring anything with me''.I just left''you'..your house''your everything''."

Part D Continues''.

It all started with 300 Rupees 28 Part D

She stopped talking. Wiped her tears and then continued''

"All I remember that I was in the auto when I had heard that big screeching sound, the brake, the accident, everything after that was just a blur. Apparently the auto had gotten into accident with a car, and I was unconscious for almost three days. When I woke up, I was in someone's house. A new place, a new room. I obviously panicked but then I found out it was the car owner's place. The accident was the driver's fault but she brought me home because she basically didn't know anything about me and she couldn't leave me there. I was treated at her home. When I was fine, I found out that she was in Delhi for some personal work. She was originally from Mumbai. When she asked me about my whereabouts, I didn't have anything to say. She just let me be for another few days while she still took care of me without asking anything about my family and stuff. Then one day, she told me that she will have to return to Mumbai since her work was done, I obviously panicked because I really didn't know where to go. She offered me to come to Mumbai with her, and without thinking twice, I decided to go with her."

She fixed the purple bear next to her daughter again and continued "when I came to Mumbai with her, she told me about her personal life. She belonged to a very wealthy family and she had left her family and everything associated with her family to marry her boyfriend, her family was totally against that guy. But she loved him so much that she went against her entire family and eloped with him. They had a court marriage and they also lived together for few months, when her husband realized that she had left all 'family money' he decided to leave her as well."

She stopped talking again. She looked directly at him and said "I didn't know who I hated more that time, you or him."

She continued again "I had lost all faith in humanity. Especially in men. What that bas***d did to Nidhi, what you did to me, I just hated everything''.just life in general. All my belief in god, everything just started fading more and more. I had never known life like this. Every single day when I used to see her, see myself, I used to remember your words, how you always used to tell me that life is not as happy as I used to think. In real, it's something else. The more I got to see the evil around me, the more I realized how stupid I used to be. I started hating me for being me. I started hating all those women who were misused by men in so many ways. I just hated everything around me. Everyone around me."

She looked at him again and said "especially you. I just hated you for what you did to me. More than that, I hated the fact that I still loved you when you were such a jerk to me. I hated myself for ever letting you do that to me. I still feel disgusted, not because of you, but just because of me that I ever let anyone treat me like that. The more I saw Nidhi go through crap every day, the more I saw myself go through hell every day, I had told myself that I will never ever get in touch with you again. I just hated being one of those women who just let men mistreat them anyway they chose to."

She rested her elbows on that bed and covered her face in her palm again. He couldn't tell if she was crying or not, he was still jumbled in I hated myself for ever loving you.

He remained quiet for little bit and then finally said "Khushi? Are you alright?"

She moved her hands, looked up and said "did that bas***d deserve an angel like her?"

There it was, his answer, her answer, their answer.

She spoke again "did she deserve a father like him? Did Nidhi deserve a husband like him? Did I deserve my six month marriage?"

And she just looked at him, with too much pain and even more anger in them.

Before he could answer anything, she spoke again "don't say sorry, you have already said that enough times, I don't want to hear it. I have already forgiven you for everything. But I still can't forget how my life is the way it is. I took such a drastic step for my family, Nidhi practically left her family for that jerk and look how we both ended up, like this. Why do bad things happen to good people?"

To her surprise, she heard the most unexpected answer "bad things happen to bad people too, look at me, I am a perfect example of that."

Another tear just rolled out of her eye. Just by hearing that, coming from him, him admitting that. She was just quiet, not knowing how to answer to that.

Another few minutes passed, she finally continued "I was still going through my own pain when we found out that Nidhi had leukemia, she wasn't responding to any treatment, even though Naina had been her nanny since birth, Nidhi already had all the legal paperwork done weeks before the doctors gave up on her'''..she chose me to be her mother and got all the necessary adoption paperwork done before she''..."

He was just patiently listening to everything. He had too many questions in his mind but he decided to let her finish what she needed to say.

She continued "I know you don't even like kids''at least the last time I had seen you deal with them''..I love you and you love me but'''she is my daughter''.not your daughter'''and I can't leave her''..I don't want to leave you either''..I don't even know how this situation fits in our already confusing situation'''I am not even sure if you are even okay about this''.I still remember you getting irritated by those kids in your house''..and she is not even your daughter''but she is still my daughter'''.and I just can't choose between her and you'''I don't know what else to say'''.she is my daughter''..I love her more than anything else''..I can't leave her''..well''..I won't leave her''..and I can't force you to accept her''..and please don't say you are okay with all this because her own father didn't want her'''and I know it's always harder for men to accept someone else's child''.especially someone like you''..who doesn't even like kids to begin with''.as I had mentioned to you earlier''..the choice would be totally yours''.I wish I had another option but I don't'''.I just can't abandon her for my happiness'..she is my daughter and I just can't do that''..I know how it is to live without parents and I can't have her go through the same."

She got up, looked at him, and said "I am an orphan and I would hate it if she ever felt that she was one too. I am not going to ask you to take a decision right now, you can think about it and let me know. I just had to tell you all this right now before she woke up. I still haven't told her anything about you yet, I couldn't tell her anything until and unless you were fine with her being in our lives. I just can't give her false hopes of having a father. Sometimes I wonder if people really need both parents. I don't know. All I know that I never want her to feel like an orphan like me."

After completing her sentence she walked towards the door. She almost opened it and was about to leave when she heard his voice "I think you have forgotten Khushi, I am an orphan too."

Her body froze. What was about that statement that made her feel like that? It wasn't news for her. She knew that already.

But why did he say it like that? What did he mean by that? She stopped, she turned to see him, he was still standing at the same spot but not looking at Khushi. He was looking at the bed, or rather, her daughter.

She walked back to him, placed her palm on his shoulder and said "I am sorry."

He now looked at her and said "you do remember right?"

She didn't know how to answer to that. There was so much to say, yet nothing.

She stayed quiet.

He stayed quiet.

The beeping continued''

Why did he think that there was much more to this than she was telling him?

Why did she cry like that? What made her so emotional? It couldn't be just this? Is there something else that I don't know about? Could she have something else to say? He didn't know. He didn't even know if he actually wanted to ask anything anymore.

Her phone rang. She looked at it, it was Karan calling. She answered "hi Karan, she is still the same, no, I am fine, no you don't need to come here, I will let you know if I need anything. Yes, I know, thank you, I am fine, yes, that's what Naina said''.she is a fighter''.I know. I will let you know. Thanks Karan."

She hung up.

He was just staring at her when all of sudden he said "this morning when I found out about your daughter, for a second I thought she could be our daughter. The whole time while I was at the office and after that when I went home, all I could think was that how could you do this to me? Regardless of how bad our situation was, I still had the right to know about our child. I was so mad at you. I misunderstood you once again. I really thought you didn't tell me about our daughter. After what all you said that night about our last night of our contract marriage, how that one night ruined your life ' I really thought that maybe you got pregnant after that night and she was our baby."

She moved her hand away from his shoulder, very quickly. Another tear rolled out of her eye. Her head was spinning now, her heart started beating faster, her mind went blank when she heard his last sentence. She moved few steps back, he noticed that, he walked to her and asked "what's wrong Khushi?"

She continued moving back until she hit the closed door, her eyes had tears streaming out, pushing her back further and further on that door, as if her pushing into the door would help her escape that situation''..

He panicked seeing her like this, he quickly got to her, held her body and asked "Khushi, what's wrong?"

She started crying hard. Very hard. He was worried now, he asked again "Khushi? Please tell me what's going on? What happened?"

She looked at him with those tired eyes and said in-between her sobs "I am sorry Arnav Ji."

He had no idea what she was talking about. He asked "sorry for what Khushi?"

She closed her eyes, letting that last drop out of her eye, pushed herself further on that door and said in between her heavy breaths ' "I did get pregnant after that night."
