Rooting for innovation
Narayani Shastri is bored with her saas-bahu serials. The actor, who has been part of serials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kkusum, says, "I would not do any more of these serials as I've reached a saturation point."
About the current trend of saas-bahu serials which despite getting a lot of criticism are still raking in the moolah, the actor says, "People who are producing serials should try to make a difference by coming up with innovative ideas. And, of course, the audience should also be receptive to new concepts, instead of trashing what is being aired on TV. Then only would things change."
Narayani, who has done theatre as well as TV, says "Theatre is all about live energy. But by the end of the day, acting is acting, be it in front of a live audience or on television."
Besides TV serials, Narayani has also done a Marathi film. Ask her if she has any plans of doing commercial Bollywood films and the actor says that she would not like to say "no" to any role at this point of time. "However, I would not do item numbers, but if something decent comes along then I may consider," she says. Narayani is presently working in Sanskar which is telecast on DD1.
She was recently in town for Mahesh Dattani's play Mad About Money.
