Nishigandha Wad, who plays Damyanti (Mamta's mother-in-law) in Zee TV's Mamta has quit acting in the serial. She has now been replaced by Anita Kulkarni. Nishigandha was furious about the show's irregular schedule. She says, "I started shooting for Mamta from February last year. To my surprise, I found that the show doesn't have an episode bank. So, we had to shoot till the last minute. Even the scripts came in at the eleventh hour."
Nishigandha was also miffed with the way her dates were taken for granted. She adds, "They expect me to commit all days for the serial when they don't utilise the 22 days, which I have already committed. Several times, I have been called at 11 in the night, informing about a change in the next day's schedule. In that case, how do I accommodate my prior commitments? I am losing out on good opportunities. Is it so much to expect a decent notice of two days prior to any change in their schedule?"
She continues, "I have been in this industry for a long time. I have done several shows like Daastaan, Daayrein and Paalkhi. But I have never come across a production house (Shobhana Desai Productions) like this. Working for this serial has caused me lot of anxiety and trauma. I was fed up and hence I decided to quit." Says director Apurva Acharya, "Nishigandha was suffering from some gynaecological problem due of which she couldn't meet up with the stress on the sets." However, Nishigandha rubbishes having any health problem and maintains that her problems were completely emotional in nature.
