Vidya--- sarswati's ultimate blessing to mankind

the wisdom of written words
The secrets of wonderful life
spiritual enhancement
A priceless gift
Literacy
The United Nations' (UN) International Literacy Day annually falls on September 8
to raise people's awareness of and concern for literacy issues in the world.
This year the theme is Literacy and Peace
UNESCO along with its partners celebrates this day to generate awareness for literacy and communicable diseases which can be prevented/controlled by proper education
such as AIDS; Malaria and Tuberculosis
Women specially suffer from low literacy rate and 75% of 774 Million adults who don't have basic reading skills
Children in developing countries are specially vulnerable to drop out rates at primary level;due to poverty and lack of resources.
A lot has been done in this Field but the road is long and fruits are sweet as
almost 4 billion people are literate in this world today
The UN General Assembly proclaimed a 10-year period beginning on January 1, 2003, as the United Nations Literacy Decade. The assembly also welcomed the International Plan of Action for the Decade and decided for UNESCO to take a coordinating role in activities at an international level within the decade's framework
Literacy is not just a skill but it is essential to the very core of humanity.
It improves lives by enhancing the standard of living/sense of justice/human rights and self reliance.
UN recognizes literacy as fundamental human right.
A educated mind can fly the wide open skies and change the world
The Right to Education is a fundamental right and UNESCO aims at education for all by 2015.
India along with Arab states and Africa has a literacy level below the threshold of 75% but efforts are on to achieve that level.
Our Nation
challenges and achievements
India's literacy rate grew to 74.04% in 2011 but it is lower than the average literacy rate of 84%. Literacy rate expanded from 18.33% in 1951 to 74.04% in 2011.
In the last three decadal from 1961 to 1991 periods, female literacy in the 15-19 years age group rose from 11% to 86%. A 1990 study estimated that we will have to wait till 2060 to achieve universal literacy for India.
The gender disparity also exists showing 84.14% for male with 65.46% for women. The census gave a positive indication that growth in female literacy rates (11.8%) was faster than in male literacy rates (6.9%) in the 2001 to 2011 decadal period which indicates that gender gaps are narrowing.
If we work real hard we can hit the target sooner than that.
Lets pledge today to bring literacy to every house hold..

But still the road is long but We have the Will and together we would all achieve

Peace, prosperity and health targets for our great nation
and the world
Education remains primary tool to make the Indian dream of Pandit Nehru
Come True

Very rightly said!
Literacy is not just a skill but it is essential to the very core of humanity.

It is not an optional requirement but a basic need and every human deserves the right for getting one!
Thanks for posting this topic!

very nice post... I just have an idea to take an initiative to provide the education to mass people; who can not afford.. I do not know as of now.. if this will work or not.. but why not take a chance to initiate it.
Can I have like minded people in this forum to work on this ???
I'll be glad to to have the like minded people post on this.. and provide their inputs... :)
