Nice post.
I have been a silent member of this forum since the show started, at the time I was so involved in another show that I didn't see anything else past that show, now I regret giving that show so much attention because the fans of that show were dealt a huge blow recently.
I wanted to write a FF for this forum for a long time but kept putting it off because I felt there are many wonderful writers on this forum already and there was no way I could match them, so having said this you might have figured out that I am guilty of reading something but not leaving a comment.
I am not sure if I can contribute my opinion one way or another because I am writer and a reader. Recently I wrote three OSs for this forum and the likes I have gotten has baffled me. The likes I got on my writing on the forum were mild compared to the one I got on this forum.
In the past or now, I have never asked anyone to press the like button or leave a comment, I guess I never thought of it and for me as long as they enjoy what I have written has always been good enough, but I have to tell you seeing the likes and someone praising my work even with just two words motivates me to be even more creative.
So in a way I am glad you have made me aware that we should appreciate a writers work, but as a reader I also understand when people don't have time to leave a comment or don't want to leave false comments for something they don't like.
I hope I made sense.
To all the fellow writers, I will try my best to leave a comment when I read on of your works, but sometimes it will take me days to catch up on all updates.

I enjoy writing and sharing what I write. But no/less comments, despite disappointing me don't discourage me to a great extent. I usually write to get over any extreme emotion or merely out of a crazy streak of imagination. Sharing and receiving feedback is just a secondary choice and often I keep my works right there in my folder. There is one additional aspect though. If I were among many who would send PMs to everyone in my buddy list, it would drive me mad. Hence I keep it to the minimum for I believe that if you want to read it, you will find your own ways and means to read it. That's human nature as well. I do have my must-be-followed FFs. I merely bookmark them and open all of them at the end of the day to see who's updated and who's not.

Great post for a meaningful discussion :)

As a reader because I became a reader far before I became a writer

I only comment on posts which I genuinely like... if I don't like the post that much I press the like button and sometimes I just close the tab... I never ask for pms except for from Nayika,Reyabear and one or two more writers... If I like a post I stalk it... it's as simple as that

And I absolutely never comment on posts where the writers say [30 pages of comments for the next update😕] no matter how great the story is... [I 100% agree with Nymra on this one]...

Now as a writer

If you send me a buddy request, if you can tell me to pm you you should take the time out to comment even if it is a small one... I'm not saying every single update but once in a while doesn't hurt does it??

I never unbuddied anyone for not commenting yet but now I've started deleting people from my friendlist who haven't visited this forum in more than two months... There are genuine readers who love reading but can't comment as they read from the mobile... I've nothing against them but for the rest if you request a pm you should comment... even if it as small as "awesome" [my opinion]... I understand some people don't love writing so this one word from them proves to me "okay they are reading my work and like it"... it gives my satisfaction that my work is being appreciated

Just my opinion 😊

This topic was really needed! I PM-ed over 400 people, and then only got not even 100 likes. So, I made a separate PM account only for those who want a PM, and now I've got 154-ish people which is fine. Why waste time PM-ing over 400 ppl and not even getting proper response.

TFS 👍🏼

i agree with u..i a reader who follows many stories including urs...
i always believe that if a person spending his/her energy, time ,creativity to entertain others then they deserve to be appreciated .i personally feel its my responsibility cuz i can only give my comment to my dear writers.if they think its valuable for them then i'm honored ... i'm working but still i make sure to post at least a word or an emotion ...
