MILAN- The Final Destination
PART- 64
Oooh! Me sleep again. Jia said pulling the sheet over her head then peeked out. Don't tell daddy. Otay.
Geet nodded her n left. When she came downstairs Maan had already left for office n she couldn't be any more grateful, unknowingly he did her a big favour. She prepared breakfast; they ate it after which Annie left for her college. Dadimaa sat in the living room, she had no work today professionally but personally she had a lot to do.
Little foot made their way into the living room as Jia tentatively climbed down the stairs. Nan I am up. She chirruped jumping into Dadimaa's lap.
That's good. Dadimaa replied kissing her both cheeks fondly.
Where is daddy? She asked playing with her locks.
Daddy has left for office beta. Dadimaa answered simultaneously motioning Geet to sit with them on seeing her leaving.
He left without meeting Jia. Jia eyes brimmed with tears as sucked her upper lip.
She was normally an easy child always happy n mostly obedient yet she was extremely close to Maan. He was her single parent n to Jia, her mom, dad, friend, confidante everything was Maan. He left without meeting made her think she did something wrong because there wasn't a day when he left without seeing her in the morning.
Jia been good girl. Jia defended herself, on verge of crying.
Of course you have been good darling. Dadimaa said trying to pacify her. Daddy may have left due to some important work.
You tink so?
I know so.
Ooo... Really?? Daddy also says Nan knows everything. She said spreading hers arms wide at the last word.
Yeah Nan knows everything. Dadimaa said imitating Jia. Well Geet you met Jia. Right?
Ji...
Jia, she is your mommy. Dadimaa told, again imitating Jia's British accent, she had grown up in London so had that tinge of it.
Mommy? Jia's eyes were wide as she stared at Geet. Daddy said my mommy is with god.
Yes. She is. N that's why he brought you a new mommy.
Oh. She is not angel. Geet grimaced at the statement. Angel? She could be a called a curse, she thought though Jia's next set of words surprised her. Good. I don't want angel. They leave you alone.
This time Geet found her eyes wide. Was she accepting her? Knowing she was not some fancy angel or fairy from a fairy tale n only an ordinary human being. This is the pro of being a kid, no pump n show required. Little things make them happy n they surely know how to make others the same.
Dadimaa smiled n lovingly kissed her forehead. Okay enough of the talks now. You are going to take bath. She said n before Jia could protest called her sitter.
Dadimaa... Geet said. I can give Jia bath. She offered, she didn't have anything else to do.
Sure. Dadimaa agreed too excited by the idea of mother-daughter bonding. Why not.
Geet bent down n Jia gladly sprang into her arms.
Sooo... Jia sang while climbing the stairs. You give me bath?
Yes.
N if I run away? Jia asked with a naughty glint.
I won't let you. Geet answered with a smile.
Otay. Jia's face fell while she scratched her temple, a habit she had inherited from her father. But I don't wike it.
Hmm... What if I give you your favourite thing after you take bath? Geet asked after they entered Jia's bathroom n she settled her down.
That's sounds good. Jia nodded her head in affirmation. Deal.
Deal. Geet slapped her hand on Jia's forwarded palm.
Once Geet was satisfied with the water temperature in the tub she put her into it after taking her clothes off.
What is your name? Jia asked while Geet washed her hairs.
Geet.
Teeth. What kind of name is this? Jia asked pressing her both hands on mouth to muffle her giggle.
God the girl was contagious no one could resist smiling in her company. Geet thought as her lips broke into a genuine smile.
It's Geet.
Teeth. Jia spoke not understanding why Geet was repeating it again; it wasn't like she was pronouncing it wrong. Right?
Yeah... Geet finally decided to push Geet-Teeth topic aside. Anyways you don't have to call me that.
Yesh. Mommy you are.
Exactly. She pulled her out of the tub then putting a towel around took her to the room. Where are your clothes? Geet asked n Jia pointed towards the cabinet in question.
So we'll do mommy-jia stuff?
Mommy-Jia stuff?
Yesh. Jia said as if imparting some great piece of wisdom. Like they do in TV. Looking at Geet passive face she continued. Mother make daughter hairs with colourful clips, they eat together, mommy tell stolies, they play, they lub each other n they do stopping.
You mean shopping? Geet asked.
Yesh. Stopping. Daddy don't like stopping. Jia made a face. You go with me, we will buy all big girls things. Jia asked sucking her upper lip n staring at her with all the expectations in the world.
Aaa. Yes. Geet answered unsure n confused. She didn't deserved so much enthusiasm but that little girl never had a mother n was now totally elated having one.
Now I get brownlate. Jia asked after getting fully dressed.
huh... Geet raised an eyebrow.
You said Jia get favourite thing if Jia bath.
Yeah. Geet said as remembrance hit her. So what do you want?
Brownlate. She repeated again for Geet's sake.
Brownlate? Geet murmured confused.
You don't know brownlate. Jia's eyes were now soccer size. Its brown n sweet n sticky when it melts... yummy. She hungrily licked her lips then looked at Geet to check if she got it.
Oh chocolate. Geet thought to herself then spoke. Yeah I got it. Let's go get your brownlate. She said taking Jia into her arms.
Geet asked Nakul to bring chocolate from outside to which he informed there was always chocolate in kitchen for Jia. So Geet grabbed a bar from kitchen n gave it to Jia. Jia merrily opened the wrapper n bit into the cocoa delight n then offered some to Geet too. How could she not accept something from such a lovely girl? Geet also took a small piece n relished the sweet taste.
It was not the setting sun but a yawn that made Geet realise that it was past 6 in evening.
Me sleepy. Jia said, her eyes dropping.
When time passed was a secret. Jia knew some magic, she introduced Geet to her family i.e. her dolls n stuffed toys. They played house game n then Geet made Jia a cake. It was like another world where there were no fears n scars. Just sweets cute giggle n talk of a child which fascinated Geet. She forgets for a moment that she was not supposed to be there, she forgot what grief meant. There were no lies, no wait. Just a life full of fantasy n irrational dreams n it all intrigued her.
Okay then you should take a nap. Geet said with a smile n Jia stretched her hands out for the ride while her new mommy took her to the room.
Hope she didn't trouble you. Dadimaa asked to Geet who was coming downstairs after tucking Jia securely in bed.
Not at all. She is a good girl, I like her. Geet answered not in her usual gloomy tune.
Dadimaa smiled, it was the longest sentence Geet had spoken in a while.
Yes she is. Maan took good care of her, she was with him alone for 2 years in London when I n Annie came back to India after 1 years of her birth. Dadimaa said with a sigh, she surely didn't want to leave Maan n Jia alone there but there was no other option. Annie wanted to study here as Arjun works in Delhi, her boyfriend. Dadimaa informed. N being in my last few years I wanted to die in between my own people. I had thought that Maan will find it difficult to live there alone with a 1 year old baby all by himself but he is stubborn like his father. I don't know how he coped up for two years there. But finally my deteriorating health n Jia's need for family brought him here.
He shifted here just 3 months ago. Dadimaa added in the end.
Maan's stubbornness was no news to Geet. But the question nagging in her mind was leaving no loopholes for restraint.
