Forgive me for being old-fashioned but I personally think that 70s and 80s music is MUCH better than 21st century music because:-

The singer adds emotion.

Anyone of any age can listen to it.

It has more of a romantic, complex meaning.

Think about it - we still talk abt Elvis and the Beatles yet they were on stage 40-50 yrs ago. But maybe Britney, Avril, 50 Cent, etc. will be forgotten one day.

Please don't bash me cos I'm old-fashioned. Remember - this is my opinion. I respect all ur opinions - which one do u think is better - 20th century music or 21st century music?

I agree with bubble_gum.

And it's not just confined to the quality of music of the west. We see this in the East too.

However, the question is which of the music that we are "forced" through today will live for the next 20, 30 years or more. I am sure we will see that only a few will survive the test of time.

Extrapolating this argument, I conclude that there must have been some music in the 60's or 70's that were perhaps briefly popular but did not stand the test of time. Only the best came through.

well there is quality music being made today as well, but it changes from people to people on what they think quality music is. I like most old hindi songs because they are classics, and i like new western songs as well. I agree that there is a lot of cussing and profanity in the songs and videos, but 40 years ago our grand parents thought that elvis was bad and should not have been listened to by our parents.

In the movie school of rock Jack black makes a comment of how with the advent of mtv the rock culture and popularity same down. I dont know if everyone has the same interpration of this comment, but I believe that music videos have been a big culprit in polluting music.

We dont have poems set to notes any more - we have scantily clad lissome lasses gyrating away to a beat. Look at how singers like Mariah have to package their songs now. I think the wost hit is "indi-pop"; its almost musical soft po*n.

Yes, times and tastes have changed, and they do account for a certain amount of change in the flavour of music today. But the younger generation these days , does appreciate the old music. look at the contestants who come in for the idol - they mostly pick classics from yester years.
But such music does not thirve these days because there is no big market for it.
