Now that the dowry case is closed i was thinking to have a discussion on this issue.

some questions to start with

  • are you in favour of dowry?
  • Does a hubby has the right to beat his wife for not enough dowry?
  • Does a mother-in-law has a right to taunt daughter-in-law for a miscarriage?
  • should a daughter disclose to her parents and relatives about whats happening with her in her in-laws?

I think the lawyer was too good, the one who was against Sati. His arguements were too good BUT he kept shouting and raising his voice, which i don't think is good. If you think psychlogically, one who shouts somehow feels that his words are not "TRUE" and doesn't believe what he is saying is right and thats why he raises his/her voice.

The psychology thing that the opposite lawyer raised was to good, but it did NOT include everyone in the world. and why i say that i coz the psychologists don't know much about Sub-continent and the values/cultre there. i think that was just a useless point raised and the judge didn't even question him that how does this is relevant to Usha Jaswal.

Usha might not have been educated, and if someone doesnt know how to write how can they write a suicide note? i wanna meet the writer and the psychologists and ask them this question.

do share your views, plz dont just write i agree with u, it really annoys me

I think its tragic that there is still dowry being exchanged inspite of it being illegal.

I know of some friends (not the close ones) who gave dowry at their wedding through highly expensive gifts like a house, luxury car and things like that.

If girl's parents continue giving into such demands and not out cast people who even make such demands it will never stop. Firstly they must make sure that the boys family genuinly does not have interest in dowry before the marriage and make this clear with them.

Secondly they should start understanding that divorce from a relationship (like was in this case which Sati handled) is better than seeing a dead daughter.

I think dowry is like selling your own son to a woman (his wife)!

I understand Sati won, but the points she made were emotional, not practical. If this similiar case was in USA, Sati would have lost, because she had NO, absolutely NO evidence, but just emotional appeal, thats it, but in India, I guess these kinds of cases are so frequent, even the judge understood.

Sati won on the point that husband and wife fought, well which couple don't fight and who doesn't complain right?

Think about it???

ur right there, which couple doesnt fight, but have u ever thought y people kill each other? mostly coz they have had a fight, right???
i agree the points raised were rmotional but in USA there is no concept of dowry so this case wouldnt have been open there itself and if it would have been, the defence/prosecution would have lost the case in the first hearing, coz its ILLEGAL to ask or give DOWRY
but yes Sati's most points were emotional but dont u think emotions are wat makes us, happy/sad/jealolus/hatred etc. But ur right law doesnt care about emotions but since the Judge knows himself about this dowry thing, thats y he gave that decision. He also mentioned that ur speech is emotional but law doesnt care about them. why Usha's hubby and mom-in-law got sentence of 7 years was coz of Usha's hubby's confession.
Every hubby wife have fights but they don't go to each otehr's parrents to complain, do they? they only go if things are becoming worse

Areee Aji people do. They go and complain to their spouse's parents. This happens often in marriages in Asia.

Are you in favour of dowry? - Certainly not!
Does a hubby have right to beat his wife for not enough dowry? - No one has the right to beat anyone, unless it is self-defence.
Does a mother-in-law have a right to taunt daughter-in-law for a miscarriage? - Nope. Tis' similar to taunting her own son if he is a eunuch.
Should a daughter disclose to her parents and relatives about what's happening with her in her in-laws? - Absolutely, serials where mother tells her daughter to go back and bear the brunt should be BANNED. Rather than emotionally blackmailing your daughter to go back to Hell, it would be better to kill her at birth.

I might have sounded harsh in my comments. But I just wanted to get my point across. Dowry is an evil that has deep-roots in this society. It should be plucked out and thrown away. Sorry if I hurt anyone's sentiments.

Hmmm a very good point Aji!
These women do not realize that they are becoming the person they did not want to be in the first place! It is not right.
Personally, I am against this whole dowry thing. It is not right. I have always said that I am never going to have anythiong to do with dowry. Its plain disgusting! First of all, the parents of the girl give their precious daughter to you and on top of that, you go ahead and tell them to pay for it too?! Where is the sense in that? On the other hand, you should be the one paying since you are getting someones most precious treasure!

Well, im sorry if that offended anyone! 😳
That is just my sentiments...
