👏👏👏Finally got around to watching this movie...Brilliant...I'm floored by a hindi movie after ages...there are so many movies we watch just for timepass...or there's bits and pieces we like here and there...but in this movie it's like everything came together wonderfully...
Firstly the script...fantastic script...so gripping and everything actually tied together logically with the amazing climax which I personally didn't see coming at all cuz I hadn't read any spoilers so it was a totally wow moment for me...loved the symbolism of Maa Durga used there...symbolizing the mother, the fierce power of the female...
Vidya Balan who is literally the hero of this movie...the role doesn't even require great histrionics but she is perfect in this role...in the little nuances and flashes of brilliance that make a scene special...like the tears in her eyes and the way she turns away to sip from her water bottle after Rana tells her she'll make a great mother...and so many other moments that I can't really list out.
Rana...what an ADORABLE character and I just LOVED the treatment of his relationship with Vidya...no typical sappy love story...a HUMAN connect before anything else and then the soft corner he develops for her...these things seem impossible in today's era of brainless masala movies with lame item numbers...that SENSITIVITY and CLASS can be shown in relationships...I loved that.
I loved the quirkiness sprinkled throughout the script...the "running water"...the B instead of V pronunciation,...simple heartwarming moments of Vidya's interaction with the two kids at the hotel/chai stall...even the contract killer Bob...who ofcourse creeped me out on one level but otherwise amused me as well with the way he was conceived as this character that on the surface is abused by his boss at office but is otherwise this chilling contract killer...loved the idea behind it.
I loved the movie in totality...I can't think of a single fault that I can find in it...and I can't remember the last time I felt that about a hindi movie...superb...I wish more movies were made like this where the STORY is king...
Oh and forgot to add, I loved the way Kolkata was showcased in this movie...so vibrant and culturally rich...fantastic to watch.
