Tam rating system questioned

ya i read in toi of today

trp and tam are different,i read sumwhere.the chart which we are getting is for trp,which is correct.tam arent published since the day this news arraived, like 3 weeks ago.

yea...i hav seen da tv report abt dat...it seems dat vhannel is giving money to tam for increasing their serial's rating

Trps are calculated through tam , if that is corrupted then how can trps be accurate..

i dont know.sum1 working in the trp industry posted a detailed report on IPKKND forum.there it was stated that trp and tam are entirely different.

Presently, INTAM (Indian Television Audience Measurement) is the only electronic rating agency functioning in India. INTAM uses two methodologies for calculating TRP. First is frequency monitoring, in which 'people meters' are installed in sample homes and these electronic gadgets continuously record data about the channel watched by the family members. 'People meter' is a costly equipment, which is imported from abroad. It reads the frequencies of channels, which are later, decoded into the name of the channels and the agency prepares a national data on the basis of its sample homes readings. But there is a drawback in the technique, as cable operators frequently change the frequencies of the different channels before sending signals to the homes. It may be very misleading to read a channel according to a particular frequency even if the down linking frequency is same all over India.

However, when Aamir was asked about the game of TRPs, the actor seemed least concerned. At a press meet recently, Aamir said he is also not bothered by the Television Rating Points (TRPs), seen as a yardstick for any TV programme.

''I am very clear that our viewership is the highest ever. I don't know what the advertisers do but I will tell you one thing. The reason I am not bothered about TRPs is because TRP number is given by just 7,000 boxes. And how is 7000 boxes going to tell me what India is watching. TRP is very different from viewership. And I am bothered about viewership, I am concerned about it, not the TRPs,'' he said.
