I am frankly quite tired of the trivialization of this word by several Soham haters on this forum.
Rape denotes sexual penetration and/or act against the consent of a person. Consent is CRITICAL to the definition of rape - with consent, sex is not rape and without consent AT ANY GIVEN POINT OF TIME during the act, it is. That should be simple to understand.
Soham said "Koi zabardasti nahin hai" meaning he would NOT do anything with Anjali without her explicit consent, which translates into simple legalese that he DID NOT try to rape Anjali.
The proper word is "seduce." Soham tried to seduce Anjali; he failed. That should be simple too. Stick to THAT while you are trying to make whatever point it is you are making.
Why would you use that term? Maybe because it adds a powerful weapon to the point you are making. Yes, the discourse of "rape" has a lot of power, and the act primarily, is also about power. And as women primarily, it should be your job to fight against that power, to take the power out of the word and the act, forever.
Lets not trivialize the horrible and tragic experiences of women who have actually been raped and bring it down to what Soham tried to do with Anjali.
