Why does Madhubala act as if she is being humiliated by the work that she has been asked to do? This work is not excessive, nor is it in any way demeaning. Serving people coffee or offering them prasad is not an onerous task; I wonder why she is making it so. It seemed to me particularly galling that she, who does all sorts of household work in her own house, and let us not forget, has been a beautician in a salon, should feel so put upon by being asked to perform these duties. It seemed odd, also, that she felt so horrified at having to greet the staff at RK's house with a namaskar. Has she been brought up with no manners whatsoever, that she would consider it insulting to greet a fellow human being, notwithstanding they are employed by her husband? To me it reeks of bad character development and poor writing. Also, it seems to me that the more Madhubala shows a long and suffering face to RK, the more he is satisfied. Surely, the logical thing to do would be to appear to enjoy her new work and do it cheerfully-- it is work, and ordinarily it would have been done by another person, so why the air of a martyr? Odd!
Or is it symptomatic of a wider social malaise in India, wherein certain job are seen as more menial than others?
Whatever it is, I found it deeply grating and highly out of character for someone who has usually been shown as down to earth and socially responsible.

I guess she is reacting only and only to RK,he is humiliating her and in fact he should realise that there is nothing wrong with her being the ninth naukar, cos all of us are naukars somewhere or the other.
Serving coffee or prasad is not bad its the way he is making a big issue out of it,is.

It is NOT the work which is insulting but RK's intention of insulting her through such things making her sad. RK keeps telling people that how she raised hand on me but now she is so submissive and will do anything for me etc. He says she doesnt need to sit. He always keep smirking at her and basically shows where her place is. Of course any girl will be sad when she knows whatever she is working is because someone wants to insult and embarrass her through this.

PS Did you make this account for this post basically? 😕

But surely she knows that she isn't going to be stepping into a fairy tale. She knows the man, his pettiness. Then why act all horrified?
It seems to me a not at all intelligent thing to do>
Her dismay at hearing of Malik's worsened condition, however, is logical. Everything else is melodrama, which she should realise is like nectar to her Nemesis/husband.

then should she smile instead of acting horrified? Even in real life, when something happens so we cry or get sad even though we know it wont change the fact but still we do!! Don't we??

Good observation! Besides, surely the common-sense rule of fighting is to never let the enemy know you're hurt - the stiff upper lip is most effective when coupled with a smile. Never lettem' know they're getting you down 😉

@cutee 1992 Of course she should be sad. She has ,afterall, handed herself to a powerful, cruel and completely unscrupulous person, who has been responsible for almost killing her father. Not only must she be sad, she is right to be terrified. She says she's not afraid, but she must be. But, brave girl that she is, she hides her terror.
It is her obvious distress that is self-defeating. If she can hide her terror ( and she has more reason to be afraid than sad, at least before news of Malik's failing health), then surely she can hide her distress.
And she should not be distressed at performing tasks which most people in other countries do for themselves anyway.

RK has made her his personal spot girl. Mrs. RK is a spot girl. Isn't it insulting? RK is showing that the girl slapped him is working for him. Also taking revenge from Madhu.
Anyways loving this show. Love you RK and Madhubala <3

Why MB was not happy in going work?? The answer lies in why we dont see any happy cheerful slaves even if they sold themselves to their masters..
There is a difference btw wilfully doing something and forcefully asked to do something evenif its as minial as lifting a cup...

I think it is unreasonable for her to expect any of the perks normally associated with being Mrs RK. She knows the conditions of her marriage, and has been used to serving people. I found her shame to be out od character, and a blip in an otherwise sound and strong character.
