To quote Mark Twain: Give loyalty to the country always but give loyalty to the government when it deserves it.

When corruption is rampant, poverty present and economic mayhem evident then how does a common man raise his voice against these?

By forming pressure groups to influence the government.

So here's my question-Do pressure groups (like India Against Corruption) hinder the autonomy of the government?

The autonomy which the government in a democracy gets comes with a lot of responsibility. But power corrupts and often, autonomy and responsibility do not go hand-in-hand as should be the case. It is possible to have pressure groups which keeps a check on the government and at the same time, doesn't hinder the important steps being taken by them. Government does need to be pressurised because it cannot be allowed absolute power and turned into a dictator. I feel pressure groups hinder the misuse of power by government and not it's autonomy.
Of course, here, I'm talking about very utopian and ideal pressure groups which are hard too find these days as the pressure groups themselves fight for their own agendas and not the betterment of the country as a whole. Oh well😊

@Bold- Nicely put :)

You are right in a way. Pressure groups aren't just a bunch of honest people who want to fight for a cause. Some of them make irrational demands and of course such demands shouldn't be entertained.

However I do feel that pressure groups in general aren't working against the government, rather they are working against corruption, poverty and such. Both the government and the pressure groups have the same goal, that is the betterment of the society...

Well, I don't generalise as such when it comes to that. The government has ministers which genuinely work for the country and has ministers which only misuse the public money. There are some pressure groups which work for the society and some just work for their own benefits. So ya, I mean, I won't generalise on that or pass a judgement. I would only say that India as a country (as many others who are developing) needs more of honest people, whether in the government or in the pressure groups, who can better it's condition considering it is a country where the government and pressure groups can coexist decently (:

Seoul..
Pressure Groups majorly consist of people that do not have any job, or any work. These pressure groups are just consisted of people that are jobless and are frustrated with their lives.
IAC(India Against Corruption) is bull-shit. Any man with some little knowledge will know that corruption cannot be eradicated. Yes, it can be reduced to a certain extent, that is by increasing transperancy and accountability... i gtg, will come back later and edit the post, there's a powercut here -.-

There Is No Need of Forming Any Pressure Groups.
The CAG is there ,
if they do there audit report loyally and correctly than many scams can come up like 2G spectrum , CWG etc.
more pressure groups means more courruption and waisage of money...

in CAG only , some changes and ppl like us try to be there , who wants to bring a change
Trust Me One Can Make A Change!

I think If we can bring transparency into every policy decisions, huge scale scams like this will be averted..Its true that, biggest causes of corruption is greed and power...and our moral standards are weak esply panishing these currpted authories and peoples... court and law should not capable to handle it in proper way... and in india Poverty may be one of the causes but not the only cause...and rich people to amass money by foul means.
