Teaser for the next part (I won't call this an update!) 😛
After searching the whole of the premises of Hope, Arnav was assured that Anjali was indeed missing. He had searched all the rooms in the second floor of the building, and was rushing towards the top floor where there was only one room and that was where Khushi stayed. He knew that Anjali would never climb until here as her limp did not help her. And especially when she was a full-fledged pregnant. But he hoped that somehow she would be here instead of disappearing like she had. He had opened the door and and stormed in calling out for his sister when he heard Khushi call him from behind. Turning to see her, he saw her pale face and understood that something had happened. He was by her side within a blink of the eye, and had her flush against him, as he peered into her eyes and asked her what was wrong. Her answer to it was one word. "Shyam." Stiffening at her response, he understood what had happened, and started to pour out all possible expletives, even as he started to think what should be done. He felt Khushi shudder against him, and his chain of thoughts stopped right there. After all Khushi was what mattered. "Its going to be alright, Khushi. I am here. Don't worry." He murmured into her ears, trying to wind her down a notch.
It was like there never had been anything wrong in their relationship. All of it had gone forgotten at the signs of distress in the other's life. "He still wants me. . . . . He. . . . I don't want Di hurt! I should go to him. . . . ." Khushi started to stutter in her fear, when he put his finger on her lips to silence her. With the patience that he did not know that he possessed, he replied, "You are doing no such thing, Khushi. If at all there is anyone who is going to him, it would be me. You are going to be here." Khushi's eyes widened at his assertion and she shook her head in negation. There was no way that she would let him leave and face Shyam, all alone. "No, Arnav! I am. . . . ." Khushi had started when Arnav's patience went dead, and he snapped, "Khushi, please!! Throw me whatever crap you want to, and I will take it! But not now! I need you to be here! And I will be back, Khushi. . . . At the end of the day, there is nowhere else I want to be other than with you." His voice had become so gentle by the end of his reply that Khushi started crying, hugging him tight around his waist. "Promise??" Khushi mumbled against his chest, and Arnav kissed her cheek once, nodding his head against hers.
They heard Ajay yell his name from below them and they rushed downwards too. Khushi looked in surprise as she took in Ajay's harrowed state. If Arnav's face had gone all bloodless at the thought of his missing sister, Ajay looked lifeless! Except for the glint of determination in his eyes, to find Anjali. Arnav and Khushi exchanged a silent glance of surprise and understanding to a certain extent, before Khushi was being shaken to death by Ajay. "How can you be careless?!! Where did she go to?!" Ajay almost shouted, before Arnav freed Khushi and put her behind him. Ajay and Arnav glared at each other, Arnav annoyed that Ajay had been almost about to hurt Khushi, and Ajay annoyed at Arnav that he was still thinking about Khushi when his sister was missing! They towered over each other, and Khushi almost whimpered, as she pressed Arnav's arm. "This is not the time to fight, both of you! Di is missing!" Ajay immediately turned to Khushi, his eyes pleading, "And I asked you what happened?! Where would she have gone to??! She was alright last night!!" Khushi went in between the two men, as she explained to Ajay about Shyam's phone call and how he had wanted her to be ready for him, and that he would call her when he was ready to take her, and her mind wandered to the conversation she had had with him a while ago.
"How easy was it for you to leave me, Khushiji?! Do you have any idea as to how much I missed you?! That's it! This has gone way too far! Be ready and I shall call you back to tell you how you can reach me. . ." She had protested, telling that she did not want to do anything about his desperation to see her, and that is when his sugary act had dropped, and had managed to spit out, "Well, you do not have an option now. Do you, Khushiji?! Come or you will never find your pyaari Anjaliji! Or maybe you would! But she would not be able to greet you like she should!" His voice had leered, and Khushi shuddered again, before she was brought out of her reverie when she felt Arnav's rough palm rubbing her fore-arm in support. She also put forward her idea of how she should actually go ahead with Shyam's demand. Both men protested, and Ajay ran his hands through his hair, almost pulling it out in frustration. He made a few phone calls and also sent an image of Anjali which he had taken on his phone to a few people who worked with him, hoping somebody -- ANYBODY -- would help him. The phone rang, and Khushi paled again, and Arnav's grip tightened on her. They headed into Khushi's chamber, and Khushi squeezed Arnav's hand as she answered the phone and put it on loudspeaker. "Canacona. That is where I want you to come. And I also heard that my pyaare saale saahib has paid you so much money, Khushiji. Why don't you get some of that filthy money too?? And one word regarding this to anyone and you know what I am capable of doing." Ajay was gesturing to ask her about Anjali, and Khushi managed to stutter a question about Anjali's whereabouts. Shyam laughed before he replied, "She will be sent to where you are right now, as soon as you come to me, Khushiji. . . . Ab jaldi aaiye. I can't wait much longer to see you!" Khushi made a disgusted face at that, moving to stand fully in touch with Arnav's body. Shyam murmured the address of where she should come, and again stressed that she come to him as soon as possible. No sooner had she ended the call, when Ajay said, "I somehow do not have a good feeling about this. . . ."
"Its not like I am in love with this situation too!" Khushi mumbled more to herself, when she felt Arnav's arm go around her shoulder as he said, "You don't have to worry about anything Khushi. I am here." Khushi, if possible, looked more worried at this, and was about to say something, when her phone rang again, making her shudder even before she received the call. "One more thing, Khushi-ji. . . . Keep your friends out of this. Especially your Arnav and the dog who is romancing my wife!" Ajay clenched his fists when he heard Shyam proclaim Anjali as his wife. Arnav's reaction had been somewhat similar too, and no guessing that his anger was displayed more easily than Ajay did.
When the telephone conversation ended this time, Khushi turned to see a very exhausted Ajay. He ran a hand through his hair, and pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering to himself, "Where are you, Anjali?"
