Producers: Balaji Telefilms
Time: Monday to Friday, 10:30 pm
TVR: 12.84 It's been the numero uno of the Indian television industry for more than five years now. To its credit, Kyun Ki still has magical magnetic powers that attract viewers from age 8 to 80. Now with the introduction of the new generation including Balaji's latest find -- Mouni Roy (left, Krishna Tulsi) the serial looks all set to rule the scene for another few years at least. Or until the time viewers get sick and tired of the perennial list of problems bugging the Virani family.
2, Kahani Ghar Ghai Ki
Channel: Star PlusProducers: Balaji Telefilms
Time: Monday to Thursday, 10 pm
TVR: 10.54 While other serials were incorporating 20 year leaps in the age of the characters, Kahani tried something very bold. It got its sati-savitri bahu -- Parvati Bhabhi remarried!
The risk they faced: the audience would be able to digest the second marriage of someone considered to be the epitome of a cultured Indian woman. But Balaji packaged it well. Parvati's reason for marrying Mr Mehra was to take revenge for her husband Om's murder. The result? Kahani is the number two show in the country today.
3. Kasauti Zindegi Kay
Channel: Star PlusProducers: Balaji Telefilms
Time: Monday to Friday, 8:30 pm
TVR: 9.22 The idea of time-leaps in serials seem to be working well for Balaji. Kasauti Zindegi Kay took a five-year leap recently. Now Mr Bajaj is absconding and Prerna is on the streets.
Coupled with the entry of the mother of all vamps, Komolika, Kasauti seems to have gained a lot of lost ground and climbed back to the number three slot.
4. Kahin To Hoga
Channel: Star PlusProducers: Balaji Telefilms
Time: Monday to Friday, 11 pm
TVR: 7.18 Though Rajeev Khandelwal's exit was a major setback for the serial, it regained its popularity despite the late-night slot. The credit mostly goes to Tinu Anand, a new entrant in Kahin To Hoga. The show reached a high when Tinu married Amna Sharief.
And now, with Tinu's death, surprisingly, things seem to have gotten even better!
5. Kkavyanjali
Channel: Star Plus
Producers: Balaji Telefilms
Time: Monday to Friday, 9:30 pm
TVR: 6.3
Producers: B R Films
Time: Monday to Thursday, 9 pm
TVR: 6.22 If you had any doubts about Neha Dhupia's famous statement -- only sex and Shahrukh Khan sells -- watch Viraasat. The controversial lovemaking scene between Sangita Ghosh and Rohit Roy created a lot of hue and cry -- so much that the scene had to be reshot and toned down. Little wonder that Viraasat is the sixth most popular Hindi serial.
Producers: Hats Off
Time: Friday to Sunday, 9:30 pm
TVR: 5.97 An Aatish Kapadia and JD Majethia production -- of Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai and Instant Khichdi fame -- this serial presents life through the emotions and temperaments of its cast. The prime reason for Baa Bahoo Aur Baby's entry into the top 10 list is the stellar performance of Deven Bhojwani as Guttu, an autistic boy. Last week, he started going to office. You will have to wait and watch to see what happens next.
8. The Great Indian Laughter Challenge
Channel: Star OneProducers: Endemol India
Time: Fridays, 10 pm
TVR: 5.83 The popularity of the show can be gauged from the fact that despite being a re-run, TGILC is still able to find a place in the top 10 list. In these days of blasts and bad news, all of us do need a good dose of laughter, don't we? And what better way to release our tension than to watch TGILC.
Producers: Sphere
Time: Monday to Friday, 9:30 pm
TVR: 5.66 If there was one reason for the success of Saat Phere, it would surely be Rajashree Tahur's portrayal of Saloni's character. The serial is the story of Saloni, a dark complexioned 24-year-old girl, whose talent is overshadowed by her complexion.
The serial tells you how Saloni manages to overcome the problems faced by her in today's society
10. Kasamh Se
Channel: Zee TvProducers: Balaji Telefilms
Time: Monday to Friday, 9:00 pm
TVR: 5.64 A Balaji serial with a difference, Kasamh Se has always been a favourite amongst the urban audience, thanks to the novel storyline and stellar performances by Ram Kapoor and Prachi Desai.
The latest twist to the tale -- Bani decides to stay away from her husband, just when he falls in love with her -- is adding to the serial's popularity.
