Chapter 55
It had been a long night for Arnav.
He had driven around the suburbs wildly searching for her. This was after he had called the whole town asking subtly if Khushi had come to their place.
Payal had been alarmed, but Arnav had not given away details.
Khushi's parents were equally worried but Arnav had again not said anything.
He had even asked NK and Lavanya, who were worried at his question.
Since it was night, he had to call a stop to the search'
He hadn't slept a wink.
Everywhere he turned he thought he saw her.
Every small noise triggered the hope that she was back.
He had been numb with shock for a very long time, he still was. He could not believe she had left him-his sweet angelic Khushi who had always forgiven and loved him'
Words from her letter came floating back to him 'living without you is nothing less than death for me''
'No Khushi'.nothing will happen to you. I would rather die first' he told himself fiercely
He felt himself crying again'.He felt so alone-A cold, hard feeling that had left him-left him the day a beautiful girl had fallen into his arms'and had kept running into him ever since-
Her laughter,
Her mischief,
Her craziness,
Her chirpiness,
Her smiles,
Her tears,
Her arguments.
Her anger,
Her many-near accidents and falls
He had never realized till today that life had never had a dull moment without her
He had to find her,for himself, for her, for the baby-they belonged together.
He wouldn't rest till he found her'and when he did he would never let her go, never let her cry, never give her a moment to regret, and never let anything, even his Di or past come in between them.
He would give up anyone and everyone if she wanted'but he knew she would not want that'she loved his family just as much'he had made the mistake of always taking sides..
Like a man possessed he touched every belonging of hers that she had left behind-
her comb
her clips,
her few clothes...
and then his hand rested on a small baby suit...
and fresh tears filled his eyes...
Their baby.
Would he ever see the baby?
The doctor had said she could deliver anytime in the next 20 days...
A fear went down his spine
She was too pregnant to be travelling alone
What if already something had happened to her?
The agony was unbearable for Arnav and for the first time he was helpless. His money and his many possessions felt useless as he could not trace her at this moment...all his calls to her number went unanswered...
At the crack of dawn Arnav was up and about.
He hired a battery of private detectives to trace Khushi
He personally visited all the people he had called to check if Khushi really was not with them.
He tried to reason how could a heavily pregnant woman leave home without help
He had his supicion on all of them...Payal, Akash, NK, Lavanaya...someone must have helped her...
He bombarded them with questions to the extent of offending them,. He did not care, He wanted Khushi back...the rest of the world could take a walk.
He did not spare his Di too. She came under the full brunt of his fury.
'Did yu help Khushi run away from me Di?' he asked point blank
'Chote How can you ask me that and why would I do that?" she asked
'Don't know. May be she asked you for help?' he said stubbornly.
'Had she asked I would have helped. You must have hurt her. She has always been the punching bag for your anger. Though you are my brother and I love you and I know you love her, the way you treat her is sometimes very callous,' Anjali said
Arnav was hurt at that
All his fights with Khushi...most of them at least, were for his Di and now she was accusing him of callousness?
It pained him to know that
He walked away from Anjali, who watched him with sadness...
'He deserves it. If Khushi has left him it is for good reason,' NK said angrily
'NK that is not fair. You don't know what happened between them,' Lavanaya said
'Whatever happned, I know Arnav has always taken Khushiji for granted. He doesn't know how lucky he is to have someone like her in life,' he said wistfully
Lavanaya glanced at NK uncertainly, 'You sound as if you would be happy if she was your wife, as if you have a crush on her'
'You are right. I have always had a crush on her. But it is not selfish. If she is happy so am I. She loves Arnav and I was happy for her. But when she is sad, I just hate Arnav for killing such a beautiful soul like her,' NK said passionately...the first time Lavanya saw NK so angry and passionate about someone...and a strange sadness crept up her heart.
Arnav targeted Khushis doctor next
Being a pregnant woman he knew she would need her regular doctor and her regular check up since it was the last month of pregnancy she would need visits every week and then everyday...Most importantly she would need her records.
But when he met the doctor she said
'Mr Raizada? You are still in town? Your wife said you both had to travel to Bangalore and so she took her records from me. I even fought with her against travelling during this stage of pregnancy. But she said it was urgent,' she said
His last hope seemed to leave him as he collapsed on a bench in the hospital and once again buried his head in his hand...
'Where are you my angel? Please tell me' he whispered to himself...
But from nowhere came any news of Khushi...
