Irfan stuns 'Business Baazigar' finalists

Shah Rukh Khan said in his film 'Baazigar' – "Jo haar ke bhi jeet jaye, usse baazigar kehte hain." And Irfan Alam couldn't agree more. The Delhi-based entrepreneur came from behind to upset the apple cart for Puneet and Ali – the two finalists of Zee TV's path-breaking reality show, 'Business Baazigar'. But it was a sweet ending because the jury decided to fund the ventures of all the three finalists.
Irfan, who had been eliminated earlier in the show, proved the viability of his business model in a parallel show 'Mini Baazigar'. Subsequently, the jury of the show – Subhash Chandra (chairman, Zee Telefims), Mahesh Murthy (CEO, Passionfunds) and Prof Anil Gupta – accepted him as a wild card entry, making the final round a three way battle.
"I agree it's an upset victory but even from an investor's point of view, it makes more sense to fund a running venture than just an idea," said Irfan.
Interestingly, Ali, the first runner-up who was widely held to be the favourite, will not only be starting his optical fibre maintenance business in India, he has also bagged an overseas deal. "I have already tied up to take over the entire cable network business in Madagascar. I'll be branching out to other ventures soon," he revealed. Second runner-up Puneet, who had proposed a plastic bottle recycling factory, will also be launching operations shortly.
The progamme, which is partnered by Zee TV and the Aditya Birla Group, is already planning several format changes for the second season and expects the number of entries to jump five fold to 10 lakh. Besides Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath and Rajashree Birla, the finale was attended by the who's who of the business world. The final episode will be telecast on Zee TV on August 12 at 8 pm.
