Chapter 6- Awakening
Arnav was beyond furious and the pain on his foot didn't help it any better. If he had stayed there any longer, he was sure he would have regretted it later. He stomp-limped towards his suite with Aman in his tow.
How dare she! No one defied Arnav Singh Raizada ever. But she...
"AMAN!" he yelled at his assistant, turning around to see his lips fade back from a wide grin. His anger reached new heights as his voice reduced to dangerous growl.
"Do you find this funny Mr. Aman Mathur?"
Aman knew where to spot trouble as he took in the crazed look on his currently demented boss's face. He decided to keep on his poker face and talk Arnav out of his destructive mood right then.
"Answer me dammit!"
That was it. He was set on a course to destroy. He had to stop him at any cost as the girls would rattle his boss further if he harmed even a single hair of Khushi.
"If your gonna stand there and stare at me like a moron, I might--"
"Sir, calm down. Just think through this. And tell me what you want me to do then, Sir."
"I want her fired. This instant. And find me another secretary who goes by my order and not rebel me by kicking my shins with her damned heels."
"I knew you would say this. And that's why I told you to CALM DOWN and think through this Mr. Raizada," even Aman's control was slipping as Arnav continued to bash the poor girl for no fault of her own.
"What the hell do you mean by that? You are here to carry on my order. Not to preach me. Now go and do as I said!" Arnav growled out.
"Then I am bound to point out what kind of tight situation you are putting our company in Arnav," Aman regained his cool.
"I don't bother about any f**king thing. I want her out. NOW!"
"I get it. You don't care that your final event at Paris could get sabotaged if you fire her as she takes care of the entire event management without a glitch. And you don't care if your rival industries rope her in as soon as you make her walk out of here. Right Mr. Raizada. I will go immediately and type out her firing order for you to sign," Aman turned around silently as Arnav's eyes took on a calculative stance from its initial red rage.
"Wait..." he heard as he was about to step out of the room. Aman knew he had hit the target bang on.
"No need to fire her. It was just' Never mind. Forget it Aman," he bit out through clenched teeth as Aman relaxed his stance. The storm had been thwarted- "I'll take care of her high-on-head attitude myself!"- or NOT. Aman visibly stiffened as he saw Arnav's eyes glinting mischievously.
Well, he did everything in his power to stop the most dangerous situation. So this one too, could be managed by Khushi just like she did a few minutes back. He hoped so.
"And tell Saie to come to my room before you go Aman. I have some things to discuss with her. Plus, you need to keep your twin's words in check. I wont let it go again like this time," Arnav said in a stern voice.
Aman sighed turning around and walked out of the door. Cinderella, wicked Witch from west and his Evil twin were in for a storm called Prince Not-so-Charming. And he wouldn't miss the show for anything in the world as he figured out that one way or the other, the three girls would tame down his boss.
This time, it was Saie's turn first.
-----
Khushi stood there looking at the partial moon remembering the events of the past few minutes as she listened to the two girls plotting on what would have happened to Aman in the hands of the Godzilla.
She closed her eyes as she remembered Arnav's painful grip on her shoulders which would definitely leave a bruise by the morning.
And then the molten orbs in her mind turned into ink black iris and the angry look replaced by a sinister snare. Her back burned like hell as though someone had slashed it open. Khushi opened her eyes as she gasped looking around frantically trying to assure herself that her nightmare was not coming true.
The girls were by her side in a flash holding her close whispering in her ears. She couldn't make out anything they said as she still gazed into the dark shadows with the feeling of danger lurking amidst them.
Saie and Shruti shared a worried glance as they saw Khushi's skin paled into a sickening white and eyes looked around in fright. They understood that the darkness scared her and took her immediately into the nearby patio which was alight with fairylights.
Khushi started visibly relaxing by the presence of some light and looked at the girls before her. They wondered for a moment whether Arnav's actions were the cause for her fright.
"What happened Khushi?" she heard Shruti ask as she felt a warm hand on her cheek. But her eyes were still unfocused trying to regain the reality, battling desperately against her nightmare.
Khushi started forcing more air into her lungs that felt almost flattened.
"We're here Cindy. We'll never let anything harm you girl!" Saie whispered soothingly, rubbing her back slowly.
Khushi looked up to see two concerned eyes looking worried at her and then she knew. She was not alone this time. She didn't know them before. Infact, she hardly knew them now. But she felt that she could place her trust in them.
She smiled a little to show them she was alright and was engulfed in a double hug.
"Thanks!" she whispered against them.
"You scared us girl. Don't do that ever again," Shruti smacked lightly on the back of her head.
"If this is about that Villainous friend of mine, don't worry Cindy. We have got your back", Saie chirped out in her usual hyper self.
"Alright! Group hug is over. And I am mad that you forgot to include me. But not as mad as ASR is at you Maggie dearest. He wants to see you this Instant!" Aman's voice sang from behind them as he felt happy at the sight he just witnessed.
Saie let out a frustrated groan but took on a determined look.
"That moron has hell to pay for!" was the only thing Saie spat out before marching off towards the suites part of the hotel.
"This time I bet he's done for sure!" Shruti laughed out making a slash across her neck with her fore-finger.
"Tsk tsk! She loves him more than that. So, I bet on just cold shoulders for the next few days, Melodddyyy..." snickered Aman as he mimicked Saie.
But he immediately started running around the patio in circles as Shruti chased after him yelling at him with all the foul things she could think of.
Aman jumped behind Khushi and used her as his shield against Shruti, though it looked weird with his six and something feet tall form hunching behind her 5 feet delicate figure.
"Khushi! Move aside and let me handle that good for nothing twin of mine," Shruti puffed out irritated.
Khushi's eyes widened at the new info that Aman and Shruti were not just siblings, but twins probably birthed poles apart, she mused.
She decided to go along with their play.
"Nuh-uh sweet! Someone should be here to save your poor brother nah. Afterall, he just went into the lion's den all alone for us and came out in a single piece," Khushi regained her warm smile and playfulness.
Aman hugged her from behind, "See. Even she knows my worth. But you never understand your elder brother, ever!" he put on a fake solemn face.
"Elder brother My foot. You are older by just 13 freaking minutes!" Shruti spat out.
"That's right. See Khush... She made it out after 13 minutes exactly and so she got to be the evil one amongst us," Aman shrugged laying his chin on Khushi's shoulders.
"Yeah! And now I'll show you how evil I am brother," Shruti lunged at Aman behind Khushi.
But even before she could lay her claws on him, Aman fled into the garden below with Shruti still hot on his heels.
Khushi laughed as she she remembered her own feuds with Aaksah. She turned to look up at the moon that shone brightly no longer hidden beneath the clouds.
That's right. Even in the ultimate darkness, a ray of light exists, just like the friends she made in the last couple of hours. And after every dusk, the dawn lay awaiting. She had to give way to the dawn in her life. For that, she had get rid of the darkening dusk around her. This time, she might actually do it with the help of her new found friends, she hoped looking wistfully at the beautiful crescent moon.
------
Arnav stood looking at the moon coming out of its hiding. Its crescent reminded him of the masterpiece he had designed for the event, after three long years. No one had seen it yet. He wanted to show it to his little Maggie first. She meant the world to him now. After everything they had gone through, she was the only one who stood firm by his side and grounded him to herself through all the storms they faced. He didn't know where he would be, if she hadn't been there for him in the past 3 years especially. She pulled him out of his self-imposed gloom and never gave up on him, no matter how hard he pushed her away.
He was pulled out of his thoughts as his door banged open suddenly and Saie walked in with an irritated expression.
"You are here finally. I wanted to--" Arnav was rudely cut off.
"You wanted to WHAT? Go bat-shit-crazy on me for supporting the poor girl over you Arnav!" and Arnav knew he was in for a yelling when he heard her use his actual name. The one thing every single soul knew was that Saie never calls people with their actual name as she always pulled up weird nicknames for them and stuck with it. She using their original name simply meant, trouble in paradise.
"Maggie. Look. I didn't mean to do it. It was just--"
"Yeah. Go and tell a baby that what you did down there was unintentional and maybe it would choose to believe you. But not me. Did you think I was that stupid Raizada?"
Oh no! She used his second name. Did he really push her over the edge this time?
"Why are you getting all emotional over the girl you barely know Maggie? You consider her more important than me!" he tried to pacify her not realizing his query only aggravated her more.
She threw her hands in the air, "You and your humongous ego Arnav! Shove it up--"
"Stop it Saie! Don't you dare!" Arnav glared at her and something snapped in her.
How dare he! She had seen the haunted expression on Khushi's face after her encounter with him. The girl looked as pale as she had seen a monster. And here he was nonchalant about what he did to the poor girl. She was blinded by rage.
"WHAT? What did you think of me Arnav? The good Samaritan who stays by you through all your BS's. Well here's your rain check. I AM NOT! First you just call me up and demand me to come here picking up a freaking necklace and then you don't even welcome me for a courtesy to the least, then you desert me amidst your party filled with the dumbest freaks ever and then prance around forcing yourself on my newest best friend. YOU THINK I'LL BE SCARED OF YOU! DID YOU THINK I WOULD LET YOU OFF THE HOOK THAT EASILY THIS TIME? You screwed up Arnav Singh Raizada. YOU SCREWED UP BIG TIME!" she screamed out leaving his room in flash, banging the door shut behind her.
Right! He had definitely pushed her off the edge this time. But she always knew his affiliation to women folk. So he didn't understand what would have caused her to react against him this way. She had never before stranded him like this since they met. And they had met when she was just a tiny bundle in his Aunt's arms. She always came to him, even after he had pushed her down once in his rage. She had cried lying on the ground and he had turned away hating himself for hurting her, but she had stood up and put her tiny plump arms around him and buried her head in his chest. He was happy that she had not pushed him away like he did and patted her head as he said sorry. But once she looked up with a mischievous grin, he looked down to see that the brat had infact extracted her revenge by wiping her snot on his shirt. He had picked her up and pulled her over his back like a potato sack threatening to dump her into his pool while she had shrieked gleefully.
He remembered that memory wistfully.
What went wrong now, that she actually left him alone for the first time? Left him for that -girl! He looked back up at the sky to see the moon shining brightly.
He had to apologize to her, he decided. He would let her cool down for the night and ask her forgiveness in the morning. With that last thought in his mind, he changed and went to bed calling it a night.

So Mr Aman-the-Mathur is not a lucky guy in your story as well! Poor guy still suffers and takes yelling from our own ASR! Tsk! For all the Amans in the world, this had to had to had to happen, right?! But your version of Mr Aman-the-Mathur gives sensible suggestions as well... I like it...!
And as usual, Arnav-the-Singh-the-Raizada behaved impulsively - ordering to fire Khushi! Hark - dare he do that! You have a battalion of people in support of Ms Khushi-the-Kumari-the-Gupta who would eat Mr Arnav-the-Singh-the-Raizada raw if he does that!
"And tell Saie to come to my room before you go Aman. I have some things to discuss with her. Plus, you need to keep your twin's words in check. I wont let it go again like this time," Arnav said in a stern voice.
Me? To his room? Why???? - This was the first question that popped into my mind when I read it. But then - slowly and slowly and slowly the rest of the words sank in. Aman and Shruti are twins! I know you told me there is more to them being just siblings! But this one is just tooo good! And the way they fought - aww - that was so adorable!
And he wouldn't miss the show for anything in the world as he figured out that one way or the other, the three girls would tame down his boss.
And that was fascinating! Taming Mr Arnav-the-Singh-the-Raizada..! *Ooo - there - you just got my adrenaline rushing at the speed of a Lamborghini!
I love the girls bonding together. I loved the entire scene where Saie and Shruti cheered and supported Cindy up (I would have written 'Ms Khushi-the-Kumari-the-Gupta', but it's too long to type again and again! So Cindy is it... Saie kept this nickname for her, right? So I can definitely call her by that name! I'm at an advantage here - I can type 'Cindy' as many times as I want - it serves dual purpose - I can type and comment faster and it sounds cccuuuttteee!)
Speaking of nicknames - looks like Saie has a habit of calling people -rather - calling ANYONE with a special nickname from her! That's just so sweet!
And then came the last part and I was blown away! BAAAMMM! What was that? Feisty? Neah - I'm his cousin (Ooo - I'm his cousin! I'm his cousin! I'm his cousin! Little sister!!!! The only one whom he trusts! I'm his cousin! I'm his cousin!!!!) - so scolding? Don't think so! Turning the world upside-down types? Doesn't seem like... (Special mention here - with you making me his cousin, it did turn my world upside down! LOL!) I can't name it. But I can tell you this much - I loovvveeeddd it! To bits...
"Tsk tsk! She loves him more than that."
I do... I really do!!!
Arnav has a dark past. And Saie is the one who has been always with him. What is the past???? Dying to know!
She meant the world to him now.
This line just took my breath away. For all the wrong reasons. Even though I haven't seen or lived under such situations when I had to be dependent on one single person for all the emotional support, I can imagine what it must have been like - through your words. Poignant at one time, explosive the other. Amazing job here hon!
Yes, he did go overboard in matters with Khushi, but that is who ASR is. But he has truly hurt his little sister this time. And in the process himself. His wanted to show her his masterpiece to her firsthand. That just described their bond. I don't think he would give a damn about anything else that Saie. His anticipation of the praise for his work that might follow was wonderfully depicted. I felt it! And the moment he was turned down by her yelling, my heart went to that poor guy. Agreed, he wasn't right - but he is MY cousin in the end. He knows to make things right. Even if he doesn't, the make him see and do the right moves. You know naa that I can't see him in pain! Especially when it comes from people who are so dear to him!
Fabulous update in terms of emotions, events and the dynamism between the characters! Loved it!
"I'll take care of her high-on-head attitude myself!"- or NOT. Aman visibly stiffened as he saw Arnav's eyes glinting mischievously. "
