The Kannada movie that got great reviews!👏
Gandugali Kumararama |
Kannada (U) Kapali, Prasanna, Navarang Cast: Shivarajkumar, Rambha, Anita, Laya, Srinivasamurthy, C R Simha Director: Bhargava |
Comparisons are inevitable, specially in case of Gandugali... Shivarajkumar has donned the title role that his father Rajkumar had hoped to do someday. The son does not disappoint. In fact, the film is largely a Shivarajkumar show. The gawky young man in Anand has transformed into a fine actor, letting his eyes and visage do the talking. Improved dialogue delivery and mannerisms that are eerily similar to his father, Shivanna brings the Prince of Kampli, Kumara Rama, to life, effortlessly. And Anita is a perfect foil as Ratna, his lover-turned-stepmother.👏 Srinivasamurthy, Seetha, Sumitra, C R Simha, Avinash - all have turned in textbook performances. The visuals are grandeur personified, bringing back memories of the Rajkumar starrers — both historical and mythological. There are masterpieces and pieces of art; the film sadly falls into the second category. While the background score brings back memories of the golden oldies, the songs are an anathema to the movie.
The Prince of Kampli lives on in public memory as a legendary figure, who is full of valour and sense of justice and who singlehandedly defeated Tughlaq's army. His failed love affair had disastrous consequences for him as his father married the girl, who still loved the prince. When the prince rejected her advances during the famous chendinata episode, she contrived to sully his character. A furious king ordered his decapitation. Meanwhile, Sultan Mohammed bin Tughlaq was waiting for an excuse to annex the small kingdom that had refused to acknowledge his sovereignty and pay tribute. The ensuing events finally led to the birth of the mighty Vijayanagar empire. In the movie, the director follows his instincts; somehow the sense of occasion seems to have been missed. 😕😆

Gandugali Kumara Rama |

By Moviebuzz |
Ganguli Kumara Rama directed by veteran director Bhargava, is an honest effort to portray the life and times of Kumara Rama, the 13th century chieftain belonging to a small province called Kummatadurga in the now Bellary district of Karnataka. Bhargava, an assistant to Hunasuru Krishnamurthy has directed many films including Guru Shishyaru which was in the same genre. Bhargava has done his homework well and created a perfect script that is entertaining till it lasts. A taut screenplay, good twists, powerful acting by Shivarajkumar, music and cinematography lifts up the quality of this period film. After Dr.Rajkumar's Huliya Halina Mevu in 70's, his son Shivarajkumar has to be commended for picking up this subject. Several folk songs and material evidence have chronicled Kumara Rama as a great warrior who stood up against Muhammad-Bin-Tughlaq and other encroachers from neighbouring provinces. The valiant junior king of the Kampila dynasty before the Vijayanagara Empire coming into existence in Karnataka is Kumara Rama (Shivarajkumar). The son born to maid servant from his father Kampilaraya is 'Channa Rama' (Shivarajkumar again) is the Robin Hood of 13 th century. For valiance, effortless solving of problems, Hindu Muslim unity and daring nature, Kumara Rama acquires the prefix as 'Gandugali'. Kumara Rama has uphill tasks before him. The girl he loves Rathna (Anitha) becomes his father's wife. She however lusts after him and inspite of such a personal crisis, he concentrates on expansion of his territory. He faces tough enmity from Mohammad Bin Tuglak of Delhi. At this time Mathangi (played by Rambha) ask Kumarama to accept her as his wife but he stands by the promise that all women are like mother to him except Ramale his wife. Mathangi joins the team of Tuglak and thus in the war Kumara Rama is killed in deceitful tactics and Kampila is set on fire. Thus the empire crumbles. Shivarajkumar has proved that he is completely at ease in a historical film too. He has taken tips from his father Dr.Rajkumar's films like Mayoora, Sri Krishnadevaraya and Babruvahana. He has shown fantastic improvement in dialogue delivery the most important aspect for historical film. Veteran actors Srinivasa Murthy, Ramesh Bhat, Seetha and Avinash have also put in good performances. Among the heroines, it is Anitha who takes the cake. 😳👏 Four songs of music director Gurukiran with good production values on screen gives a treat to the eyes. Sundarnath Suvarna's camera is outstanding and on the whole it is worth a watch. Verdict: Good http://sify.com/movies/kannada/review.php?id=14265266&ct id=5&cid=2427 |
