More bikini show in Dhoom 2
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 9, 2006 - 05:44 IST
Dhoom 2 is what everyone wants to know about. The sequel to the 2004 hit Dhoom, this film will also be full of action, style and hot women. And here's some exclusive dope on the film. Earlier, there was a buzz that Aishwarya Rai will be seen in a bikini in the film. Now, adding to it, we have known that even Bipasha Basu will be sporting a bikini in Dhoom 2.

Besides, the promo of Dhoom 2, which will be going live on Indiafm.com very soon, ends with a scene where Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai jump from a very high mountain cliff. Looking at the shot we could surely say that nothing like this has been seen in an Indian film before. Also, the overall promo looks very sleek and has an international look. Now, if the promo itself is so promising, we can't wait to see how the movie is going to be like.

Let's wait and see whether Farhan does indeed give Sushma some concession in the film with a lengthier role.

By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 10, 2006 - 02:31 IST
Ram Gopal Varma's new film Darling is going through a mammoth change in its starcast ever since it's inception. The film earlier titled Baby was initially supposed to be starring Randeep Hooda but he subsequently opted out of the film. He was replaced by Fardeen Khan.

Then the leading lady was supposed to be Lara Dutta who too opted out of the film and Esha Deol took the advantage by signing up. Now the latest buzz is that the other leading lady Bipasha Basu has too walked out of the film citing date problems. The person who has taken advantage of the situation is none other than Isha Koppikar.

Incidentally Isha has another RGV film in hand Shabri where she plays the title role. Ram Gopal Varma understood Bipasha's problem and did not waste time in replacing her. Incidentally Isha had recently walked out of Suneel Darshan's Shaka Laka Boom Boom.

Aarti Chabria to do the Indian version of Kill Bill
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 10, 2006 - 03:05 IST
Aarti Chabria may not be much visible on the Bollywood circuit but down south she is quite a rage. Having already wowed the Telugu audiences with her previous 2 films, she has now added another substantial role to her kitty with Janardhan Maharishi's untitled venture. In her next Telugu film, she plays the role of a terrorist having a split personality.

Inspired by the western action saga Kill Bill, Aarti is also handling all the action scenes on her own! Her team members have started calling her ' Matrix', after seeing her perform action sequences. Apart from doing special training for the action sequences, Aarti has also colored her hair jet black to suit the roles. Says a seemingly excited Aarti, "After a long time I have got a chance to show my talent in portraying some different roles and I'm sure my fans will appreciate my new avatars."

Coming back to Bollywood, Aarti has bagged an interesting role in Apoorva Lakhia's multi-starrer 'Shoot out at Lokhandwala'. Aarti will be portray the character of a conservative Muslim girl who falls in love with an underworld Bhai played by Tusshar Kapoor. Talk about chalk and cheese!
Abhishek Bachchan talks shop
Subhash K Jha |
Why are you suddenly so out of the media loop? It wasn't intentional. It's just unfortunate. I've been travelling abroad and have also been shooting in India . I haven't had the time to sit and talk to anyone lately. Your plate certainly looks full. I've always worked at this pace. I've to work with what I've got and deal with it to the best of my abilities. I'm still trying to complete one film before moving on to the next. You've two acutely antithetical films Umrao Jaan and KANK coming up one after the next. What's your take on that? It's only after I did my first period film Umrao Jaan that I realized how modern we tend to be in our everyday conduct as individuals. I had to try and forget my natural body language and demeanour and re-acclimitize myself. That was a challenge. Then again , when you've a director like J.P Dutta Saab he guides you through any complexity. Interestingly I came to Umrao Jaan straight from KANK, straight from 'Karan's' times in New York to Lucknow in the 19th century. Has this been a very challenging time for you as an actor? No different from how it has been in the past. I've a chosen a challenging job. As my luck would have it, both Umrao and KANK are being released back to back. I'm curious to see how audiences react to these completely different characters. As long as they're entertained I'm happy. Apparently in Karan's film you play a character very close to your heart? Actors always bring a lot of themselves into their characters. At the end of the day the character is being performed by the actor and the character must therefore have elements of the actor. Karan knows me so well. He used a lot of my personality for my character in KANK. But let me tell you, it's very important for me to identify with the character I play. Otherwise I can't play him convincingly. How was it working with Shah Rukh in KANK? Only after you work with Shah Rukh do you truly understand why he is who he is and why he enjoys his position. He's such a humble and unassuming person in real life. When you work with him you realize he's Shah Rukh Khan not because he tries to be, but because he's amazingly good at what he does. My advice to any actor who works with him is to interact with him off the sets for a week before shooting begins. I was bowled over by him as an actor and as a human being. I've never seen a more hard-working actor. On the sets he was always there for Karan and for his co-stars…He made sure everyone ate and performed properly. You seem totally bowled over. I really hope I get to work with him again. Shah Rukh is an immensely generous actor. He almost concentrates more on getting the other actor's performance right in a scene than his own! When I was stuck in a scene he readily helped me out. It's been a fantastic experience. The amount I've learnt from him about conduct as a person and an actor is insurmountable. He truly deserves his superstardom. He works hard for it, and he makes sure others work equally hard. I'm truly overwhelmed by Shah Rukh. And Preity? KANK was our first film together apart from a little bit of work in Salaam Namaste, when she was just lying on an operation table and screaming . She was no longer lying down in KANK. But she was still shouting at me. She's brilliant in KANK. She claims you can out-chatter her. With Preity it's a bit of an ego problem. Since I'm a very sore loser I've to try and out-do her in talking. I love Preity. She's one of the nicest persons I've met. I'm so looking forward to working with her again in Shaad Ali's Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom. It's going be a fun film. It's exciting because of the cast. Preity, of course, who's one of my favourite people on earth. Then there's Bobby Deol whom I've known since I was a kid. I've always had the desire to work with him. How was it working for the the sequel to Dhoom ? One of the plus points of doing a sequel is you already know the character. I play the same character. That makes it easier for me to play him. Then there's an equation already built with the crew. So you automatically get into the groove. The exciting part is to build a new mood in the given parameters. We can't serve the same thing to the audience. It's a new cast and a new plot. Hopefully it will be much better and bigger than the first Dhoom. And Hrithik? Dhoom 2 is my second film with Hrithik after Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. He isn't just hard-working. He's several notches above that. Through his hard work he pushes me to work . He's only bothered with how best he can do his job, and how to push harder towards excellence with every role, and that's infectious. What's wonderful about actors like Shah Rukh and Hrithik is they aren't just concerned about their own performance but also their film. It's great fun just hanging out with him. Dhoom 2 was a party. How's it working with Madhavan in Mani Ratnam's Guru? We got to know each other really well when I was doing a remake of his Tamil film Run. I'm very fond of Maddy and his wife Sarita. It's wonderful to get in front of the camera with Maddy. How's it working with Ratnam again? Yuva was a turning point in my career. And all credit to Mani Ratnam for this. Guru is a challenge. Mani likes to push his actors. He likes to break conventions. He gives you a scene , then you work it out as logically as you can. He then takes it and flips it around completely. He likes to go against the grain. The actor had better rise to the occasion. What's on the anvil? After Shaad's film is over, I'm doing a film with my friend Goldie Behl. Drona is the working title. After Goldie's film I go on to Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar 2. Then I move on to Rakeysh Mehra's Delhi –6. After that it will be Rohan Sippy's film next year. You and Rakeysh Mehra go back a long way. Yes, I'm very excited to finally work with him. Rakeysh and I were both supposed to do our first feature film together. It never worked out . We've been trying to collaborate for ten years now. Every year we'd think of an idea. It never worked out. I'm glad we finally cracked it. Delhi 6 is a very interesting subject. You are suddenly endorsing so many products. How come? My criteria to endorse a brand is simple. Would I use the product and am I comfortable endorsing the product? It's very important for the brand ambassador to have faith in the product. They choose me, then I choose them. I believe in the products I endorse.

Are very conscious of your public conduct?

You've to be true to yourself in your private and public conduct. We have to realize that we've a huge responsibility towards the public. They look at us to set examples and we've to be conscious of that. Having said that I must say I'm what I am and I behave the way I've been brought up to behave.

MUSIC REVIEW OF KABHI ALVIDA NA KEHNA

"A Love...that broke all relationships", the tagline describes it as a film about passionate love and broken relationships that crosses all boundaries. It's the world of Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' ('KANK') that makes the biggest impact in Bollywood this year. Karan Johar, the epitome of modern romantic films, showers his directorial and creative expertise in this beautifully presented emotional saga after the colossal success of super hits like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum' and 'Kal Ho Na Ho'. 'KANK' adulates the supreme star power of Bollywood with the impressive presence of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee in the lead roles. The biggest and best possible assemble of stars makes it the costliest, worthiest and the most significant endeavor of the year 2006. Shankar Ehsaan Loy (SEL), the prodigal musical trio is back in top gear with mind-blowing youthful soundtracks that show different colors of human emotions (ecstasy, pleasure, pain, sufferings). The musical trio swept all the award functions by winning "Best Music Director" for 'Bunty Aur Babli' last year and creating a rage with the year's biggest hit "Kajra Re" ('Bunty Aur Babli'). Their musical glory and success in Bollywood is attributed to the success of other super hit film albums like 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Kal Ho Na Ho', 'Lakshya', 'Kuch Na Kaho' etc. SEL have composed music for the "Commonwealth Games 2006" held at Australia and has been associated with the music in "Afro-Asian Games" and "National Games". The music of 'KANK' has the contemporary urban zest that has earlier been felt in SEL composed albums like 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Kal Ho Na Ho'. The 'KANK' music promises listening delight with urban funky touch with seven youthful original soundtracks. These Javed Akhtar's poetically rendered soundtracks can be heard on "SONY BMG".

KABHI ALVIDA NA KEHNA: A melancholic piano, touchy flute coupled with free flowing violin chorus echoes out the heartfelt emotions and preludes to poetically refined verses -- "Tum Ko Bhi Hai Khabar, Mujhko Bhi Hai Pata, Ho Raha Judaa, Dono Ka Rasta, Dur Jaa Ke Bhi Tum Meri Yaadon Mein Rehna" in the emotionally distressing title track "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna". A song about immortal love bonding, compassion, happiness, sorrow and suffering of lovers gets the voices of Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. The soundtrack epitomizes the silhouetted depictions of inhibited emotions of the protagonist through mellifluously rendered phrases and verses. It's a song where the lovers are in a state of separation but share nostalgic moments of togetherness with a promise of "never say goodbye" ("Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna"). Slow and free flowing tabla rhythm loop, mixed and matched piano beats and snappish flute renditions carry the heart-felt sentiments of the entire song. It has shades and glimpses of SEL's earlier rendered title tracks for 'Kal Ho Na Ho' and promises to lift spirits for the film and album. GREAT MUSICAL WORK!!!

MITWA: "Mitwa…love will find a way", a boisterous outrage of lover, an animated expression of love, a feel of turbulent emotions is all set to rule the hearts and charts. The hard rock guitar strings along with fine concoction of auto-phonic instruments is garnished with rendition of classical Indian "ragas" by Shafaqat Amanat Ali Khan (lead singer of Pak pop group "Fuzon") in the youthful soundtrack "Mitwa". Its Sufi pop soundtrack sung with energetic pace, musical brilliance and poetic affluence. This "yuppie" feel number is a winner by all standards and probably the best possible male solo number of this year. Shafaqat Amanat Ali Khan's singing brilliance has already been tasted in his latest released album "Fuzon- Saagar" where he has mixed classical "ragas" into lively pop numbers. SEL have the best of him with fine voice modulation mixed with fine musical set up to make this an unforgettable number. Besides Shafaqat, there is a brief vocal rendition of Shankar Mahadevan and Caralisa that spices up different flavors in the soundtrack. Shanker infuses classical "alaap" followed by westernized moaning of "Love will find a way" by Caralisa. Shafaqat's panache for classical singing is reflected in extra-stretched classical "alaap" in the later stages that depict a lover's "never say die" emotions for his beloved. "Mitwa" will be listening feast for the ears and will be one of the biggest hits of this year. OUTSTANDING!!!

"Mitwa (Revisited)" brings the "disco" feel and gives many reasons to shake a leg on the dance floors. SEL and Indrajit Sharma have remixed the soundtrack "Mitwa" in a conventional "club" musical format. It gives out "party together" feel with the hip "n" hop flavor to rock the floors. A flammable energetic peppy track!

WHERE'S THE PARTY TONIGHT: The hip-shaking "disco" bangs of "It's time to disco" ('Kal Ho Na Ho') and the "yuppie" ambience of "Koi Kahe" ('Dil Chahta Hai') make striking impact in the youthful soundtrack "Where's the Party Tonight". The soundtrack is initiated with keyboard generated electronic beats followed with loud renditions of tabla rhythm loop and peppy voices of Shaan, Vasundhara Das and Shanker Mahadevan. The song is about "Sapnon Ke Din" and "Sapnon Ki Raatein" (dreamy days and nights) with the big question - "Where's the party tonight?" Shaan's modulating vocals ooze out the bubbling youthful emotions supported well by equally energized Vasundhara Das. She rose to fame with "It's time to disco" and once again she moulds her voice in similar manner. Shanker Mahadevan's voice has been additional boon with added "alaap" in between the phrases of the soundtrack. It has been choreographed effectively on Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta in flashy disco lights. The soundtrack is above average lively number that spices up the occasion and fits well in the situation of the film.

TUMHI DEKHO NA: The soft sentimental romanticism melts honey through finely executed melodious rhythms in the syrupy soundtrack "Tum Hi Dekho Na". The song starts off with melodramatic piano beats (opera touch) giving romantic instrumental touch to the number. Sonu Nigam's penetrating voice sings out the inhibited romantic feeling with ever reliable and melodious Alka Yagnik vocals singing in tandem. The rhythmic piano beat is amalgamated with sweet "n" melodious flute and acoustic guitar strings to give it a complete romantic feel. SEL has earlier rendered "Kuch to Hua Hai" ('Kal Ho Na Ho') with similar ambience and this impresses in a big way. Javed Akhtar's heart piercing lyrical work is another big asset in making this brilliant soundtrack.

FAREWELL TRANCE: The immortal bond of love and friendship has the hangover of "never say goodbye" in soft titillating way in the instrumental work "Farewell Trance". DJ Shane has manufactured this different type of remix version that has "lounge" touch rather than the "club" mix stuff. Shweta Pandit enforces classical Indian musical "alaap" in this soothing number whereas Caralisa oozes out sensuous whimpers to make it thematically opulent. The mix and match of signature tune with westernized style of lounge mix makes it another fine piece of musical experimentation.

ROCK "N" ROLL SONIYE: The pompous feel of "Shava Shava" ('Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum') and the presence of magnanimous Amitabh Bachchan and impressive Abhishek Bachchan set the mood for the highly animated soundtrack "Rock "n" Roll Soniye". This time Shanker Mahadevan's is the chosen voice for Big B after the super musical success of "Kajre Re". The song is intoxicating blend of rock "n" roll and bhangra coagulated with techno-generated keyboard music and energetic chorus. Shaan croons out in his conventional "Indi-pop" style as he stretches out his vocal chords with "Yeh lackele se tan …" in a peculiar way. Mahalaxmi Iyer's brief rendition makes it all male dominating with Shanker Mahadevan and Shaan singing and fighting for the bigger cake. SEL has tried to create the magic of "Kajre Re" by adding rustic flavor with melodious old track "Sar Pe Topi Haath Mein Resham Ka Rumaal" in "antakshari" manner. The added jazz piano, hip-hop lyrics with bhangra beats makes it typical UK style of Bhangra number. The success and fate of the number relies on the choreography of the track but the musical presentation has been foot-tapping and entertaining.

The musical album of 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' lives up to its high profile media hype and the powerful face value. Shanker Ehsaan Loy (SEL) creates another magical musical success with one of their finest work. Despite the fact the musical trio has been repetitive but still they have created magic with seven lively soundtracks. The soundtrack "Mitwa" has already been national craze on radio channels, TV channels and discos and introduces Shafaqat Amanat Ali Khan (lead singer of Pak pop group 'Fuzon') as new effective voice in Bollywood's commercial mainstream. Besides this all the numbers have picked up aggressively on chartbusters and it shows indomitable musical strengths of the composers. The title soundtracks, "Rock "N" Roll Soniye" and "Mitwa" will be huge success in coming days and will act as catalyst for the film's success.

Great show from Great Team!

Lamba's conditions

Manisha Lamba didn't wish to be an actor but for her destiny that took her to films. An English literature graduate became a model but her ad film with Sujit Sarkar got him a role in 'Yahaan', soon followed by another stint in Madhur Bhandarkar's recently released 'Corporate'. Now, she has been acting in Zayed Khan's 'Rocky' in an important role. In a chat with the media, Lamba says that she has no inhibition in displaying her skin. However, she lays two conditions for it. First, she should know her character in the movie and second, who is directing the movie. "A good filmmaker can save a film from turning vulgar even in spite of the skin show. The body should aim at displaying the beauty and not lead to any provocation among the viewers, she adds.

Konkana's sexy image?

The 'Page 3' girl was caught making an album of her sexy photos unlike other heroines wishing their pictures published in newspapers and magazines. It is learnt from her close friends that Konkana Sen Sharma wants to prove that she is a sexy girl indeed. Well, she has an average sexy figure no doubt but would she prove herself to be sexy to the viewers is another thing. Let's leave it to their judgment.

Isha is desperate

The khallas girl Isha Koppikar is back to square one. She has been trying her best to revive her descending career graph since her last Balaji Films' 'Kya Kool Hain Hum'. The report about her affair and then her desire to settle down in life seems to have flopped, too. That's why she has declared that she doesn't mind doing bold roles. In the same breath, Isha says that she will be happy to act in movies like 'Murder'. However, it goes without saying that Isha who has done item numbers like "Khallas" and "Ishq samander…" can do anything under the present circumstances. Are the producers and the directors listening?

Ghai promotes heroines

Showman Subhash Ghai is known for his discoveries and grooming of actors, especially girls. He has given a number of smart heroines to Bollywood. However, his "products" turn hostile towards him no sooner than they leave him. He has another characteristic too ; he ignores his heroes and favors heroines while promoting his movies. The latest victim of Ghai is Akshaye Khanna. The latter complains that Ghai ignored him completely in 'Shaadi Se Pehle' and ' 36 China Town' and preferred his heroine Mallika Sherawat in the first movie. Even Shah Rukh Khan was ignored in comparison to Mahima Chaudhary in 'Parde, it is said. Akshaye is therefore banking on his forthcoming movies - Suneel Darshan's 'Aap Ki Khatir' and Anil Kapoor's 'Mahatma V/S Gandhi'.

Lara Dutta in 'Bhagambhag'

click for larger view
Though most of the former beauty queens from India have already entered the glamour world of entertainment yet some of them have excelled others. Let's take example of Aishwarya Rai who has topped Bollywood whereas Sushmita Sen has lagged much behind her in career growth. Similarly, Priyanka Chopra has been moving to the top position in the industry in comparison to her contemporary Lara Dutt who is yet to make a mark. Poor Lara has been struggling to bag a movie. Luckily though, her struggling has helped her to get Priyadarshan's 'Bhagambhag'. Incidentally, she had to face problems in the family too. No sooner she returned from Dubai after anchoring the famous Awards show than she got a bad news about his father suffering a heart attack. She rushed to Bangalore to see her ailing father but her professional duty compelled her to cut short the visit to resume shooting of 'Bhagambhag' in London.

As in the past though quite long ago, titans will again be seen competing with each other in theaters, especially in Northern India. The two veteran filmmakers will be face to face on Friday, August 11th, this year with their respective movies. This time they will be well known filmmaker Karan Johar on the one hand and the topmost TV serial producer Ekta Kapoor, on the other. Besides, both of them belong to two famous filmi families. While Karan is son of famous late Yash Johar , Ekta is daughter of veteran Bollywood actor Jitendra. Karan Johar will present his long awaited 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' , Ekta will bring her most expensive Bhojpuri movie titled 'Hum Bal Brahmachari Tu Kanya Kunwari'.

Karan's movie has a top cast comprising millennium actor Amitabh Bachchan besides super duper Shah Rukh Khan, Ekta has starred top hero Kunal Singh and dynamic actor Sikander Kharbanda. Among female stars, Karan has cast Rani Mukherjee and Priety Zinta while Ekta has brought in Bhojpuri number one heroine Divya Desai. Similarly, the power-packed Ekta has left nothing to chance and has provided the music by Vinay Behari and added masala by providing Hanuman Chaalisa (Ode to Hanuman) to her movie to attract more audience. When asked why she didn't defer her movie release, she says that it relates to the rural folk and cannot therefore be delayed any more from its viewer ship. Karan Johan, on the other hand, has canceled its premiere celebrations in a big way following the recent bomb blasts in Mumbai, he adds.
