Guys I am going to PM only tomorrow. Updating today for some special friends who had asked for the update. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Also this time I request you to let me know how many to keep on in the buddy list. Either respond through like or comment. The list is getting long and I am kind of finding it difficult to pm. Thanks for the help.
Keep reading as ARHI hit a rocky road...
Chapter 54
Arnav had not been able to make any progress with Khushi though it had been a day since he had let out those harsh words.
Nothing had helped.
He had tried apology.
He had tried sweet talking.
He had tried romancing.
But she was like a stone wall, that could not be penetrated.
He was angry with himslef and with his Di too. Had she told him where she had been, he would not have picked on Khushi, he reasoned.
'Di, why don't you inform me when you go out for long hours. I get worried. You know that,' Arnav said.
'So stop worrying Chote. I am a grown woman. I can take care of myself,' Anjali said.
'No Di, you can't. Moreover, I want to take care of you. Next time don't disappear like this and do let me know if you do. By the way what is wrong? Why did you have to go for counselling so long with Dr Karan' Arnav asked.
Once again Anjali averted her eyes, as her cheeks flamed. She refused to look at him and said 'Chote, I have some issues which I can't share with you. We are grown up now Chote. We need to give each other space.
I can't answer you all the time about where I go, how long I go and why I go, just the same as you can't.
We both have a life beyond this brother-sister bond and you need to understand that. Moreover all your protection could not save me from Shyam. So though you try hard chote, fate has its own plans.
So just relax and carry on with your life. And let me carry on mine,' Anjali said.
Arnav was stunned. This is was Di speaking? His di? Why didn't she let him in to her life? Arnav was confused and hurt and he walked away...
Anjali watched him walk away.
How could she tell Arnav the things she was going through?
When Karan hugged her, she felt a new something in her. She felt guilty about it. Her values did not permit it.
And she had hugged him back. She had wanted to give him all her warmth and comfort in that minute. She had wanted to take away his pain for just a few moments.
She had finally broken the contact and walked away after putting him to sleep. But in those minutes Anjali felt she was a new woman...she actually felt something for Karan...and she knew she should not.
She did not want to explain anything anymore to anyone, no matter how much they loved her. She would make her own mistakes, do things she believed in and would not explain to anyone why she did anything...
because she had a right over her life...
'Khushi I will be very late today. I have a conference at Noida. Don't wait for me or worry about me,' he said as he saw her putting away a few baby things.
Silence.
'Khushi Di is also going to Naniji's to take care of her as she is ill. You will be alone. I will call you regularly to check if you are fine,' Arnav said.
Silence
'And yes, have your tablets and food on time,' Arnav said. He knew he would get no answer. She was treating him like a stranger and he hated it. He had always hated it when she did not talk to him.
He whirled her around as gently as possible to look into her face...the beloved face he would die without seeing everyday.
'Khushi please. am sorry baby. I really am. I ...won't do it again. I know it is not good enough. But just once...once forgive me. I will live it up this time. Please Khushi. Please look at me it is killing me,' he pleaded.
She looked up then, a look which pierced his heart.
There was a lot of anguish in ths eyes.
There was anger
There was something more...as if her eyes were capturing every line of his face...a searching look...
'khushi. I don't deserve to be forgiven...but please do. You know I love you,' he pleaded hugging her.
She let him hug her. He even felt her clutching him tightly. His heart found hope that she would get over it.
'Please take care till I am back...take care of you and junior,' he said lightly touching her baby bump
Her eyes suddenly grew misty and she walked away...
Arnav sat in his office brooding over his conversation with Anjali...and thinking about his lack of any conversation with Khushi...
Di was right. They were grown up. He had to let go.
The 16 year old arnav had been so used to taking care of his lonely and broken Di that he had never outgrown it.
Now that Di wanted it, he had to.
His parents death, Di's broken marriage, her vulnerability had pushed him into the role of her father and not just her brother. And then shyam problem had added to his protectiveness.
But he realized this was the umpteenth time he had hurt Khushi for his Di and he would have to stop.
He acknowledged that Khushi was his future and his happiness and he was being unfair to her.
He realized he would have to undo his mistakes. Put her above or equal to his family in terms of loyalty.
He also had to forget what her father had done to Di because it was no fault of hers...
He closed his eyes 'I will make up for this Khushi. I promise' he said... and then work overtook him
It was past midnight when he came home. He had taken his duplicate key with him so as not to diisturb anyone when he got back.
He was worried. Khushi had not picked the phone all day and he was unable to rush home from the conference where his clients had come. He also assumed she was angry and not answering his calls. But he was still unsure.
He quickly went up to his room, so that he did not disturb anyone.
When he came to the bed, he switched on the bedside lamp, to catch a glimpse of Khushi...something he always did...and he had to check if she was fine
When he turned he was shocked to see she was not there.
Alarmed he went up to the guest rooms and then downstairs...a feeling of dread settled over his heart as he remembered the last time he had not found Khushi...she had left him then...
No. She is pregnant...she can't leave, he told himself.
He ran down to the kitchen the dining room all the rest rooms and even Anjali di's room. Nowhere was a sign of Khushi.
Panic gripped his heart as he ran up...remembering her tearful face in the morning...
He reached the room and opened the cupboards to see if her clothes were there...
And then he knew...It was all gone...most of her clothes, all the baby stuff, everything...it was blank and then he found a letter in the cupboard.
He opened it hastily and started reading it...
'Bye Arnav. Our marriage is not meant to be. We will always have something between us...always a past that wll prick.. a present which lves in the shadow of the past and a future..I dont know how it will escape this shadow. I don't want our child to grow up in the shadows of the past...he or she needs only love ...may be I am wrong Arnav in leaving you.
I had to go. Living without you is nothing less than death for me...and if anything does happen to me while delivering the child, I will ask the child to be given to you safely...
Take care...always take care of your health...and remember Khushi Kumari Gupta never stopped loving you, no matter what you put her through.
But she cannot live with you in the shadow of hate,,,,'
Arnav did not realize he was crying.
'No...No...No Khushi...Noo you cannot go...I can't live without you Khushi...no Khushi...no...Khushiii' he screamed in agony, desperately hoping she was somewhere at home and she would hear him and come back to him...but all he heard was the echo of his voice in an empty house where he had once loved and lived his life with Khushi
But Destiny had defeated ASR truly this time...because all his wealth could not bring his love to him...and could not stop his heart from breaking into a million pieces...
