How can Ahem help in this family situation?
Jigna is not his contemporary, his cousin or sister or his wife to help. She is his aunt. She wants to get married but his mum opposes it due to her age and societal perception. Therefore in Ahem's mind he believes that it is best to let his mum decide in dealing with his situation.
He did return home and found out about this. He was changing when Gopi came in to give him his tea. He looked on at her face as it reflected the situation whilst he took his tea. He knew she will know more of the happenings and wanted to find out more.
The discussion turned out not what he expected but what he had never thought about. He believed his mother was absolutely right in her decision. He felt she had justified her decision on Jigna's age and societal perceptions. Little did Ahem know until he was reminded by Gopi of her studying at her age. Her words left him thinking.
What makes this scene between Ahem and Gopi fascinating was to watch the burden resting on both their shoulders, the patience and calmness in listening, communicating and reasoning, the looks Ahem gave at both times when Gopi mentioned her studying and more so when Gopi told him that everyone deserved a partner.
This scene shows their growing husband wife relationship, their closeness with each other, their love for each other and their participation in family matters. When nani left she told her daughter that she did not see closeness between Ahem and Gopi, will she get to notice it now?
