She has to epitomize and celebrate the feminine assets of a young woman that can allure, and enrapture the opposite gender. This physical attractiveness thus gives her the bonus of becoming the second wife of the infamous Don Anna. We see her initially as the strange pujran in a religious procession who by some principled well concealed feat of evilness robs her husband Anna's arch enemy, the young don Dutta of his senses temporarily, enough to assist in his wife's kidnapping. However we also behold her as the illustriously breathtaking lady of Anna's haveli, garbed in exquisite boldly coloured sarees bedecked with heavy gold ornaments that accentuate her beauty even more. She appears less of the kitchen homely geared woman and more of a wife preoccupied with the pleasant task of keeping her husband impressed and charmed by her adornment. Yet there is more to her than meets the eyes..
For, She has to be, as the saying goes !not just a pretty face! Subalaxmi is thus the beauty with brains as well, for coupled with her mesmerizing charm is an able and smart energetic mind that facilitates Anna's unworthy unlawful activities.
She is a sought after criminal activist cum advisor for her husband Anna, for she is the one who incites, organizes and then implements the kidnapping of Nakusha with a view to incapacitate Dutta.
There is evidence then that despite being her husband's advisor this stunning female has a touch of cold bloodedness in her which stands her side by side him in his crime riddled life as one who aids and abets him which thus makes her an accomplice in every operation undertaken outside the parameters of decency and law.
On the other hand she is well grounded in her faith beliefs, and is an ardent prayer and wisdom seeker from deities, a quality in her that her husband relies upon. She impresses upon her husband that she seeks forgiveness for his many transgressions, which in turn gives him the complacency that he stands purified and blessed. Strangely enough it seems to him she and her puja pat is a buckler and shield for him.
Hence on surface they appear a happily married couple, where both come across in love with each other. His stance is that he loved Subu that's why he married her and graced her with the position of superseding his first wife. Subu too has no reason to doubt his love and can do anything and everything to vouch her love for him, however things transform after Anna gets a glimpse of what Dutta's wife really looks like, and we see a transformation in Subu's character.
But alongside we also get sightings of her being gullible to her husband's manipulative words when he attempts to convince her and justify his reasons into marrying Nakusha. This then is the moment where weakness sets in Subu's otherwise steadfast character and a reform occurs in her. But here another force exerts this change and its not love for her husband but a call from the past.
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"!, Suba, no longer is the tender loving wife , she takes the role of a woman who is being taken for a ride by her husband. Such is her disclosure to Naku when she clarifies her husband 's heinous notion of marrying Naku. Her reaction to her husband's intended molestation of Nakusha is not only to protect the vulnerable Nakusha another man's wife, but to preserve her own role as Anna's wife... which triggers off a realization..
History repeats itself is what we see in Subu now, she had stolen the rightful place of Anna's first wife and now fate has put her in the same scenario, but this also brings the realization that her husband is a man who never really loved her, he only loved her beauty and he would abandon her without any moral qualms to marry yet another woman who is younger and prettier, if he found one .. she confesses before Nakusha that what Dutta has for her is true love for he is unaware of her true beauty, and loves her for her attributes.
This realization thus turns to revenge and Subu, the once devoted wife to Anna ,his support, advisor, spiritual pardon seeker, and shield metes out justice to him in the style she deems he deserves by shooting him dead... hamlet53~22.7.
