Raksha Bandhan from Telly-land
Rachna Kanwar

Mona Singh

I used to celebrate Rakhi in school and all the guys used to run away (laughs). I don't have a brother but I used to tie a Rakhi to my father and get money. I used to get such a thrill to get that 100 rupee note. In college, we used to carry different colour Rakhis. White Rakhi used to be for friendship and red and yellow were brother Rakhis (laughs).

Manini De Mishra

I think the sweetest memory is of my brother who is three years younger to me and I wanted to give him something and I didn't ask my parents for money. I kept a piggy bank and collected money and bought him a watch. More than him, my parents were completely floored as they didn't give me money and yet I bought it. I think more in spirit than anything else; my brother Pranay has remained closest to me. He is more than a brother to me, more like a son, brother, friend, everything. In times of need and otherwise he has always stood by me.

Parmeet Sethi

When we were kids, my sister Poonam had made up a song that she used to sing on Raksha Bandhan. After she got married, she used to get me my favourite cakes and pastries. I think the song was very special. ( laughs) I don't remember exactly how it went but she had composed it for me.

Amarr Upadhyay

I don't have a sister, but my cousins used to come sometimes, whenever they had time (laughs). I didn't know this festival in a major way.

Akashdeep Sehgal

Well, I hardly ever did anything special, but I enjoyed the love my sisters showered on me on Rakhi. When I was young I never used to give them money as I wasn't earning. It was just my love that they got.

Anita Hassnandani

I don't have any brother, but from my cousins I used to make loads of money and used to get gifts. It was a good feeling to know that you have them to look after you.

Chetan Hansraj

It always feels great when your sister comes home every year, rain hail or sunshine, to tie a Rakhi on your wrist. All my cousin sisters send Rakhi for me from the US by post. It is a beautiful festival. One day in a year you get to shower all your love on your sister. People are so busy with their lives, but at least on one day you show each other how much you care.

What Mona is talking about used to happen to us in school too: when we were kids, the boys used to crowd around us to get rakhis tied, and when we grew up, the same boys would run away rather than be seen having a rakhi tied to them! 😆 😆 😆
