I cannot express my happiness at the love I felt from your comments for last chapter. Even I was very emotional when I wrote it and I am so happy that you all loved it so much.
Thanks Arthi for the lovely song and Deepa, I answered your question offline
But at the same time I am very scared putting this chapter up. I guess most of you will not be happy with where this story is going. I will just say my POV.
Geet loves Maan unconditionally but his initial rejection has shattered her expectations. Hence she never shows her rights on him or expects anything from him. Can she trust his love at this point as just love and not compromise? I want not only Maan to confess but Geet to accept it too. So he needs to take it slowly and feel her pain. Also, he needs to fight for his love just the way Geet did when he broke her heart and dreams miserably.
Also, apologies once again for being late. On upside I am giving a very long update and expect long comments.
VERY IMPORTANT: Please add ritzypm as buddy to gets PMs for this FF
Chapter 34
Geet was going through many emotions as well. Her days felt long with no Maan. She missed him terribly and it felt her life was empty with him gone. Though they were more like new friends, she yearned for those few moments she spent with him. Everything reminded her of him and she was getting sucked into a depression.
Just yesterday she had gone to attend her cousin's engagement. Their closeness, smiling eyes, Nisha's blush as her fianc touched her lightly had opened her wounds. She was off course happy and Maan was a good human being and had been honest with her. He even cared for her but those moments had just made her realized of the gap between them.
It was not like she didn't know before. She also knew that Maan was trying to come to terms with their relationship. But it was all in the mind and she could not shake away the gloom in her heart. All the pent up frustration and choked emotions swirled in her heart making her feel restless and unsecure. She knew her depressing frame of mind was making her feel this way. She was trying her best to be optimistic and cheerful like always and forgo her brooding mood but Maan being away just made it so much harder for her. He was her anchor and without him she felt lost. With a sigh she realized that maybe she had too much time on her hand and that is why she was letting such thoughts cross her mind.
She tried to concentrate on the colors and the canvass but instead yet another wave of guilt and shame hit her. Tears threatened to consume her when she remembered how this morning she had run away from her own home. Meera was showing her the pictures of their trip to Goa and Geet has suddenly felt so lonely. A surge of emotion which she knew was simple jealousy had risen in her heart and she had just smiled and made an excuse of some work and left. She could not face Meera after her thoughts. How could she think so lowly?
But reality was that it was truth of her life. She could not help but wonder that how Dev and Meera's relationship was so resilient. It had just taken some simple understanding to bounce back and be a perfect couple. Maybe because their relationship was based on strong foundation!!! They both loved each other and had shared their life in true sense. Can a one sided love ever be strong? Can Maan ever love her?
Her insecurities consumed her and tears trickled down her face. She did not realize in that moment that actually her love and relationship had been far stronger and resilient to withhold such strong force of shattering dreams and her heart.
She quickly wiped away her tears as buzzing of her phone mercifully took her out of her depressing thoughts.
It was a phone from a property dealer informing her about the availability of a house in her dream location. Geet could not help but smile as finally some hope surged through her veins.
"Which one is it and what is the exact address"
Geet smiled widely as she found out that it was the corner house with access to river and an extra orchard. That was the most beautiful farmhouse on the road because it was secluded from others due to the orchard. Also, forest land started just next to it making sure that the greenery and privacy will always remain. Without a second thought Geet told the dealer that she wanted the house.
She frowned a little as the dealer further explained that due to personal problems, owners wanted to complete the sale in three days time and needed the entire money upfront. She told him that she is interested and get her time till next day to raise the required money of 1.2 Crore which was the price they finally bargained to.
She hurriedly checked all her finances. Including the two FDs her parents had created for her and her own saving she had a little over 1 C in liquid assets like shares, FDs and cash. She needed around 20 Lakhs more.
Her first thought went to Maan but then she discounted it immediately. He was not here and even if he was here, she wondered if she would have asked money from him. In her current state of mind all she could think was that she can never ask a friend for money. She was his wife with all her heart but he was just her friend so how can she ask him for money?
She then thought of asking Rahul and he would have given her the money without any questions. But then this will raise an alarm in his mind. Why will she need to go to him when she was Mrs. Maan Singh Khurana?
Only person left was her mother. But they had already done so much for her. She was already highly dejected and even envisioned the possibility that Maan may never be able to accept her and she may just become a responsibility for him – a liability. If their relationship broke, she knew her parents will support her and never treat her like a burden. But she was a self independent girl and her parents have already played their part in making her one. It was time for her to look after them and not vice-versa.
Also, it was not like this was an absolute necessity. It was just her dream, her desire. She will try her best to achieve it but if she can't…she will let go of it for another day. With resolution she decided to just check her finances again to see f she could squeeze some more somehow.
As she got up, the canvas she was working on tripped and fell down. Her colors splashed onto the canvas and she suddenly got an idea. Geet called her gallery director and asked her if there were any auctions scheduled for next day.
Mrs. Dixit was quite surprised and asked her why she needed that. There was indeed an auction next day at "Kala Sansar" and she could get her in. But she was also fully aware that Geet had been working on a fixed consignment for last three months for a corporate to provide them with a set of paintings and hence there was nothing to auction in first place.
"I know mam, but I need some money urgently...hmmm…for something personal. And I know I don't have many but I have some old paintings which I want to auction."
Mrs. Dixit got her the ticket and Geet went ahead and auctioned some of her old paintings. Though she was a new artist but still relatively well known and she was able to generate 10 lakhs even on such a short notice. But she stayed disappointed and only hoped that she will be able to convince the dealer to shave off another 10. But in her heart she knew that the property was sought after and she had this chance purely because they were in a hurry to sell. That did not mean that the opportunity will last forever.
As she walked away disheartened, she bumped into Mr. Arjun Singhania, the art lover and a businessman who had just bought all her paintings.
"Ms Geet, I am a big fan of yours and it is a pleasure to own a part of you."
Geet narrowed her eyes a little bit at his flirty comment but maintained a straight face.
"Hello Mr. Singhania, some things only give an illusion of being owned but can't be."
Arjun laughed out loudly – "Oh I have always admired your humor along with your talent."
Geet just smiled and started to move on when Arjun stopped her – "Ms. Geet I have a proposition for you. You see you rarely engage in private auctions and I just want to make best of the opportunity I have. I am very interested in buying one of your painting - "Hope".
"Hope"
"Yes "Hope" I fell in love with it when I saw it's picture in an Arts journal. I am ready to pay your price with a promise to keep it safe and cherish it."
As an instinct Geet was going to just reject and tell him that "Hope" was not for sale. But then she thought about the farmhouse. Yes, "Hope" was her first painting. A part of her career and her dream. But then, she could paint again but will she ever get a chance to own her dream house. "Hope" was now a reality, something which she had achieved whereas the house…she wanted it badly and it was still a dream. Also, somewhere thought of her non existent relationship with Maan lingered and she wanted a blanket of security. She wanted a home she could call her own. Her haven and solace, to be with her always.
In that moment she decided to sacrifice her painting to get what she wanted.
"25 Lakhs"
Arjun laughed – "Come on Geet, I am a business man as well. That is way too much. How about 10 Lakhs"
Geet's smile finally reached her eyes – "Deal"
Geet parceled "Hope" to Arjun and fortunately or unfortunately she did not have to explain to anybody as no one was home when she did that.
Next day Geet went to Naldhera telling Daadima that she had some work there. She completed the deal and a tear of joy slipped her eyes when she held the keys to her new house tightly in her fist.
A few hours before, Maan entered the airport to take an early flight back home. He had finished all his meetings and was excited to travel. As he waited for boarding his eyes fell on the "Harrods" shop. He hadn't bought any gifts but suddenly he wanted to buy one at least for Geet. He moved through the shop looking for things but not finding anything suitable. Finally his eyes fell on a negligee and he remembered how Geet had gifted her own to Meera. He blushed as he felt a little conscious but started looking at the collection. He finally chose something he felt she would like but biggest issue for him was size.
He just imagined her petite form and picked up what he wanted. He was still worried about her reaction but then he knew that now he had to take steady but bold steps towards moving this relationship forward.
Finally he relaxed comfortably in his seat as the plane took off with a new "Hope" in his heart and to be back with his wife and family.
I have fallen in love
Yes, in love with you
You, who has been my angel,
My Angel, setting my dream true.
Got my life back on track,
Realised the true fate,
Thanking the stars above over there,
For being with me through.
