My complete box office predictions for Cocktail

-Saif Ali Khan has not had any major success since LOVE AAJ KAL, which was three years ago. KURBAAN, AARAKSHAN, and even his dream project AGENT VINOD, all had a sorry fate at the box office. COCKTAIL gives Saif Ali Khan a chance to have a new lease of life, professionally.

-Similarily, Deepika Padukone has not had any Hit film since HOUSEFULL, which released 2 years ago. Films like BREAK KE BAAD, AARAKSHAN, and DESI BOYZ all under-perfomed at the box office. COCKTAIL gives her a chance to get back to her successful days.

Honestly, when I first heard about this film, I felt that there wouldn't be much of a positive buzz about the film, due to the director Homi Adajania who last directed a flick some may have not even heard of, called BEING CYRUS.However, after looking at the promos of the film, the film seems to quite similar to LOVE AAJ KAL, a film which starred Saif Ali Khan and Deepika and co-incidentally also came in summer time (summer of '09). Is the similar vibe as LOVE AAJ KAL a good thing? Yes, it is, because that film proved to be one of the biggest Hits of 2009 (although i didn't like the film)!

I strongly feel that this will be Saif Ali Khan's first box office Hit since LOVE AAJ KAL. It will also be Deepika's first box office Hit since Housefull.

Let me also say this: THIS FILM WILL PROVE TO BE A TURNING POINT IN THE CAREER OF DEEPIKA PADUKONE. By looking at the trailer, one can see that Deepika has really gotten into the skin of her character, as she displays a great amount of sexyness, which is what the role seems to require, and it is sure to make many men (including me!) become attracted towards her. This will likely be known as one of her career-best performances, because as I have mentioned, she seems to have really gotten into the skin of her character.

Now, for Box office numbers. I feel that due to the 2 Punjabi songs in the film (Angreji Beat and Second-Hand Jawaani), the film's opening will be best in the North, in places like Delhi and Punjab, at the multiplexes.

I recall reading an article from another web site that was giving the idea that this film may enter the 100 crore club. But, I feel that this film can't, because it is too much of an urban film that will appeal more towards and will be more liked by the class/multiplex/city audience, rather than the mass/single screen audience. If your film doesn't have appeal for the mass/single screen audience, it is very tough for your film to make 100 crores.

Here are my predictions:

Opening Day: 8.50 crore-9 crore range (net)

Opening weekend: 30 crores net

Lifetime: 65+ crores net

Overall Box office verdict: Hit

So, yes, in all likelihood, Saif Ali Khan can breathe a sigh of relief with this film. Although it's quite clear that he can't match up to the three baadshah Khans (Salman, SRK, Aamir), he will at least get a successful film (COCKTAIL).

And yes, the one who will likely walk away with most rewards will be Deepika Padukone, who is going to make many men drool with her sexyness and will also get appreciated for her acting, as it seems like this will be remembered as one of her career-best performances. And of course, after the Blockbuster OM SHANTI OM and Hits like HOUSEFULL and LOVE AAJ KAL, she can add COCKTAIL to her success list!

There's something incredibly simple about the Cocktail campaign. Across media, there is just one, consistent message. No major dialogue promos, no over-promising, no overdose of creatives. Wish more films followed a simpler, leaner approach.
