Part 4

Khushi smiled at her friend. He was such a jerk. He liked Nidhi but could not express it. She patted his shoulder. "Don't worry Anurag. We'll find a way for you. But you shouldn't have shouted at her."

"Khushi you know it's a five minute way to my house from hers and 45 minutes way to Arnav's but she goes every evening to Arnav's house."

Khushi couldn't help but smile. He was jealous of Arnav. "Don't worry Anurag. You need to say sorry to her."

"Yes Khushi come."

Anurag and Khushi went to the ground where Arnav was trying to speak to Nidhi but she was silent. She was sitting on the bench and he was standing trying to speak to her. As soon as Arnav saw Anurag coming, he glared at him. Khushi saw this and she knew given a chance Arnav would beat Anurag blue black. "Arnav come Vikas sir is calling you."

Arnav looked at her; he did not want to leave his best friend alone. "Tell him I'll come after 5 minutes."

"No Arnav come with me right now. "

Khushi practically dragged Arnav from there. Arnav was going to shout at Khushi but before he could Khushi placed her palm on his mouth and without taking a breath started. "I am sorry. Sir did not call you. They both want to talk. We should stay away that's why I got you here."

She removed her hand from his mouth and she noticed he was calm. "Thank you Khushi. I too know that they both should talk. It's quite complicated between them."

Khushi smiled at him, she wanted him to tell that Anurag likes Nidhi but she kept quite. She could not break her best friend's trust. "I know Arnav. It's complicated."

Arnav smiled at her. "I hope they sort it out."

"yeah. Arnav tell me one thing. What do you do in evening?"

"actually Nidhi comes to my place and sometimes we play or study together. Why? What happened?"

"oh nothing it's that I get bored in evenings and haven't really made friends in society."

"so you can come with Nidhi."

"what about Anurag?"

"I asked him to come over but he always makes excuse. "

"oh."

Khushi and Arnav kept on chatting till the time period didn't get over. Khushi was uselessly chatting. She wanted to help Anurag so she needed some information, which only Arnav could give and more importantly she wanted to divert Arnav's mind from Nidhi and Anurag problem.

"Arnav I think we both should sit together. I mean Nidhi and Anurag could sit together"

"Yeah that's perfectly alright."

Arnav was glad that the newest member of their group was so nice and thought of them. Arnav and Khushi reached the class first before anyone else could and Khushi shifted the bags. The bell rang and other students started coming in. Arnav and Khushi were sitting and their eyes were fixed at the gate. They thought Nidhi and Anurag would be coming together. But Nidhi came all alone whereas Anurag came with Kajal.

"Arnav, why did he come with Kajal? Is she his good friend?"

"Khushi she might not be his good friend but she is Nidhi's enemy."

Khushi's jaw dropped open.

Nidhi came up to her seat and saw Khushi sitting. She found her bag on Anurag's seat. Anurag stood near Kajal's desk and kept on looking at Nidhi. He knew her bag was on his bench and he hoped she would silently sit there, and he would finally tell her today. There talking session hadn't gone really well. She was not ready to speak to him. He had asked once to talk to him but she didn't and then he had gone with Kajal, leaving Nidhi. Whereas Arnav and Khushi were in class room so they didn't know that Nidhi was all alone in the ground.

Well Nidhi picked up her bag and sat at the last bench with a newcomer Akshit. Arnav and Khushi were too shocked, Arnav tried to go to Nidhi but then the mathematics teacher had come. So he sat with Khushi. Anurag was sitting with all alone on the front bench when Kajal made a excuse of visibility and sat with Anurag on the front bench.

Nidhi saw this and she immediately put her head down. Arnav kept on looking back at his friend. He truly cared for her and now he wanted to give Anurag his piece of mind.

Khushi was upset. What had she planned and what had happened.

"Arnav, what shall we do now?"

Arnav ignored her and once again looked back.

"Arnav what is so interesting at the back. Look in front and pay attention in class. And Nidhi if you want to sleep you could go to the medical room." Yelled the teacher.

"sorry ma'am" spoke Nidhi

"come on the board and do question number 7"

That's when Anurag looked back first at Arnav and Khushi and then at Nidhi. Arnav did not see Anurag but Khushi was shooting daggers at Anurag.

Nidhi walked hesitantly towards the board. First of all it was maths which was definitely not her strong point secondly she didn't know which identity was to be used. She was shaking with fear. She picked up the chalk and wrote the question on the board. She did not know what to do, Anurag and Arnav both knew her weakness but they couldn't help. And they both knew if she would not be able to do the question, the teacher will definitely take some action because she had been warning Nidhi for quite some time now.

"arr ma'am I don't know'"

"Nidhi this is the height. Go and stand outside and I'll be calling your father today."

While Kajal smirked at Nidhi, Anurag didn't look at her. Nidhi went outside.

"Ma'am may I go and drink water?" asked Arnav in the middle of the class. Teacher granted him the permission and he quickly strode outside the classroom to meet Nidhi.

"Nidhi.." he was not sure what should he say but he knew he couldn't leave her like this. Best friends never leave each other.

"Arnav" she had tears in her eyes but she was scared to let them out. This was the rule of their group; no one was allowed to cry. She managed her tears and brought her 100 watt smile back.

"Arnav go inside, ma'am will punish you too."

"are you fine?"

"I am alright. Don't worry about me."

"Sure?"

"100% now go inside."

The day at school had been the same. Nidhi sat with Akshit, Anurag with Kajal and Arnav with Khushi. Nidhi tried to remain cheerful the day long, Akshit cracked jokes to lift her mood up. Arnav was still concerned. Anurag tried to talk to Arnav but he ignored him. It was only Khushi that he could talk to.

In the lunch break, Khushi cornered Anurag and gave him a long lecture.

"Anurag I left you alone with her so that you could apologize but you ruined the situation. Now listen to me, if you don't go straight to her and say sorry, I promise I'll pull your hair and make you bald."

"Khushi I tried but she is not ready to listen."

"try harder. She is Arnav's best friend and Arnav is too upset. I cannot see my two friends being upset all because of you."

"ok, I will say sorry."

"now."

"yes madam."

Khushi took Anurag to Nidhi and Arnav. they both were sitting on the bench and sharing lunch. Anurag went towards her and snatched the lunch from her. " you got aaloo parantha and you didn't even tell me.?"

"Arnav tell him to return my lunch and go away."

"Look Nidhi I am very sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you at first place, I was worried about your and Arnav's grading. I didn't know you were upset and I didn't mean to sit with Kajal, you saw she made an excuse to sit with me. See because of you I had to tolerate her. If you hadn't gone with that newbie, I wouldn't have to sit with her."

He looked at her and she said nothing. He looked at Khushi, he wanted her to persuade Nidhi. Khushi took the hint.

"Nidhi forgive this idiot this time. Next time if he does something idiotic like this, we'll beat him together. I promise"

Nidhi smiled at Khushi and looked at Arnav for consent. Arnav too smiled at her.

"its alright Anurag. You can have aaloo parantha."

Anurag smiled at her and four of them sat together for the lunch.

"thank you Khushi, if it hadn't been you our group could have been broken." Thanked Arnav genuinely.

"what are friends for Arnav? I have a plan."

"what " shouted three of them together.

"calm down guys. Why don't we have a small party in evening? A celebration."

"awesome idea Khushi I am in." squealed Nidhi. Arnav was relaxed that she was back to her normal self. "I am also" joined in Arnav.

"well I guess I don't have any option." Said Anurag.

"ok so we'll meet in prashant vihar and then decide where to hang out.?alright?"

"perfectly."

In evening, Khushi was getting ready. she had told Payal that she would be in prashant vihar, that was not too far from there home. She had worn a light pink top with navy blue jeans, her hair left open. She first went to Anurag's home and from there they took Nidhi along with them.

The three of them reached prashant vihar and saw Arnav already waiting for them.

"so where do we go?" asked Arnav.

"what about nirula's?" suggested Nidhi.

"na ice creams later Nidhi, what about caf coffee?" spoke Arnav.

"don't you think that would be too expensive. What about momos?" spoke Khushi.

"I am with you Khushi. I got 100 rupees, Anurag and Arnav how much?"

"I have 75 right now, Arnav how much do you have?" asked Anurag.

"I have 200."

"and Khushi?"

"100."

"arey we have lots of money. Why don't we eat chilly potatoes?" spoke Nidhi.

"ok so first lets eat momos and then chilly potatoes." Suggested Arnav.

They all went to the nearby momos stall and placed he order for paneer momos.

"guys Anurag has something important to say."

Arnav and Nidhi looked curiously at Anurag.

"speak fast then we have to eat. I am hungry. We've to eat momos, then chilly potatoes and if some money is left then we'll eat pani puri and then'.." Stated Nidhi.

"Nidhi keep quiet. You talk too much and never allow me to speak. Whenever I muster up my courage to say something to you, you just don't allow me to talk. Listen I am very sorry for being so irrational in school today. But I have my own reasons. I really like you and cannot bear to see you enjoying yourself with anyone, not even Arnav, although he is like my own brother. I am not afraid to say, but I love you."

Arnav and Nidhi both were stunned. Khushi was happy for her best friend. He had finally spoken. Now she awaited nidhi's response.

Arnav was happy for Nidhi. he had known that Nidhi liked him a lot. And he knew she would say yes.

"Anurag I don't know what should I say?"

"Say yes Nidhi."

Nidhi was surprised; she did not know how to react. Her first love was confessing his love for her over a momos stall. She was really happy.

"Say yes Nidhi" repeated Khushi.

Nidhi looked at Khushi. This girl had made it happen. She knew Anurag was a person who never expressed his feelings. She was so grateful to her. Then she looked at Arnav. He had his best ever smile and she blinked her eyes asking for his permission. She wouldn't do anything to which he opposes. He was happy for his best friend. He was overwhelmed by the fact that she was asking for his permission. Like a true friend he nodded.

"Yes Anurag."

Khushi hooted in the loudest voice possible and she hugged Nidhi tightly. Arnav saw how happy his best friend was. And Khushi was the reason for this. They had only known her from last week and she had made a special place in their hearts and group. He liked the fact that she cared for them. Her action and words both showed how much she cared for them. He will always be grateful to her.

Indeed this moment will always be special for Nidhi and Anurag, but this moment was also special for Arnav because, this moment he fell head over heels in love with Khushi.
