Corruption - before we stand against it let us learn to understand and distinguish corruption.
If a constable who stands in the smoke filled cacophony that is known as Indian roads, asks you for a mamool - I say, pay it. What he earns standing there is not going to cover the medical expenses of his bronchitis. Our govt. isn't paying him enough to cover his basic needs - take care of the education of his children, cover his housing or providing him with healthcare facilities. He isn't even provided with a simple mask.
When it comes to a politician skimming off hundreds of thousands of crores - confiscate all his property and anyone related to him by blood or marriage, has worked with him in the 20 yrs prior to his being exposed.
Have a public auction of all the properties owned by these people and distribute the proceeds via transparent means to schools, hospitals, orphanages etc.
Set up free medicare and education up to post-graduate level for all citizens in his constituency for the next 20 years - to be paid by the said politician.
Have such raids in every city. In one year's time the country would be corruption free.
I dissgree and agree with you here. In India our favourite pastime is the blame game. We conveniently pass the blame on others and justify our claims. But that is not how things will be resolved.
The issue is not about providing a mask to the constable or allowing him to take a bribe. If his problem is solved by taking a bribe what about the other people who work on the same roads like street vendors, beggars (this is another issue which requires a new thread) etc.
We have an infrastructure but we do not implement them properly. We have all the rules in the book to bring the pollution in control but all that go in the bin when we hand over a 100 Rs note/notes to the cop. As he will not bother if the emission isnot under control, we are drinking and driving, going on the opp direction of one way etc.
Corruption today is no longer a crime but a part of everyday life. I remember during the times when my family was looking for a bride i stated that i don't want any dowry. but there were a couple of instances when the girl's family suspected that there was some issue with me hence i am not demanding dowry. This made me think if it is wrong not to ask dowry. the same thing happens with corruption too.
A few years back when I was bachelor (Ahhh those days🥳) I was in one my regular weekend booze party. We had a discussion on corruption. that is when I noticed an important thing when we asked a common question to all and myself.
Have I bought tickets in Black - Yes (there were times when the theatre owner used to sell tickets in black).😛
Have I bribed a constable - Yes. Numerous times😆
Have I visited a Tirupati without a special VIP darshanam : very few. while others are in queue I have one from backdoor directly in front of the lord using my connections.🤢
Have I faked my experience for a job: Yes😉😉
Do I watch pirated movies: A helleva lot. If I need to pay for all the movies and show I watch online it might cost half of India's budget😆😆😆
there are a few more like these which appear common in our day-to-day life.
Now the important issue here is not whether i have done this. It is will i continue doing this in the future. It is sadly a Yes. as it is a question o survival at times or convenience at times. AND I dont regret it.
Now the huge questions lurks in front of me saying when you support corruption so much do you have the moral right to question those who are corrupt. Finally by this time I was drunk and slept off.
Now this was my post about how corruption has been imbibed in our blood. I shall post again to discuss how to cure us of this and what steps can be taken.
