Your explanation is better than either of mine. There is only one question that remains: how did DK get to know of the amount of the challenge? He might have traced Arjun's present whereabouts by having had a detective keep track of him, which is quite natural, for he would not let his only son wander off without knowing where he had gone. But that 'tec could hardly have been a fly on the wall when Archana was going thru her operatic rage with Arjun in the Karanjkar residence. How then did DK get to know that it was Rs.10000/-?

If it was too much, Arjun may have not wanted to take it. After all, DK does know the amount of Arjun's challenge.
