Scene 16b

Anandi and shiv return home. It was 1:00 PM in the afternoon. The ladies of the house were the only members present. Everyone was sitting in the living room busy doing their work. Naina was working on her laptop. Her glasses reflecting the computer screen and books stacked up in a pile in on the table in front of her. Hansa was reading what seemed like a magazine and Shamita was busy crocheting.

Hansa noticed Anandi and Shiv. She asked them about their meeting and told them to go and freshen up. Naina had just waved her hand to acknowledge their return and continued to concentrate on her work.

Shiv smiled at his sister in law and shook his head. Naina was a college professor. Though she did not work on a constant basis due to the responsibilities of Dolly, she occasionally gave lectures. She was making lesson plans.

Anandi and Shiv left to their respective rooms to change for Lunch. They came down separately and saw that Naina had left for work. Hansa then announced that they will be having lunch soon. Neel, shiv's uncle and Hasit, Shiv's father will be doing lunch at their office. The only people who were going to eat where Anandi, Shiv, Hansa and Shamita. The house seemed empty.

Anandi, though this was just the second day at Shiv's residence, could not help but feel sad at the lack of activity in the house. She was liking the full house pandemonium. Anandi offered to help set up the table and after lunch they all retired into the family room. Anandi and Shiv started working on their next day's presentation while Hansa and shamita got back to their reading and crocheting respectively.

"Hukum, Phone" Raman Singh handed the receiver to Hansa

"Ji mai Hansa Shekar baat ker rahi hun. Ji Ikshu ki tayi ji"

Hansa's face turned pale

"Mujhe is baat ka afsos hai"

"Ji shukriya. Hum Kal aapsey milnay aa jayengay"

"kya hua ma? asked shiv seriously

"Kya hua bhabi?" Asked Shamita, worried

Hansa looked at shiv and shamita

"Ikshu ko kal disciplinary hearing ke liye jana hai. Usnay college main kisi kay saat jagda kiya hai" she said in a defeated tone.

Shiv's face turned red.

"ye sabh aapkay sar per chadanay ka nateeja hai ma. Aap hi usko'" he spat angrily, unable to continue

Shamita looked as if she were about to cry

hansa took a deep breath and started to think things through when Anandi spoke

"maaf kijiye ki main aapkay ghar kay mamlon main baat ker rahi hun, lekin meray khayal main humain pehlay Ikshuji sey puchna chahiye ki, aakhir mamla kya hai" said Anandi trying to reason.

She was looking at Shiv while speaking.

"Main ikshuji ko achi tarah sey nahi janthi lekin, mujhe nahi lagtha hai ki voh aise hi kisi kay saat maar peet karengay" She said

Just then Ikshu and Ishika had arrived from college. When they had entered into the room, Anandi noticed that they were unusually silent.

"Ishika, thum andar jaao mujhe ikshu sey kuch baat kerni hai" said Hansa with a commanding tone

"Kya hua ma? Asked Ishika. She knew from the tone of her mother's voice that something must be wrong

"Ishika, thumnay suna nahi! Andhar jao" repeated Hansa angrily

Ishika left for her room. Ikshu stood there and shiv rose to go near him when Hansa stopped him by putting her hand on his shoulders indicating that she will handle the situation.

"thumhay kuch kehna hai Ikshu" Asked Hansa seriously

Ikshu remained silent but anger was evident on his face. He avoided eye contact with Hansa.

"Bhabi kuch puch rahi hai Ikshu" said Shamita , her voice cracking

Hansa looked at shamita and eyed her to calm down

"Nahi tayiji" said Ikshu finally

"Abhi call aya tha principal ka thumharay college sey. thumnay aisa kiyun kiya?"asked Hansa

Ikshu looked at Hansa

"aapko unhonay bataya nahi' he asked angrily

"Ikshu! thundered Shiv

'Main baat ker rahi hun shiv' said Hansa commandingly

Hansa then turned towards Ikshu and said

"mujhe bas ithna pata hai ki aapnay gussay main kisi per haat utaya hai. Aue ye main bardash nahi ker sakthi, ki humaray ghar ka ladka koi gunday ki tarah bartaav karay" she said with anger reflecting in her tone

"lekin tayiji, aapko nahi pata'"said Ikshu

"No buts Ikshu" Cut in Hansa

"Jab Neel ghar per aayengay tab, thum unko sabh kuch bataogay aur us ladkay sey maafi mangogay. Kal" Said Hansa

"Main aur Maafi, aur ussey!?" shouted Ikshu

"No way" Saying this he left the room angrily and ran upstairs

'dekha ma, aap mujhe kiyun rokh rahi thi!" asked Shiv angrily

Hansa ignored Shiv and moved towards Shamita, who now was in tears. Anandi had also gone besides Shamita. She did not know how to pacify her. She then went to the kitchen and got some water for Shamita. Hansa took the glass from Anandi and offered it to shamita who then drank.

Anandi noticed that Shiv was moving to and fro with anger.

Just then, Ishika appeared in the room. She meekly walked towards Hansa

"Tayiji, ma" she said softly

"Ma please, aap meri baat suniye. Aapko puri baat ka nahi pata" Said Ishika.

She then looked at shiv and fear appeared in her eyes but the very next moment as if she had decided on something, she looked at Shamita and Hansa and said

"Ma, College main jo ladka mujhe tang kertha hai'yaad hai.. maine aapko bataya tha' she said almost whispering, trying to avoid shiv from hearing their conversation

"Tayiji, voh mujhe abh bhi tang kertha hai. Kafi hafthon sey tang ker raha tha. Usnay mera naam'

"thumhara naam?" asked Hansa

"boys restroom main likh diya tha" said Ishika, with her voice quivering and her face red with embarrassment.

How can one speak of such things in front of their mother?

Hansa and Shamita looked Shocked. Anandi felt a surge of pity for the little girl in front of her. She looked at Shiv, who had turned a shade of dark red.

Ishika continued with tears streaming through her voice

"aur aaj..

Hansa put a hand on her, gesturing to continue

"usnay mujh per haath rakha tha" said said without meeting her mother's and Tayiji's eyes

"tho thumnay kiyun nahi bataya, ishika?" asked Hansa exasperated

Ishika had started to earnestly cry

"main nahi chahthi thi ki ghar per kisi ko pata chalay. Papa ko pata chalega tho voh college rukh wa dengay" said Ishika, her voice chocking

"aur ikshu nay isiliye mara us ladkay ko?"asked shamita

"ji"

Anandi looked at shiv and noticed that his anger was now turned with concern. He had his hands on his waist and his eyes showed confusion.

"teek hai beta main thumaray papa sey baat kerhti hun. Kal dekhaingay ki kya kerna hai" said Hansa her voice filled with concern.

"Abhi jao. Main khana leker aathi hun.' Said Hansa

Ishika nodded and then without looking at shiv she left the room. Hansa looked at shiv and noticed that his eyes were on Ishika, filled with concern.

Anandi who was watching all of this felt bad for Ishika thinking about how humiliated she might have felt and a sudden urge of satisfaction came to her with the thought that Ikshu had defended his sister.

wonderful keep them comming this makes having to go to work worth it cannot wait to read the next part.

wow what a power packed scene...hope Anandi handles the situation with calm
