It's raining superhero films in Bollywood. Like its Hollywood counterparts, B-Town too is making its presence felt with its very own Krissh's, Ra.one's and others. While our versions of superheros haven't reached the level of Hollywood, we are slowly and steadily making inroads there. With a toss up between actors Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan to play the desi vampires, we spoke to a few directors to get their take on who could play the desi versions of some iconic darker heroes.
Edward Cullen
The pale-white gorgeous looking vampire from the Twilight series, Edward Cullen was made popular by hottie, Robert Pattinson. Edward is arguably the best looking vampire or should we say the most popular vampire though that has been debated upon often. If anyone can play this role in B-town, director Punit Malhotra says it definitely has to be actor Imran Khan. The light eyes and fair complexion work best in his favour says Punit. "I know Imran would definitely love to play a vampire. His chocolate boy look works to his advantage and his intense eyes will fits the persona. I think he is the best fit to play Edward," he says.
Spider-Man
The man who spins a web and traps you right into it. Yes, you guessed that right. Spider-Man is one of the most loved superheros as it's a story of an underdog. Though Tobey Maguire did a fantastic job in beginning the legacy of Spiderman films, actor Andrew Garfield too has taken to the role like a fish to water. A filmmaker explains his choice of actor to play a desi spiderman. "I guess Ranbir Kapoor is an ideal choice to play Spider-Man. He is good looking, smart with a hint of mischief. Also he's very mysterious, which is an integral quality of Spider-Man. He has to be spontaneous and is quite capable of weaving magical webs."
Batman
Regarded as one of the most stylish and intellectual superhero, Batman is an iconic character, which has been played to perfection by Holly hottie, Christian Bale. Director Christopher Nolan's third installment of the much-awaited film is up for release in a month's time and while there has been a considerable amount of curiosity about the film, this is the final part in the trilogy. A unanimous choice to play the dark, edgy character from B-town is actor Saif Ali Khan. Punit explains, "I guess Saif fits the bill perfectly. You have to be really dark, intense and extremely cool to be able to carry off the role. Saif would do complete justice to the character. He's smart, suave, intellectual and of course extremely stylish."
Jacob Black
When those long locks made way for a short crop and the body under that shirt revealed that irrestable six-pack abs, Jacob became every girl's fantasy. Overnight, actor Taylor Lautner who played Jacob Black, the feisty werewolf in the Twilight series gained as much popularity as Pattinson did. Filmmaker and adman Kunal Shivdasani explains, "I guess Arjun Rampal would fit the bill to play a werewolf. His entire personality works in his favour and I think, he'd be the best person to play the sauve looking Jacob. His swagger will work to his advantage," he says.
